How a vets should act

Had the unhappy experience to take our dog there on a Saturday evening so knew the cost would be high. First vets we had to been to that didn’t ‘suggest’ more testing(over £6k by then ). Had to euthanise that evening but they could not have been more supportive. Even posted paw and nose prints back to our home. They can be proud of themselves

Puffed up pup!

I can't thank the Duns practice enough for their service, and the care given to my dog, last Friday, who decided it would be an adventure to chomp on some bees!!
He reacted badly, obviously, and was looking like a bobblehead cartoon character. I was in a sheer state of panic, as initially, I wasn't sure of the cause, and an adder bite was in the back of my mind as the worse case scenario!! After a very worrying weekend, I'm pleased to say my dog is recognisable again, and not the sad, miserable pup that he was on Friday, Saturday and Sunday! It was horrible to see him in such discomfort! So thank you to all at Duns Galedin, specially Caitlyn, and Alison for their quick actions and reassurance. We are very grateful.

DO NOT RECOMMEND …

Had used Robert Young independent vet in Kelso but he retired and sold out to Vetpartners who own all the Galedin practices. My cat Tommy became unwell late Saturday on 16 March 2023. I had to use Galedin OOH in Galashiels. I travelled almost an hour to get there. I saw Linda, a locum vet who barely had anything to say. Without fully examining him, she said euthanasia. I was always told euthanasia at the Galedin vets in Berwick uponTweed whenever I took one of my pets in. Yet, I would get a second opinion and my pets were healed.
As for Tommy, this vet without any explanation , started to inject 20-30ml of saline solution in to him. He lifted his head and screamed in pain. I was sobbing because the vet just stood there. He really should have been admitted in to the hospital and thoroughly investigated and get treatment . The vet said my cat should be euthanised or she would report me to the RSPCA( with my loft, I already worked with the RSPCA). She said , loud enough for me to hear, "damn Yank". I was appalled.
On the Monday, because the window of opportunity to immediately treat his ailments had gone, I had no choice but to get him euthanised. I made a complaint to Galedin vet in Berwick and received a letter from them saying I was banned from the practice because I complained. I asked to come in to speak to Galedin in Berwick Practise Manager. They found excuses not to talk to me. I contacted Vetpartners. They said they have no choice but to support their vets. I complained to RCVS. They said there was nothing they could do.I had spoken to their solicitor and nothing. I called Vetpartners H.O One woman I spoke to was actually sympathetic but admitted her hands were tied. I had an appalling experience with Galedin. I finally have found an independent vet in Alnwick who puts pets first before money. Talking about money, I refused to pay for that OOH visit with their vet. I would have been glad to go to court and bring it all out in the open, As it was, Galedin left it. Berwick is large enough to support a second vet, an independent one. As it is, Galedin has a free licence to treat people as myself with utter contempt because they know they are the only vet.
