Supermarine Spitfire MJ627 (ex WWII combat a/c) flight.
I have just had a Flight in a Supermarine Spitfire MJ627 from Cotswold Airport over Gloucestershire and down the Severn estuary. A memorable day. The pilot, Jon, and all the staff & volunteers at FlyaSpitfire.com were hugely professional and friendly. A wonderful experience with friends and FaS staff. Thank you all.
Simply stunning Spitfire and chase plane experience
Simply stunning Spitfire and chase plane experience and great hospitality. Extravagant? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.
From the moment we arrived, the entire team at Fly a Spitfire were welcoming and determined to make it a day to remember. They totally succeeded. The highlight - the flight of course. I had one of the longer flights to Beachy Head which gave time to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy an element of taking the controls and see the southern coast. The chase plane was expensive but allowed the other 4 members of my party to participate and take great pictures so well worth it.
On landing there was no pressure to move on, so easy to take it all in, and have photos in and around the plane.
Finally the guided tour of the restoration hangers was unrushed, intimate, interesting and informed.
Barry, Christian and the guy who took us round the hanger - all get special mention.
If you get the chance to fly in a Spitfire - take it!
I have been flying for over 30 years and have waited all this time to get the chance to say I have flown in a Spitfire - Sitting in the cockpit of a WWII Spitfire isn’t just a ride; it’s a kind of time travel. There’s no comparison to commercial flying; this was raw, mechanical poetry.
As the aircraft taxied out, my eyes were fixed on the elliptical wings stretching out beside me.
I was given the controls a few minutes after take off - At first, it felt almost absurd. But the instant my hands settled on the stick, the Spitfire responded with a sensitivity that was almost alive. I wasn’t just along for the ride anymore; I was part of it. The controls were light yet precise. It wasn’t difficult—it was intuitive, exhilarating, and strangely emotional. For a brief moment, I understood why pilots spoke of these machines with such reverence.
If you ever get the chance to fly in a Spitfire—take it. And if they offer you the controls, don’t hesitate. It’s not just flying. It’s something far rarer.

Five stars seems inadequate for the experience you receive from flyaspitfire.com. The staff were fantastic, so welcoming and friendly. The flight was exhilarating, luckily I had perfect weather and seeing the Kent countryside flow by looking over the iconic Spitfire wing will stay with me forever. Cannot recommend this enough.
What an Experience!?
It was a pleasure to deal with a company that demonstrated exceptional efficiency from start to finish. My wife made this booking as a gift for my 70th birthday and every detail was considered. Every member of staff from the original booking to post-flight was exemplary.
I appreciate that this was a significant expenditure but the attention to detail of all involved enhanced the experience. The flight itself was remarkable, particularly for someone who was once a PPL and who has a passion for vintage aircraft. The weather was also perfect and we performed several victory rolls over Beachy Head. It was a memorable day. Thank you.

I went to the spitfire technical tour on 19th February 2026 for my Christmas. I really enjoyed the technical and hanger tour especially when a spitfire engine was started up outside which was the highlight of the tour. The team were friendly, informative and gave great knowledge. A light, warm clean and tidy work shop. It was a pleasure to be surround by all the things I love.
I would highly recommend going on the tour. Not one to miss.
What an incredible day
What an incredible day! My wonderful family surprised me with this fantastic gift, and the experience was truly astonishing. The Fly a Spitfire team at Biggin Hill exceeded all expectations, from the initial booking process to fielding questions, providing pre-flight details, and the event itself. Amanda, our gracious host, went above and beyond to ensure my family and friends felt fully involved in the occasion. The ground crew was equally fantastic, assisting with getting settled into the Spitfire and helping capture tons of photos for everyone, including a fantastic group shot—thank you all! My pilot, Andy Monk, was exceptional, thoroughly explaining the flight stages before takeoff and offering me the chance to control the plane and even do a couple of barrel rolls. The flight was extraordinary, with the thrill of declaring I have control and executing three consecutive barrel rolls over Beachy Head. The excitement is still coursing through me, and if experiencing this is on your bucket list, I wholeheartedly recommend going for it!
