Shady Billing Practices

Although I was a satisfied customer for many years regarding the general performance of the Excel Micro Fusemail product, support had fallen off. However, the real problems began when we decided to cancel the subscription after deciding to move to cloud-based email processing that included spam filtering.

Excel Micro has a policy that states "changes and cancellations must occur at least 30-days prior to the date of the latest invoice". We had already converted all but one domain when the notification of a new Excel Micro invoice arrived. It took about 3 minutes to convert the last domain, and reach out to Excel Micro to process the cancellation. Surprise-Surprise. The invoice notification was just a few days before the due date, and because it is an annual subscription, Excel Micro refused the cancellation request. We are now FORCED to pay for another full year of service that we won't use. A complaint has been filed with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) because they are working to remove these sneaky business practices.

We even offered to pay for a month (annual billing divided by 12 mos) to give them a 30-day buffer and they refused! Entities who behave in this manner do NOT deserve our business, and there are other, better choices available for the services Excel Micro offers. Best to AVOID, and if already a subscriber, pay attention to what we experienced.

Pros:
Fairly efficient email spam processing, Admin console relatively easy to add to blacklist and whitelist.

Cons:
Sometimes tricky (or incompatible) setup regarding connection settings on some servers. False positives had increased. Processing speed was sometimes an issue. Worsening customer support. Shady, and borderline unethical billing practices.
