Do not buy a Generac standby home generator
Giving 1 star because I can’t give “0” stars. We purchased a Generac Standby home generator to cover 2 houses in October of 2021 and it stopped working after a month. It is now September 2022 and still not working. They keep replacing the same parts over and over and have even replaced the wiring harness. We now have a $22000 piece of yard art. I have an elderly parent who has durable medical equipment that needs electricity and when the power goes out, he can’t use his equipment. All we want is for Generac to stand by their products and since this is obviously a bad unit (lemon) we want them to replace it with a new one.
Poor installation, warranty avoidance, and 7+ calls just to get off a mailing list!
Generac installed a system on my mother's house. When we discovered that the gas line to the generator was leaking gas and rusting and that one of the latches was defective, we called to have these fixed (and we were actually told that the rusting gas line was "normal"). We then received a bill -- they wanted *us* to pay to fix their installation errors and defective hardware (and yes, the system was under warranty)! I had to get rather pushy on the phone before they would rescind the bill. ---- Then Generac started sending me advertisements at my address without asking my permission to add me to their mailing list. When I called the number on the mailing, I was told that they couldn't take me off the list and I'd have to call another number; annoyed, I did so, and told the operator what I wanted, but she just dumped me into a queue with a very long wait time. I called the first number and asked the woman who answered to just take down my information and pass it along, but she was adamant that she couldn't do that (even though every reputable company I've ever asked to stop mailing me junk obliges with no issue) and refused to conect me to a supervisor. I let her know that this waste of my time would be documented online, hence this review. I then called the second number a *second* time and demanded that the operator handle the issue without forcing me to wait on hold for the privilege of getting them to stop harassing me with mailings, and this time she agreed to do so. Absolutely pathetic customer service from a company that had already proven itself completely untrustworthy by botching an install and then trying not to honor its own warranty!! --- Further update: I received a call back (call #5) from the second number I'd called, informing me that *I* would have to call a *third* phone number before the mailings would stop. I called the number (call #6) and there was yet another long queue and I requested a call-back. When the call-back came, the connection quality was horrific and the call quickly dropped. I called back (call #7) and got another terrible connection, and was asked for code numbers that don't appear anywhere on the mailing (and was asked for my name and address no fewer than three separate times by the same person); and was told that the issue would have to be "escalated" and someone would call me back (which will be call #8 if it comes)... she actually thought the situation was funny and was laughing about it, which is deeply insulting. --- Update as of 9/14/22: no one ever called me back about my "escalated" case (what a surprise!), so I called again (call #8) and spoke with someone who said she'd escalate the issue to her supervisor and that either she or the supervisor would definitely call back.

Absolute junk made in China had the power cell system solar with batteries installed it has never worked correctly once Generac will do nothing to help you neither will the install company that sold it no one stands behind this product and it is garbage
Generac's system for setting up home…
Generac's system for setting up home appts for their Home Back-up systems is poor. Twice their appt failed. Many calls. They obviously have poor communications with their dlr network. Gave up. I set up appt w/ Costco.
offgridderz installation
I have had my generator for a few weeks so my review is about the company that installed it offgridderz owned by kevin dunn great experience good people Iwould recommend them
Generac customer service and follow-up…
Generac customer service and follow-up is an embarrassment. During the course of a recent home backup generator install at our home, we made a total of eleven calls to Generac to attempt to complete the install and to add my new Generac generator to the Generac Mobile link app.
Unfortunately, the Generac system was not able to recognize our generator serial number, and as such, we were required to provide pics of the generator serial number and proof of purchase (both of which we did provide). Ostensibly, the need for this verification was an error caused by our retailer, and providing the information was supposed to have solved the problem... Needless to say it did not.
Now, several weeks (and many hours on the phone with Generac customer service later), I still cannot connect my generator to the Generac Mobile link app which would allow me to control my generator remotely.
During the past few weeks, I have experienced poor communication and follow-up from Generac employees, inconsistent information, lack of professionalism, and in one instance, the customer service rep had the audacity to yell at me because she could not understand the problem and didn't know how to solve it.
As a previous Generac generator owner, while I have experienced the benefits a Generac generator can provide - much the same as their competition provides its customers - given the time wasted and frustration experienced this time around, it will likely be the last time we will purchase a Generac generator, as we just cannot afford the time and frustration involved with Generac customer service and setup.
One last thing: Prior to writing this review, I pondered whether it was worth my time to do so, but once I saw the percentage of bad Generac reviews (73% as of 8/12/22), I can only assume that Generac does not much care about their customers once the sale has been made... Too bad for Generac and their customers.
Lots of false advertisements on Generac…
Lots of false advertisements on Generac Standby generator. They say you can monitor your generator, COMPLETELY UNTRUE. All you can do is read some gooble gook, no where can you in any way mange your generator. The only difference and one that you manually manage is you get some cheap repors. You will wait months for you softwhere and when you get it, it does you no good in controlling. Buy a stand alone and save about$8-9k. By the time you pay the electrician, buy the generator, pay the gas man to hook it up and get the LP tank you have about #14k in a 24W generator.
