There are many Genealogy sites out but Geneanet is about the worst I've tried. I purchased a 3 month subscription to try but immediately knew I'd made a mistake. The site is very cumbersome to operate.
Only found 260 matches
Only found 260 matches, compared to 5000 on ancestry.com. And I'm European. I need to scan every single person ... with the result that it finds someone completely different. The German website is badly translated... I can guess what they mean, but some stuff doesn't even make sense.

Scammers
Paid for a premium subscription to access what was claimed to be my own genealogy. After I paid, the document turned out to be nothing. I was redirected to a free website where the exact document could already be viewed. I contacted this and these scammers referred to the terms and conditions and that no money was returned.

I'm dubious.
Odd match with a nationality that I would not expect to match. Too good to be true kinda thing. I read the reviews, with the vast majority saying this site is a scam. I searched google images for the people in its sign up page. One photo is also at Bruce Cozart Family Law, WPCharming Theme Switcher, and Team / Michael Web Designs. Another image is at Hypershift Technologies, Black woman laughing stock photos/depositphotos, and also jollyany.co. A third is Liz Mayes - HR Manager Hollister Co from Linkedin, Kate Doe-Womens Ministry Connection, Amazon-(about bone broth! : 0) ), Blue Owl Creative, and FABEC.co.tz index of assets img team. Seems like a low budget deal.
If they are part of Ancestry, isn't there sharing of information between the sites? I belong to Ancestry already.

Many inaccuracies and un-sourced tree data. So much so that a freelance historian who does work for the BBC, who should know better, has been inspired to write and publish a book based on these unsourced results thus creating an unsourced false narrative for more peopleto be sucked in by! The names of the earliest ancestors at the top of his tree he states in his book were found on Ancestry.co.uk. I am also a member of Ancestry and these two ancestors are provided as unsourced tree hints by Geneanet. Geneanet is simply a repository of other people's possibly inaccurate and unsourced trees.

Very useful site at a reasonable price
Very useful site at a reasonable price. It is not a fully automated site which adds complete family trees. But where is the fun of that when information is incorrect. The trouble with myheritage you pay a lot of money for information which is already free available. And you have to pay to see somebody's tree. So they let you do the work and ask other people to pay for it.
Geneanet is an unreliable source of information
Since becoming an Ancestry member several years ago I have been busy building my family tree using certified records, certificates, censuses etc. I have had a DNA test and use Thru Lines to help verify my DNA matches to my cousins.
I recently discovered Geneanet had been added to Ancestry. I naively thought it would prove to be a source of useful information. Nearly every profile that I looked at today had incorrect information; either the full name was wrong, dates of death didn’t correspond with dates of birth etc. I even had one profile showing two spouses and a mismatch of children. This site needs to be removed. It represents a total antithesis of what ancestry research is all about.
Edit after reviewing Geneanet’s response: Clearly the action they say they have taken is ineffective and inadequate because if there wasn’t an existing problem I would not have posted this in the first place.

Total waste of time and effort
I am a member on Ancestry which now refers to Geneanet records. By far the majority of those I have looked at are completely inaccurate.
I have spent many, many hours tracing my family tree with records to back up the details, only to find that Geneanet gives totally different information.
Ancestry should not refer to them. Total waste of time and effort!

Oh no. Ancestry bought Geneanet!
Ancestry recently acquired Geneanet so we are now getting a whole new addition of “hints” that are poorly sourced and just plain wrong. I find some of the more current generations information fairly accurate but you often get absolute garbage when you go back to the Great Migration period (1620-1660) for New England. Accurate information for that period is available for members from the NEHGS and their website AmericanAncestors.org. I am a long time member. The cost of annual membership is far lower than what Ancestry charges and you get serious genealogy instead of junkyard genealogy.

