Life threatening medical/administrative incompetence

For the first two months, First Point Launceston, TAS, was great, helping me, in a new city, to access critical drugs I have a decade of history taking.

The doctor I saw was great, but said he was 'going on leave and leaving the practice soon.' However, he assured me that when I needed new scripts, it 'would be organised so any doctor at the practice could prescribe S8s, S5, and S4.'

I finally felt some calm and solace knowing this doctor cared so much and appreciated the critical importance of the continuation of these meds. You are constantly warned ad nauseam 'not to stop taking these meds abruptly'—it can be fatal. Yet, since my original review (which the owner just replied to), my rating of 5 stars has reduced to 1 star—it seems zero is not an option.

Yet, via email, First Point stated they had 'closed my file' and that I was 'no longer their patient and not welcome.'

The letter below is dishonest, misleading and in stark contrast to best practice. The letter 'the doctor was leaving and that I knew I was responsible for finding a doctor elsewhere' and closed by 'wishing me luck in my medical future' and advising me 'to avoid further correspondence unless in writing.' I did this, and was ignored.

This matter now sits with AHPRA and forces the engagement of legal professionals. First Point's actions skyrocketed my anxiety and ADD to the point of forced self-questioning of the inevitable.

This was the letter from the manager, proud of their
illegal actions and their third-world level of maladministration:

Mr XXX
Dear XXX
This letter is to inform you that, First Point Healthcare will no longer be able to provide your ongoing medical care at this practice.
This decision has been made after careful consideration. We believe it is in your best interests to arrange your future medical care with another general practice that can better meet your ongoing healthcare needs.
As previously informed, Dr Aruna advised you to seek an alternative GP. To assist you during this transition, Dr Aruna has kindly provided prescriptions on 16 June 2026, which were intended to supply your medication for approximately one month while you arrange ongoing care with a new GP.
Your medical record at First Point Healthcare has now been inactivated. Upon receipt of a written request from your new medical practice, including their contact details and your signed consent, we will promptly provide a copy of your medical records to facilitate continuity of your care.
We encourage you to arrange ongoing care with another GP as soon as possible to avoid any interruption to your medical treatment.
We wish you all the best with your future healthcare.
Yours Sincerely,
Rishitha Redamalla
Practice Manager