Incredible experience
Incredible experience, real bucket list stuff!! All staff fantastic and friendly and the whole day was simply amazing!

An Unforgettable Experience Flying the Iconic Spitfire MJ627
Today I had the privilege of flying the legendary Spitfire MJ627 from Blackbushe Airfield with the incredible team at Fly a Spitfire, and what an experience it was.
As a private pilot, I had long dreamed of taking the controls of one of the most iconic aircraft ever built, but nothing could have prepared me for just how extraordinary the day would be. From start to finish, the entire team were professional, welcoming, and passionate about what they do.
Samantha (Sam), who looked after me on the ground, was exceptional, friendly, meticulous, and utterly dedicated to ensuring every detail went perfectly. She left nothing to chance, and her enthusiasm added to the excitement of the day.
My flight commander, Richard Verrall, was equally outstanding. A consummate professional and true gentleman, his briefing was clear, engaging, and full of fascinating insight. His calm, supportive manner gave me complete confidence as we took to the skies.
And then, the Spitfire itself. To take the controls of such an iconic machine is almost beyond description, the power, the grace, the sheer history in its wings. Flying it was both humbling and exhilarating in equal measure. A couple of victory rolls and high-wing turns later, I was left absolutely speechless.
It was, quite simply, one of the greatest privileges and most unforgettable experiences of my flying life. For anyone with even the slightest interest in aviation, Fly a Spitfire is an absolute must. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Thanks guys, simply awesome.
What an experience
What an experience! Flew out of Swansea Airport on 28/09/25 for a 55 minute adventure along the South Wales coast and back over the Brecon Beacons. My pilot Barry was tremendous and gave me a quick flying lesson with a “you have control” command over the Heads of the Valleys. Experiencing this tremendous aircraft in the very capable hands of Barry was a delight, the Victory Roll being the highlight for me! I cannot praise the ground crew enough either as their welcome made me feel very special. My thanks to Dave and his colleagues for their support and for their detailed and valued briefings. My guests were also well looked after and whereby they said afterwards that I was a very lucky boy to have flown in this wonderful aircraft, I also reminded them that I felt very privileged to have had the opportunity to do so. Here’s to the next time…🤞
A fabulous day
A fabulous day
I can’t thank the team at Biggin Hill enough, every aspect from booking, the welcome,my experience on the flight and my guests in the chase plane was first class.
Even the weather played along!
Fantastic visit to workshop and museum with enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide to finish off the day.
Thanks again to the whole team

A wonderful experience
A wonderful experience. My expectations were high but the actual event exceeded my expectations. The Chase plane allowed 5 others to share in the fun and everyone said how much they enjoyed themselves. I even flew the Spitfire for a while which was the thrill of a lifetime. Many thanks to Barry and the rest of the team on the day who were all very friendly and helpful and made sure everyone was included in the experience. The factory tour was
also fascinating. Thank you again. Robert
Amazing experience
Amazing experience, flight crew and ground staff are all really great. Thoroughly enjoyable day
Best day ever
From start to finish the experience was efficient, very friendly and well thought out. I had the time of my life, an unforgettable experience, and would recommend it to everyone. The joy of flying in a Spitfire was overwhelming. I must sing the praises of Barry the pilot and the wonderful engineer who helped me so much in the cockpit, thank you so much.
An unforgettable experience
An extraordinary experience that truly exceeded my expectations. I flew from Cotswold Airport and enjoyed an incredibly friendly and welcoming reception from Keith and Dave. My pilot was Charlie and I couldn't have asked for better. He was extremely relaxed and engaging which made me feel totally at ease right from the start. Flying over the Severn and amongst the clouds in this iconic and extremely special aircraft was out of this world, but the friendliness of all three towards me and my family made it an unforgettable experience for us all. We've already enjoyed the video footage, which brings it all back straightaway.