I have been a Premium member for the past ten years and have been able to build up a set of family data of more than 100.000 names. The search engine sometimes gives weird or too many answers, but I can live with that. Most recently, I had trouble renewing my membership because three of my debit cards have been rejected, and two have been disabled as consequence. I found a bank number for making a transfer, and that one too proved to be incorrect. It is a mystery to me how they manage to survive.
Ancestry, please remove Geneanet Community Trees.
I have discovered many errors in Geneanet. The misinformation for birth, death, marriage they show can be proved incorrect with documents and headstones. The latest was for William Axley Young with a death date of 1870. He had children in early 1870's. I have a birth record for his daughter in July 1875.
Ancestry should remove Geneanet Community Trees. They are spreading more errors.

Absolutely horrid experience
Absolutely horrid experience! Was charged when I was not supposed to be and when I requested a refund I was met with a snarky response and denied a refund. When I responded and called out the rudeness and horrible service, their support doubled down with additional snarky comments. SCAM! Stay away.
It used to be good
It used to be good, but now it is rare that I can actually log in. Constant data overload is their excuse. I signed up with them a few years ago to escape Ancestry (which is really awful).

It’s appearance is that it’s a great deal, but is nothing of the sort! Cheaper than Ancestry and MyHeritage, but that’s only because they don’t give anything! 1 year subscription for $50 sounds cheap, but when you realize how non user friendly it is and that you enter everything by hand because you can’t import anything! Please do yourself a favor and save your time and money, STAY AWAY FROM GENEANET!!!

Unwanted premium subscription
I'm really disappointed about the lack of transparency in the premium subscription- don't sign up for this unless you are prepared to be charged whether you asked for a subscription or not. Do not enter your card information!!!

A really useful and inexpensive / free genealogy site.
I have to give 5 stars as much to partially balance some of the slanderous comments made below as for the excellent free info that I have found that wasn't on Ancestry or My H,
I've only used this as a free service so far, and have found some very useful info and DNA matches that weren't on other sites. The interface isn't as good as some, but better than others. But it is much easier to search other people's trees here than either of the majors.
Obviously the database is smaller than others, and this is reflected in the significantly lower subscription price.
As always, check what you are getting before subscribing, and my advice would be to enjoy all the free features and get to know the site properly before signing up and paying.

Geneanet and DNA--- first I want to…
Geneanet and DNA--- first I want to point out my opinion to all the complainers. As a genealogist spending large amounts for companies like Ancestry and MyHeritage this is by far the least expensive service to get right now online. The databank is not as large as Ancestry, but the fact that it is free to access family trees of other users is a lot more than what you get in the two major companies that are taking you to the cleaners over many years.
So, remember, nobody is forcing you to pay. I have worked with this company as long as it is online and only a few month ago I decided to pay the small amount they are asking to look at some of the stuff that they have now available. Geneanet is a service more used in Europe which is often a benefit to Americans/Canadians, because it is less expensive paying for using their data base than making a trip overseas.
I am giving you the four stars for the way you have operated over the years, improved the website and have used the advise of your members to improve.
However, if it comes to DNA I have to take down all the stars. But...... it is a free service and I have learned that you never complain if you get something free. You work with it and make the best out of what you get.
DNA improvement is needed!!
Uploaded DNA is analyses totally out of numbers.
I don't even want to go into details, except that I had not one DNA match that was a match. Compared on Gedmatch showed a match, but so low that even myself working with lower matches are not able to find something useful.
Perhaps if geneanet explains how the match system works, we could find a connection.
Right now, my DNA and that of my husband have a fair amount of matches, but not even the matches in the green come out as real matches.
I am sure you will be working on it and I am also sure in time it will work out fine for your company. I will still keep my DNA up and take a look at the names on a regular base.
The four stars are for past performance, staying free for your tree uploads and usage of the system, being able to freely contact people by e-mail and now to let us upload our DNA for free even if that needs major improvement. Keep up the good work.

Empty Promises
This is a genealogical data base with very sparse data. They don't have enough data to justify their prices. It is more scant than many free sites. And my spam went from a few per week to hundreds per week. It may be happenstance, but I personally wonder. Save your $ for a real genealogical data site.
