Could be so much better

A good service overall but with some seriously flawed company policies and customer service issues.

One recent example was that I wasn't able to purchase products from a certain Mercari seller due to them "not meeting our quality standards", despite the fact that the seller already had a 5 star review.

When I asked for further info, it turns out they block purchases from any seller who doesn't have a certain number of reviews already.

This is a ridiculous policy if the buyer is happy to take the risk and not expect a refund if something should go wrong. But there's no room for common sense when talking to their customer service agents. It's just robotic responses like "sorry the system won't allow it".

They also make it impossible to speak with anyone higher up at the company. So if you have an issue with a particular agent then you just have to grin & bear it.

I had been using FromJapan for a couple…

I had been using FromJapan for a couple of years now and can tell you that this is one of the best proxy service. Their customer service is fast and very articulate, always get my issue resolved. I once had a package damaged on arrival and they even help with partial refund to offset this. Also I believe it's the only proxy and allows me to ship domestically within Japan, which for the what is going on with the shipping and tariff right now, and since I go to Japan often anyway this is a big plus.

FJ gives you bunches of promotion and coupons (plenty of coupons and signup bonus if you search online), very happy with the service.

Honest review from a loyal customer

I'll list some of the issues I have come across over the years:

Over the course of time I have lost plenty of auctions, even though my bid was higher than the other. Their system seems to have a lot of issues like this - it is quite risky for auctions that you really want to win.

They have changed things without communicating anything. An important shipping feature was just suddenly removed from their site without so much as a notice. This created a lot of problems for me personally.

On some occasions I have needed their customer support, but they seem quite incompetent. They have made mistakes which have cost me a lot of extra money.
At one point I had request a photo of an item in my warehouse (you have to do that through support), but I never did end up getting it, even though I paid for it.

Their domestic shipping seems quite high. I believe they always pick the "insured" option even when it is more expensive than even the item itself, which means you are basically paying for that "buyer protection" scheme yourself. Speaking of this buyer protection, it is kind of pointless, since it doesn't apply to anything but "new" items. And even then they will do their very best to NOT help you and find any way to get out of it (such as any mention of the word "junk" in the item listing).

The item dimensions don't always make sense. Sometimes when you consolidate things you end up with 2 parcels, even though the items in both parcels would easily fit in one. You cannot see anything of what is in the warehouse other than what item it is, there are no photos, no dimensions or weight information about it. You can try to ask support, but they don't seem to know either. It's like the warehouse staff and the customer support is completely separate or something.

What made me post this review was kind of the last drop:
Recently due to the war in Iran JP post had temporarily suspended shipping.
Many of my items in the warehouse were near the end of the storage period and I was literally already in the process of shipping them through JP post.
Their support/warehouse staff was simply too slow to get it done in time.
Other shipment methods that are still available now cost 5 times as much for me, which is nearly more than the value of the items themselves.

After reaching out to the customer support about this they wouldn't do anything for me. They wouldn't even prolong the storage period by a few weeks, whilst always giving the same corporate answers with their "sincere apologies".

If they cannot even show some humanity in emergency situations like this that were partly their own fault, then really what kind of company is this?!

Processing times may vary depending on the season, but if we are unable to provide the requested photo, the fee will always be refunded. Regarding domestic shipping, we usually select the most affordable shipping method. However, there may be exceptions if the product price is high.

As for shipping methods to Europe, Japan Post services were temporarily suspended at the request of the Japan Post itself, but they have now resumed. Therefore, you should be able to use them again to ship your items.

