Great idea - not great execution.
I love the idea of GenFair - it's like ebay for geneaologists so you know a lot of what you might need will be there. Its search function isn't perfect but, with a bit of perseverance, it's possible to find records from around the country. GenFair relies on individual heritage organisations to provide the information in the first place, so there are gaps, but that is to be expected.
My main problem with the site is the fact that the downloads don't all work properly. Some of them switch to HTML at the last second, meaning that you're left without whatever you've paid for. When I raised this with GenFair, they were nice enough but not overly helpful in the long run - ie they sent me copies of what I had already bought, but they didn't seem keen to address the issue going forward. They said they couldn't replicate the issue and suggested it was my computer/browser, but I have tried on various computers/browsers.
So, here I am, still waiting for a download I paid for yesterday and, as a working person, a lot of my family tree research is done in the evening, which means my problems are not picked up immediately by the customer service team.
Still, once GenFair has ironed out these issues and invested in their technical team, it will be a great facility.
