I originally got a decline on my claim because 2 kids were sick last minute and could not go. With sickness and weather, this is the reason I purchased the insurance for our large group as things would come up. Christie - one of the representatives took over the case and was able to get my appeal approved and I was able to get a refund on the 2 tickets, which was the outcome I wanted. Appreciated the follow up and dedication from Christie. Thank you.

Really easy, fast, and no arduous documentation requirements. Last thing I needed after knee surgery was having a headache trying to cancel running races

My name is misspelled, which creates further delays

The coverage details (what is covered; what is required) were not easy to find, but submitting a claim was very easy.

I applied for my refund and it was paid the very next day! I attached a medical certificate confirming I was unable to start the race so there were no further questions or forms etc to complete.

I submitted my claim yesterday with required documentation. Not long after I received notice the refund was approved. Shortly after that I received information on how to transfer refund to my bank account and this morning it was deposited. Very quick response and great communication.

I was a little nervous with the event being only a couple days away but the process was very efficient. I will definitely use this service again

The website for returns is hassle free unlike other refund sites which require unrealistic documentation to obtain a refund

Reply from FanShield
The process and website worked well and received timely feedback. Would definitely use FanShield again.
Two areas for improvement
1) I could not track down the FanShield email in my Inbox. The event description was too vague (i.e. "8-MILE"). I was searching for "Uwharrie" "Mountain race", etc. and not finding the FanShield policy I purchased. The RunSignup page and the event page had no information at all about folks that signed up with FanShield. I got lucky by emailing the event coordinators and they responded several hours later that "You did purchase event insurance". More useful event information in the Fanshield email and more useful information with RunSignup would be a big help.
2) Trying to use the FanShield site to file a claim using my Google Pixel Chrome browser did not work. I tried to attach documents only to watch the "Uploading" message for a few minutes and gave up. Filing the claim on my laptop with Chrome worked perfectly. Please either improve the mobile experience or strongly suggest to file the claim on a PC.

If less stars were possible, I would assign this a zero. I purchased tickets and my oldest child (17) was too sick to go. Since we had to travel a couple of hours, I decided to take the other kids to the event and felt ok since I had purchased insurance. When I requested a refund, I was unable to get it since I had to have a doctor's note. If I had done that, the rest of us would have missed the event and not gotten refunds since we were perfectly healthy.
To see the T&C, you have to request an email, follow two links, and then you can see what a scam this is.
Edit: don’t believe this AI written auto response, they’re grifters and have no intentions of helping or doing the right thing.
Edit 2: So they want you, regardless of how sick you are, to obtain a doctor's note. This "insurance" is designed in such a way that they don't actually want you to be able to use it.

We purchased tickets in advance and paid extra for the optional ticket protection because the policy indicated illness would be covered. When my wife came down with the flu and couldn’t attend, I filed a claim — only to be told afterward that a doctor’s note or PCR test is required. That requirement was not made clear at checkout. Most people with the flu don’t go to the doctor unless symptoms are severe, which makes the coverage far less useful than it appears when you buy it.
On top of that, the day we attended was extremely disorganized. Misleading to say the least!
Between the confusing insurance terms and the operational issues that day, the experience did not match expectations. I would not purchase the protection plan again and hope both companies improve transparency and customer handling.

After purchasing tickets I had to have my gallbladder taken out and can’t make the concert. I was unable to resell tickets and sooooo stressed about the money, I am so relieved that this was covered and refunded

Reply from FanShield
They truly stand by the added protection. I was involved in a rear end collision 2 days before the concert. I submitted my paperwork and was approved quickly and received my refund in a timely manor. I would add this protection every time. Its worth it.

They did everything as promised and did it quickly.

We booked a hotel for an out of town sporting event in June of 2025 through hotelplanner.com and purchased the protection plan because the event date in October was close to our Daughter's pregnancy due date. Her water broke the day before our scheduled stay so we couldn't attend the event. We called the booking company immediately and they confirmed that the request for coverage was valid but we had to call fanshield to get the protection claim filed.
When you call fanshield, the auto attendant doesn't allow you to talk to anybody. Furthermore, it directs you to their website or directs you to send an email to help through their website fanshield.com. Email was sent requesting a list of what was needed to file a claim. They sent an email back with a link to go step by step as well as a link to get a refund on the they amount I paid just for the coverage. They didn’t provide a list of what was needed to file a claim successfully. The link takes you through requestmyrefund.com and the step by step doesn’t contain a list of specific items needed to support your claim. “Just upload your supporting documentation” which is what? I’m now dealing with three websites to file a claim, as well as a company called Protecht, Inc that services this company’s refund program.
I filed the documentation and received an email back saying that I needed to provide them with a birth certificate. I sent the birth certificate which took over a month to get. I then received an email back saying they needed additional information after the previous email saying they just needed a birth certificate. They said I needed to provide a copy of a doctor’s exam showing that my daughter gave birth which is a HIPPA Law issue. After I questioned this request, they then sent another email saying the claim is denied because my daughter gave birth on the 16th and the trip with the hotel stay was on the 17th. Total disregard for the fact that the baby was born at 10pm and the hotel stay was an 8 hour drive away and she didn’t get to go home from the hospital for 3 days. This is where I stopped.
It’s now clear to me that this company has no intention of ever paying out a claim. They can’t provide a list of what’s needed, they don’t provide any forms to be filed out by a doctor even though their refund terms say their refund representative will provide the “forms to be used in filing proof of a refund request”, and you can’t talk to anybody over the phone. This group of companies appear to be in concert with each other to scam people out of their money through deception and delays. Please avoid them at all cost. Again, it’s hotelplanner.com, fansheild.com, requestmyrefund.com and Protecht, Inc that services this company’s refund program that seem to be working together to scam people out of their money.

The person I spoke to was courteous and professional but I know now that when I book a hotel in the future I will definitely go straight through that hotel chain! It was a little bit of a hassle getting reimbursed because at first they said they couldn’t reimburse just because Nashville was predicting a major storm! However I was going to Nashvupilke for step mothers memorial service and the family made the decision to cancel it because they had 35 out of statevpeople that were planning on attending! I’m from Michigan and Delta airline even sent me an email stating I could receive credit for a future flight or a full reimbursement on my flight due to the storm coming in over the weekend! Which I thought was so incredibly nice if Delta! But overall my experience was good and once they approved my refund I received it in my bank account the next day! Very quick turn around! Thank you it was appreciated!!!

The support team was very patient with me in guiding me through the necessary paperwork. Once I got it all in, my refund was quickly approved.
