Possible Customer Data Leak / Email Address Exposed
I want to warn other customers about a potential data protection issue.
I use my own domain with a catch-all email setup, which allows me to use a different, unique email address for every online shop and service. This means I can clearly identify which company a specific email address was originally provided to.
The email address I used for this shop was used exclusively for this company. It was never used for any other website, online store, platform, or service and was not published publicly.
I have now started receiving fraudulent spam/scam emails at this unique address.
Because this address was only ever provided in connection with this shop, I am concerned that the email address may have been exposed either through the company itself or through one of its service providers, processors, or other third parties.
So far, I have not received any notification from the company about a security incident or data breach.
I have contacted the company directly and formally requested clarification, including whether my personal data may have been affected and which third parties had access to or processed the email address.
At this stage, I am not claiming that a data breach by the company has been proven. However, due to the way I use unique email addresses for each individual service, I consider this situation concerning enough to inform other customers.
I will update this review once the company has responded and provided further clarification.
I would recommend that other customers keep an eye out for unusual spam or phishing messages sent to the email address they used with this shop.
