fantastic site for Learning overall!

Teaching is top-notch, with experienced people.
Seriously they are really good!
And the teachers are so likeable and really know what they do! Thanks to Mr.Grant Abbitt and others, i learned a lot of 3d work from him. Without discovering them, I'd be having a hard time finding certain tutorials on the internet and YouTube.
Appreciate what you people do.

Outdated courses and misleading pricing

I’ve taken several courses on GameDev.tv, and the experience was mixed. Some courses are well-structured, with clear examples and solid explanations — especially the foundational ones.

However, others felt like repackaged older material with outdated content. Be cautious when buying course bundles — they often include 1–2 outdated courses alongside the good ones.

One more thing worth mentioning is their questionable pricing strategy. A course might be listed as $195 but permanently sold for $15. These discounts have been ongoing for months, which feels like a fake discount tactic rather than a genuine promotion. It gives the illusion of value, but in reality, that’s the course’s regular price.

Hi Serhii,

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review - we really appreciate your kind words about our foundational courses and your honest feedback overall.

You're right that a few of our older courses are still included in some bundles. Many students still find them helpful, but we agree it's important to be transparent. That’s why we clearly label engine versions on each course page, and our teaching assistants are there to help if you're using a newer version.

That said, we’re actively remastering many of our bigger courses - right now, we’re updating our Unreal C++ Developer, Unreal Blueprints, and Complete Unity 2D courses (for the fourth time!). And when we release these remasters, existing students get access to the new versions for free - no need to repurchase.

As for pricing - we hear you. The strikethrough prices reflect the original retail price on platforms like Udemy, but we run frequent deep discounts to make learning affordable. We understand this can feel misleading, and it’s something we’re always trying to improve.

Thanks again for the feedback - it helps us get better. If you ever have specific concerns or want help choosing the right courses for your goals, drop us a line at support@GameDev.tv - we're always happy to help.

in 2025 they still use unity 2018

in 2025 they still use unity 2018. this is so disappointing. for one the screens are completely different. But most importantly 2018-2025 is 7 years of inovation what is not being thought in their courses now.
Never going to to gamedev.tv again. Only reason for two stars instead of one. this old stuff is cheap.

Hi Asje,

Thanks for your feedback — we’re sorry to hear you were disappointed.

To clarify: we regularly update and remaster our major courses and provide free upgrades to students. When a course uses an older engine version, we make it clear on the course page before you enroll, and our team is here to help if you're using a newer version.

While engines change fast, the core skills of game development stay consistent, and that’s what we focus on teaching.

Also, we offer a 30-day no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. If you'd like help with a refund or have questions, email us anytime at support@GameDev.tv.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review.

Great experience

I bought and have done the Unreal Engine 5: Build a Complete Survival Game with Blueprint by Gorka (Who does amazing youtube tutorials also) and it was very informative and made me understand why things work like they do. The TA was a bit lacking but the lecturer was great

Appreciate the honest note about the TA support too — that’s helpful feedback and something we’ll look into. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, and happy dev’ing!

Hey,

Thanks for your feedback — we’re sorry to hear you didn’t get the support you were expecting.

Just to clarify: while our Discord is a community space where students hang out and talk about games and development, course support happens directly on the GameDev.tv site. Each course has dedicated teaching assistants who answer questions under the specific lectures, so they know exactly where you're stuck and can give better help.

Fantastic Courses For Game Development!

The teachers are great, Rick being my favourite so far. Very knowledgeable and funny to boot! One complaint I have is with the instructor Stephen Hubbard, he blasts through the material extremely quickly so I have to rewind a lot but he knows his stuff and is otherwise a good teacher. Maybe just slow the video down to 0.75 or 0.5 speed. But I highly recommend the courses, they have done wonders for my Game Dev journey so far!

Hi there,

Thanks so much for the great review — we're thrilled to hear you're enjoying the courses and that Rick (and his jokes!) are helping on your game dev journey!

We also appreciate the feedback about Stephen’s pacing. It’s true that sometimes different instructors have different teaching styles, and adjusting the playback speed is a great tip. We'll keep this in mind as we continue improving.

Thanks again for recommending us — and happy dev’ing!

