Professional booking process, disappointing execution
I was initially very impressed with FlatRate’s professionalism. The quoting process was seamless and transparent — each time I updated my inventory, the price adjusted automatically through their app. Everything about the planning phase felt organized, high-end, and trustworthy.
Unfortunately, the day of the move told a different story. A plain, unbranded truck arrived with three young movers who appeared to be working this gig on the side. They were unaware that the destination was a fifth-floor walk-up — something I had clearly communicated from the start. They struggled, understandably, with the stairs and the heavy lifting.
What really concerned me was learning that FlatRate had outsourced the move entirely. The movers mentioned being paid just $80 each ($240), while I had been charged $750. Whether or not that figure was exaggerated, it was clear they were not FlatRate employees. Nowhere in the process had it been disclosed that the job would be subcontracted — had I known, I could’ve gone with a "man with a van" service directly and likely paid significantly less.
This lack of transparency felt misleading, if not outright deceptive. FlatRate presents itself as a premium, full-service mover — but on moving day, it delivered something very different.

WORST MOVE OF MY LIFE
WORST MOVE OF MY LIFE! The movers asked for a bribe, they broke so many things, and dumped our stuff everywhere. They also have horrible customer service, avoid at all costs.

A special shout out to Yusuf and Dees.
Our two movers Yusuf and Dees were absolutely fantastic. Very nice and helpful guys who arrived when they said they would. This was an international move from the south coast of England, to NY then onto Indiana into a storage unit. Nothing broken and everything intact.

Flat Rate Moving is great - definitely recommend
Flat Rate Moving are terrific. This was second move for me with Flat Rate Moving after my first previous positive experience with FRM. The team from sales, to dispatch, to the moving crew were all highly professional, courteous, punctual and responsive at all times. Kudos to Devante R and his moving crew and to Carlos in dispatch. Highly recommend. Would definitely use FRM again.

This was my sixth move in ten years and Flat Rate was unbelievably amazing. From talking to Adam and the three men who did the actual move could not have been more efficient and helpful. No one I’ve used in the past can compare. I would highly recommend them.

Worst moving company ever
Worst moving company ever. Avoid them if you don’t want your belongings to get lost. Or stay for a very long time in a storage unit and never get delivered. Also if you’re able to get someone on the phone they’re gonna say that it’s not their fault that is somebody’s else’s fault. Conclusion don’t hire that company they are the worst.
Customer Service Issues
Requested a quote on 2/27 and sent a second request a few days later. Nobody ever reached out to me on a quote. Company does not seem to be concerned with customer service.

THIS COMPANY WILL LOSE YOUR ITEMS
THIS COMPANY WILL LOSE YOUR ITEMS, DAMAGE AND SEND ANYONE FROM CRAIGSLIST... BE VERY CAREFUL!!!
If I could rate this company -5 i would. This company moved us from Brooklyn to St Louis and it was a complete disaster. Be very careful these guys have absolutely no idea. They lost a huge expensive floor rug, like it never showed up, no apology nothing. Also an antique mirror was missing too. They broke a number of glass items, sent us movers here in St Louis who where chosen from Craigslist, not referenced, these guys made us feel uncomfortable asking us questions about ho much this this item would cost, how much we purchased pur home for, to tip them directly cash and not through FlatRate as they take too much commission and tried to make us call management to release their pay as they wanted to leave without un packing. It was a complete NIGHTMARE. They damaged our walls, we immediately sent images and they accept no responsibility and insult us with $200. The rug alone was over $1500.00 We were asked to lodge a claim and this is what we received:
Claim No: FRNY #1281150
Dear Thomas,
Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience that you may have experienced with your recent move. I have enclosed copies of your Move Plan.
The results of the claim are as follows:
Rug: 50 lbs
Mirror: 10 lbs
Glass Dome: 25 lbs
Lamp: 25 lbs
Total:
110 lbs
At $0.60 per pound at 110 lbs, your total claim value equals $66.00. Additionally, we are including a courtesy amount of $134.00 for property damage which occurred during the move. Accordingly, enclosed please find a check in the amount of $200.00 serving as a full and final settlement for claim #1281150 filed on 1/17/25.