I have used FromJapan for over 10…

I have used FromJapan for over 10 years, but truly Buyee is a superior proxy service for several reasons. FJ has seemingly random and poorly implemented rules and restrictions that will cause you to lose a bidding opportunity at last minute. A seller will suddenly, 'not meet requirements' or your bidding ability will be frozen in last minutes, and several sellers that 'do not allow bids from proxy services' are totally fine with Buyee. Also, the packaging for FJ is absurdly excessive. They seriously need a better range of boxes to fit items. If I purchase 3 paper thin 10x14 prints, they must package them in a massive meter wide / 20 cm high box that is always flagged by customs and is often crunched in shipping. Their auction times do not count down without refresh and there is no notification that your wishlist item is soon up for auction. The company responds with the excuse that they carefully select which sellers they deem are safe, but it comes across as a glitch in the software because the same seller will be OK in a few hours after you have missed the bidding on an option. It is painful to wait a week to bid on a rare item, then loose the opportunity to own it due to haphazard restrictions that come and go.

Amazing service

Amazing service, very fast. Never had any problems with it. The packaging also is neat and they offer the cheapest shipping methods to my country that most proxies don’t even offer. I can get all the goods I’ve wanted from Japan now! I’ve been using this proxy for almost three years now and will continue to use it

Terrible

Terrible, terrible customer service.

If you are frauded into purchasing counterfeits, they will refuse to issue a refund unless the seller (the scammer) approves - which is preposterous because scammers do not voluntarily cancel the transaction.. that’s why they are scammers - or you pay 30 % of the item price as a cancellation fee. I had about 30 emails to and fro with them, and they finally offered to waive the cancellation fee if I agree to the condition that I will never request refunds in the future, for cases outside their plan. (Not to mention the inattention to details, like getting the website’s name wrong, and not thoroughly checking my emails and attachments, but I won’t go deep into that)

I refused, and was thinking about disputing this case to the authorities, when about a week later they just issued a full refund. They never apologized for their behavior.

Under the laws of multiple nations, you have a legal right to cancel your contract if you have been frauded. You do not need to agree to proxy service’s offers which limit your fundamental rights as a customer. The whole experience was devastating.

I would not recommend this proxy, because according my experience, if you have been frauded, they will fight you, the victim of crime, not the scammer.

FROM JAPAN operates as a proxy purchasing service, which means we purchase items from third-party sellers on behalf of our customers. Because of this structure, cancellations and refunds sometimes depend on the seller’s approval, and in certain cases cancellation fees may apply. These conditions are based on the service terms agreed to at the time of use.

In this particular case, the seller initially strongly refused the cancellation request and even used inappropriate language toward our staff. However, our Customer Service and purchasing teams did their best to assist you and strongly escalated the matter to the marketplace operator. As a result of these efforts, we are glad that the operator ultimately issued a full refund.

We would also like to note that there are many counterfeit Pokémon cards circulating in the market, especially on flea-market platforms. Even items listed at market price may unfortunately be counterfeit. For this reason, we recommend checking the seller’s ratings carefully before purchasing. Purchasing from more reputable stores or sellers, or using our optional photo service before shipment, may also help reduce potential risks.

As a proxy purchasing service, there are certain aspects we cannot fully guarantee; however, when issues arise during a transaction, we always strive to do everything we can to assist our customers.

Responsible Proxies

All shipments that I've received have always been packed safely and came in a timely manner. The most recent purchase of mine was more expensive, had to be held by customs for a while longer than anticipated. Support guided me on what to do and ensure the package would be safe - they would check again on the case afterwards and provided even more help. No real way to accelerate what customs is doing, but it all helped in making sure everything would go naturally. Real glad it worked out in the end.

Great care for delicate electronics

Just wanted to take a moment to express gratitude towards FromJapan/OneMap for their outstanding packaging standards and service. I have been using this proxy service since 2020; things like LaserDisc players, VCRs, and other vintage electronics with moving mechanical parts have always arrived well-protected, usually double-boxed and/or isolated with styrofoam corner pieces from top to bottom. I have had many rare and collectible pieces arrive safe and sound because of their thoroughness, and so I just wanted to say thank you!

Good shipping, okay storage

My items were packaged great and had no damage from shipping. The shipping was also fast and efficient. One of the packages did arrive tampered with and incomplete, but I believe this is the fault of the seller, not the proxy service.