I took C++ intro into Raylib course and it's basically just a tutorial of few odds and bits regarding Raylib. After taking this course one should not expect to be able to start new project from scratch. They don't even tell how to compile the project, wonder if they even know how to do it. (Debug and run is not compiling, dear gamedev.tv it's debugging!!!)

Hi Ged,

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’re sorry to hear the course didn’t fully meet your expectations, and we appreciate the chance to clarify a few things!

First, regarding compilation: The “Build Debug” task does create an executable file, which can be found in the project folder. However, VS Code’s default settings filter it from view, so you may need to navigate directly to the folder in File Explorer to find it.

If you're looking to create a release build, there’s also a “Build Release” task available. We hope this helps to put your mind at rest that we do know how to compile projects for both debugging and release purposes and we're sorry it wasn't clearer in the course. We're looking into this.

As for the course itself, the main focus is on C++ fundamentals within the context of game development, with Raylib serving as a tool to help illustrate key concepts. If you're looking for a deeper dive into Raylib specifically, we completely understand that this course might not cover everything you're hoping for.

We named the course 'C++ Fundamentals: Learn Game Programming For Beginners' to help make this clear. But if there's any other ways you think we can make it clearer please let us know and we'd be happy to consider them.

We always appreciate feedback, and we’ll take your thoughts into consideration as we continue improving our courses.

If there’s anything specific we can help clarify, feel free to reach out—we’d love to assist further!

Hi there,

Thanks for your feedback — we really appreciate you sharing your concerns.

Just to clarify: while we sometimes use AI-assisted tools to help inspire ideas for marketing thumbnails, all of our course images are created by real human artists. And of course, everything in our courses — the teaching, content, and support — is 100% human-led.

We’re proud to support indie devs and always aim to be thoughtful about how we use technology. If you’d like to chat more or have suggestions, feel free to reach out to us at support@GameDev.tv — we’re always listening.

Content, Community, and Staff +++

I have been a user and fan of GDTV for several years now. Their courses have always been great, but beyond that, their team is fantastic! I'm now a lifetime member because I trust in their content and in the support of the team.

In addition to all of that, as an indie game dev, their community is fantastic. If for nothing else, hopping in to be a part of such a great environment is well worth it.

Entirely unprofessional

Edit: After leaving my review, the situation was rectified within 2 days, and I was offered a free course on the site.

I'm changing my rating from 1 star to 3 stars, as while they did address my issue, customers shouldn't have to complain about a company publicly to receive a response to a simple request.

---

Their courses are okay, but their customer service has been honestly one of the worst experiences I've ever had to deal with.

It all started when I wanted to take them up on an offer they made on their Udemy courses, this being that you can have your courses transfered from Udemy to their own website.
When I first emailed them, they took (an already fairly long) 4 days to respond and asked me for my Udemy receipts, which I provided them with shortly after.

At this point it has been over a week since I did so, and their support simply doesn't respond to either the email containing the receipts, or to the follow up email I sent a few days ago.

Initially I wanted to buy one of the courses directly from their site once this migration process had been completed, but after this experience, I honestly lost all interest in buying any of their courses in the future.

New reply - Hi Dominik, thanks for taking the time to update your review. I've managed to track down the issue with migration requests which led to delayed response to your original messages and have implemented a new system with our support team to help ensure this doesn't happen again. Hopefully your future experiences on our site will win you over and you'll have nothing but a 5 star experience going forward :)

Original reply - I'm so sorry to hear you've had this experience. We go to great efforts to ensure our students are never stuck, either on the course or the course taking experience. Sometime we have a slight delay with Udemy coupons, but you should be told if this is the case. I have contacted you directly, while I further investigate with the team what happened here.

clear, easy to folow, affordable

I've been with GameDev.tv for many years and took many online courses by them. In the space of on-line education they are very unique. There are people/companies that can teach, but not that many places that build a thriving community around that. IMO that's the biggest value here. Of course, the courses are great too! And being constantly updated, which is added benefit (e.g., I bought first version of Blender, Unity, Unreal courses many years ago, and they are still relevant as they were updated a few times - both streamlining the teaching, but also updating to more recent versions).

Good videos, good support, good price

They have consistently good videos with excellent support, and pretty good pricing. Like almost every program out there, the prices are a little bit inflated, with them frequently being offered in bundles or at discount, but that's just the nature of the business.