Flew the Spitfire at Norwich Airport
Flew the Spitfire at Norwich Airport. Pilot and ground crew were excellent. Thanks also to everyone back at Biggin Hill. Highly recommended.
What a brilliant day!!
What a brilliant day!!
My lovely family surprised me with this amazing gift and what an unbelievable experience!
The team at Fly a Spitfire (Biggin Hill) were outstanding, from the initial booking, to answering questions and providing pre-flight information to the day itself.
Amanda was so kind and attentive as our host and made sure that my family and friends really felt a part of the whole event.
The ground crew were great too, so helpful with getting settled in the Spitfire and afterwards, ensuring family and friends got loads of pictures and did a brilliant group photo, thank you guys!
Andy Monk my pilot was absolutely brilliant, he explained the key stages of the flight prior to take off and asked if I would like to take the controls at some point in the flight and also if I was happy for him to do a barrel roll or two!
The flight itself was unbelievable with the highlights being able to actually say "I have control" and then three successive barrel rolls over Beachy Head!
I am still buzzing about the experience and will be for a long time and I can only say if it's on your "bucket list", just go for it!
An absolutely wonderful team of people…
An absolutely wonderful team of people supporting the experience of a lifetime for my father who was a tiny tot looking up at the Spitfires saving England during the Second World War. Averil, Barry, David, and Flo were so genuinely caring about making the day so memorable for him. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Absolutely amazing experience
Absolutely amazing experience. I booked this for my dad (79 years young). He had a fantastic experience. The staff were really helpful, kind and nothing was too much effort for them. The instruction and briefing he received beforehand was second to none. Highly recommended.
One Awesome Experience..Dream come True!
This experience, and what an experience it was , was recently purchased as a surprise birthday present for my nephew. We arrived at the centre on 20th July 2025. This event took place at BLACKPOOL AIRPORT.
It was really simple to arrange online and so well worth every single penny that was spent. No value could be put on the smile my nephew had all day.
On arriving, we were greeted by two volunteers in the gift shop.
We entered the hall which was adorned with planes and artefacts. All the extremely knowledgeable volunteers were amazing. So knowledgeable. There was a small cafe area in the theme of the 40’s attended by volunteer Rob who had so many tales to tell , so helpful and made one superb cup of tea!
We chatted to a lady in the display ‘control room ‘ ( sorry no name) who again was so friendly and knowledgeable and pointed us in the direction of the VR ‘bombing raid’, which we walked past and nearly missed. So be careful not too. This was incredible and a must to see and do.
My nephew was then taken to have a ‘run through’ and receive his ‘ flying suit ‘ attire.
Whilst we chatted again to more volunteers, Stephen Garrity, on the VR equipment. Again so knowledgeable. On our way to the viewing area more volunteers I.e. all the Steves chatted to us with tales and information. The flight was ready to take off after my nephew was expertly advised and set up with instructions.
During the flight, Rob came to us and set up the flight tracker on my phone to follow the flight path. Amazing. We were treated to photos been taken from Steve G which was a real surprise.and to which we are indebted too. The flight covered an immense area , more than we thought including aileron rolls.
This beautiful piece of engineering landed and the flight was beyond belief. My nephew’s dream became a reality, and only possible with the help by ALL the volunteers on this 20th of July. After the flight and the debrief , my nephew received the memory cards from the front and rear cameras on the spitfire , recordings of the whole event. So amazing to watch.
No words will ever or can be enough to express our deepest gratitude to all who worked so hard and were totally dedicated to their roles . We were treated as ‘ royality’ for the whole of the day. It was one truly wonderful adventure.
If you are considering this flight experience, then do it! Just to have this memory to hold , the video to watch, the photos to look back on, and enjoyment shared with the volunteers. It’s just one remarkable day in your chapter of life.