I have absolutely ZERO faith in…
I have absolutely ZERO faith in Generac, or their generators. I work at an assisted living facility and we have a 75,000k generator. The residents pay for a working generator to run their oxygen and medical machines when we have a power outage. The generator has been repaired, worked on, discussed, repaired again, etc. It only has 57 total hours out of 4 years on it. I DO NOT trust this product AT ALL. I am finding it difficult to reach anybody in the customer service dept and frankly, the reviews of this company worry me. We ill most likely have to buy a new generator and have it installed which is approximately 60,000 dollars. All because this company has horrible products, and apparently horrible customer service.
Were is the 5 year guarantee service?
Every time it goes through a test, green goes to red. Every time we have any kind of storm, the generator goes out. Trying to get service is next to impossible. We were give a 5 year guarantee but it is useless if we cannot get it serviced. We would not purchase this product again.
Buyer Beware - Expensive Mistake
Buyer Beware - Generac Generator and Propane Tank Installation - All-In-One Propane - Leesburg and Electrix electrical Installation.
Disappointment does not begin to define my experience with Generac and Electrix! After waiting 13 months to have the propane tank and 22k generator installed and paying $15k, the system has not worked for the last three power outages. Three repairs later and they tell me it "should" work during the next power outage.
Well, today, I added the Generac app so I could monitor whether the system was working or not. They have the gall to charge $50 a year for the app to tell me whether their system is working or not!!!!!! This charge was not disclosed anywhere in discussions leading up to the purchase or installation!
Yesterday, I wrote about the new Carrier A/C system. Well, Carrier's app does everything that the Generac app does and does not charge extra.
I have asked Generac to reconsider charging for this app self-monitoring. Will advise if they respond. At this time, I do not recommend any of the companies above.
Carrier (Summa and Tonys) and Generac (All-In-One & Electrix) - Two very different experiences!
Andrew Lessman from Lena
Andrew Lessman from Lena, IL and Nate were exceptionally polite and neat & did a fantastic job installing the Generac and spent time showing us the details and answered all our questions! They also offered their services for any questions in the future & maintenance details that will be needed! I would recommend Andrew and his team to anyone!
Poor service and attitude by Spencer Johnson, and estimator
I contacted Generac to purchase a Genovac Protector Model #RGO3O ($12,497) I spoke with Spencer Johnson and estimator who was less than helpful. He 1.) Requested several surveys that were very expensive. 2.) He said I would have to do several construction changes that would cost me several thousands of dollars. 3.) Rather than work with me, he came up with several issues that would discourage me from buying the unit. 4.) He wanted a survey indicating how far my home was from a lake, and I found it on the internet, but that wasn't sufficient for him. I had to pay for a survey. 5.) I felt like Mr. Johnson was not interested in selling the unit.
6.) The customer service people are rude and inconsiderate, maybe because Genervac is "so wll fed" and doesn't give a dam regarding the public. And lastly, (7.) Spenser Johnson should find another line of work because he turns away business and focuses on why Generac can't place the unit vs. working with a potential client. Mike, M.D.
GREAT job
Frank and Mark arrived on time on date scheduled. Both men were professional and polite. They explained what they were going to do and did it. Installation was quick, neat and clean. Highly recommend this team of very knowledgeable installers.
Sincerely,
Joe & Theresa
I am basing this review on my personal…
I am basing this review on my personal experience with generac and authorized dealers. A couple of yrs ago I bought a whole house generator. I have had nothing but problems. The starter went out and the warranty was past. The dealer charged about $400 for part and time. Said if I had the extended warranty it would cover most repairs, so I bought the 10 yr extended warranty for $995 (which they back dated to original purchased date). Then the shedding module went out. I called authorized dealer who I bought the warranty thru. He said it wasn't covered. And wanted $500. I called a certified electrician who did the bypass in less than 10 minutes and only charged $50. Generac and their authorized dealers are RIP off.
worst generator ever
Had 22KW installed first time using it got so hot it blistered the paint warped the control panel I called Generac dealer this dealer had never seen the unit and said over the phone that it was improperly installed. Worst generator ever. Extremely noisy. We have had several generators over the years this was the worst ever. $8,000 blunder. Wouldn't even make a good boat anchor. Generac is a rip-off

+70% Lousy Ratings does not speak well of Generac.
STILL WAITING FOR DELIVERY Approaching 12 months since 2200Kw Whole House Generator purchase and still have not received it.
Struggling with Generac on delivery and like others have complained: They are unresponsive.
They will take your money Quick, then “kick you to the curb” when it comes to Customer Service.
I have a portable generac 15000…
I have a portable generac 15000 generator which worked fine until it stop making power. I have tried to contact the generac company for support to get my generator repaired however they have an automated system design to not help you and thier chat help does not work. I 'm concidering purchasing another generating system but will not be a generac due to thier lack of customer service and support after the sale. it is easier to get a meeting with congress than get a hold of a generac repersentative for help.
Solar Panel with battery backup systems
I purchased a complete solar panel system with battery backup for my at considerable expense. The completion of the install was done about a month ago and the system has not performed as it was described for more than 2 days since the install. I found out that Generac was KNOWINGLY sending out faulty parts used for the install. As a matter of fact, one of the faulty parts STILL being sent out for installations already has 2 updates but the company still sends out the bad parts. These parts cause certain solar panels to not work properly which means the customer is losing money every day until the part is replaced. Had I known about Generac's poor customer service, I would have NEVER purchased this system.
absolute horrible service on the back…
absolute horrible service on the back end of the sale, was missing the hardware bag for my generator, 4 weeks later still no hardware bag. They had no problem taking my money right away. I would never buy another Generac product again.
