FromVineyardsDirect is the brainchild of David Campbell, a publisher, and Esme Johnstone, a founder of Majestic Wine. We offer a deliberately small, highly selective range of delicious drinking wines, principally from France, Italy and Spain, straight from the vineyard. We import direct from the growers and deliver to your door at the click of a mouse, at prices well below traditional merchants.

Don’t rely on delivery

They have been good in the past. However we ordered a case for an anniversary event for which they offered ‘next day delivery’. This then changed to ‘delivery within 1-3 working days’. It eventually arrived nine days later after we had to chase, missing the anniversary. We were made throughout to feel as if we were the problem. No meaningful apology.

Fantastic customer service

Wonderful customer service (as well as price) - were able to quickly correct mistakes on the online form and even retrospectively applied a discount I was entitled to. Highly recommend and wish all companies were this good and responsive!

Avoid this company

Used to be a great company but they went into administration and were purchased by Johnny Wheeler. This enabled Esme Johnson and David Campbell(founders) to save face by pretending they had merged with Mr Wheeler Wines. The reality is they went into administration and Mr Wheeler purchased the company through an asset purchase taking the name, two founders, any stock and most of the customers over. Anyone who was a creditor, which included loyal customer due En-Primeur wines, were left in the cold. There was some attempt to get some of the wines to customers and I received some of it but by no means all. Clearly money paid in good faith for them had not been protected and had been used to keep the struggling business afloat. Paypal insurance covered a bit but I am till due over £1000 of en primeur wines. Recent attempts to get an answer from them have been ignored and obviously the administrators dont care about the smaller creditors. I am particularly annoyed because their website claimed that all en-primeur purchases were insured and they were not, a blatant lie on their part. If you look at the current website the same claim is made with the same wording and you can be sure that any en-primeur you order will not be covered. I thought they were good guys and a great little niche company but when it came to the crunch they were quite happy to shaft their best customers. Go elsewhere, especially if buying en-primeur.

Spectator Wine Club hassle

Spectator Wine Club hassle - a case publicised by the wine club and to be fulfilled by FromVineyardsDirect was ordered and payment was taken the same day 23 February. A case of wine (with substitutions!!) finally arrrived today 21 March after my chasing both The Spectator and the company. What a hassle - poor form for The Spectator to be associated with this and failing to provide a direct way for customers to provide feedback. FromVineyardsDirect made the excuse that they had run out of some of the wines. So, why at that point was I not informed and offered a refund? I suppose 5 out of 6 is better than a further shambles and I shall never know if the wine reviewer Jonathan Ray's enthusiastic opinion about the original rose is justified but I am unlikely to be taking it seriously, anyway.
