Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people expressed significant dissatisfaction with the company's subscription model, finding the new pricing structure and limited access to content to be a major downgrade. Customers felt the value for money had drastically decreased, with many stating that the cost was no longer justified for the limited number of titles available. The user experience was also negatively impacted, as many found it difficult to access desired books and felt the platform was more focused on upselling than providing value. Some people, however, found the service to be a good value and an excellent experience, particularly for those with dyslexia who benefited from the audiobook options. A few customers also appreciated the initial free trial period.

It's really unfortunate

It's really unfortunate. I absolutely loved everand and scribd but since they have changed their pricing model which now limits access to books, I no longer see the value in paying the same price for far less benefits. It seems a though they adopted a similar model to Audible. I'm highly disappointed

Hi there, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. I completely understand how disappointing it is to see something you’ve cherished transform, especially when Everand provided a unique experience that you enjoyed so much.

Our decision to change the system was not made lightly. We’ve heard from many in our community about the need for more transparency and a broader selection of bestselling and new release titles. While the previous model allowed extensive access, it often came with hidden limitations, like sudden content unavailability or access throttling, which we know caused frustration. The new unlock system aims to provide more control and predictability, so you can select the books you want without those unexpected restrictions.

With Everand, we’re committed to offering competitive pricing while delivering great value. Subscriptions start at just $11.99 USD/month for access to 1 premium title, compared to similar services that often begin at $14.95 USD. Our Plus plan, at $16.99 USD for 3 premium titles per month, provides even more value compared to other platforms, which typically charge $22.95 USD for only 2 titles. Additionally, any titles you unlock remain accessible for the duration of your subscription, and if you ever need to cancel, they’ll still be there if you decide to rejoin with the same email. This means you’ll never lose your favorite reads or listens if you return.

We’re also excited to be expanding our catalog to include over 150K new titles, in addition to the unlimited content, so there’s even more to explore and enjoy. We recognize this is a significant shift and may feel like a step away from what made Everand special. We’re incredibly grateful for the time you’ve spent discovering hidden gems on Everand, and we’re truly sorry if the new system doesn’t align with your needs.

Your feedback is invaluable, and we’re committed to evolving based on what our community shares. If you’d like to discuss further or share additional thoughts, please respond to this message and I’m happy to share this feedback with our internal team.

Thank you for being part of the Everand community. Please let me know if I can assist with anything else!

Nearly ALL books are premium now - even OLD ones!

I used to have a subscription to Everand and, having tried Amazon Unlimited and not finding decent books to read, I returned, only to find the whole system has changed!
I don't listen to audiobooks but I enjoyed the fact that I could download a book and, if I didn't get on with it, I could "return" it and get another - not any longer!
Although they say they have a vast amount of books in the unlimited category, there are none that are worth reading and none in the historical fiction category that I enjoy, and yet "old" books written by authors no longer with us, are classed as premium titles - why???
It's now a nightmare to find anything worth reading, since the filter only allows me to look at a certain genre of books - romance, thrillers, autobiographies and sci-fi/fantasy, and not necessarily books I, personally, would be interested in.
I used my "unlock" for this month on a book I no longer want to read and now have to wait until next month to find another - how stupid!!
I will be cancelling my subscription, which is a great shame because I love the access to Scribd content.

I wanted to read the book Les Ames Grises and I got an interpretation or review of the book. I had subscribed to one book a month. When I tried to cancel, less than 30 minutes later, I immediately got a bill for $21.00. In and out in less than one wasted hour. Bad.

Everand's advertising is deceptive

Everand's advertising is deceptive. When on their website, many varied and known authored books appear on a search. But as a member, when I search with the name of a book, I get non-relevant titles and a limited range of results, while titles I want are hidden behind a 'not available now' wall. It is apparent that I no longer get value from their product. It's like going to a buffet and being told that the grilled salmon is not available until you leave and come back again with another entrance fee. It's preposterous! It's better I buy a title on kindle or audible, at least it's mine for life and it does not appear and disappear. Thier model is not going to be sustainable in the long term. They have totally deviated from the value proposition I saw 6 years ago. They normally respond with some blah blah blah about fair use but I don't get access to even my saved books. They do not give what they promise and in that way appear very deceitful to me.

Adequate selection, glitchy app, abysmal customer service.

I responded to an ad offering a 30 day trial to Everand. While I appreciate the pricing and am comfortable with the (albeit weird) business model, the glitchy app, lack of online listening options, and nonresponsive customer service had me cancelling the service before my 30 days were even up. I accidentally picked up the ebook version of an audiobook I wanted, so I grabbed the audiobook and shot the team an inquiry. Aside from an automated response, I never heard anything back. Listening was okay...when the app worked, but I couldn't figure out how (or if it's even allowed) to listen on my computer, which was frustrating. Once I'd finished that title, rather than running the risk of being billed for an underwhelming service with poor customer support, I cancelled. I listen to enough audiobooks while traveling that I'd definitely try the service again if they made the app more reliable and bothered to handle customer service inquiries, but until then I'll just stick with the other options out there.

Everand is now dead

Use to love Scribd and Everand for the ability to try lots of titles in a single month, unlike Audible. Since Everand moved to their rip off new pricing model, I cancelled. They have ruined their business model and unique selling point over Audible and it is very poor value. And, unlike Audible they don't even let you keep any books after pausing your subscription.

Not worth it

Not worth it, unless you're a fan of bait-and-switch services. As soon as I signed up for the 30 day free trial every book in my saved list became unavailable until the end of the month--conveniently when I would start being charged. They also lock your account after they've decided you've read too many books--in my case just one---which, no offense to anyone, but it doesn't take me a month to read a 300 page book...? And shouldn't readers be allowed to go back and forth between multiple books, especially if they're doing research or just enjoying a flip-through? As for customer service? Just an endless loop of automated responses so good luck with that. Save your money and stick to the Internet Archive's huge and free library for now, as most of these subscription services are little more than attractive scams these days.

This is no longer worth the (or any) money. Maybe 2-3 dollars a month, but that's it. I suspect they are going to go out of business with these changes because it is not worth what they are charging. It's like they don't understand their customers. I gave it a try, but after having the service for years, I'm going to be canceling. Way to scam your customers.

Went From Great to a Complete Scam

I used to love this service back when it was Scribd. The subscription gave you unlimited access to books, and even the free trial was decent — you could actually explore and read like a normal person.

Now? It’s a total scam.

Everand gives you a “free trial” that only lets you unlock ONE book. And guess what? If you cancel — even though it’s a FREE trial — they take that one book away. So you basically get nothing.

But it gets worse. Even paid subscribers now only get one unlock at a time. I tried reading a book series, got hooked on book #1, then suddenly the rest of the series is “unavailable until your subscription renews.” So unless you want to wait a month between every book, you're out of luck.

This company went from offering real value to tricking users with locked content and fake trial offers. It’s frustrating, it’s misleading, and it’s honestly insulting to long-time users who remember how good it used to be.

Don’t waste your time or your money. This isn’t a reading service anymore — it’s a pay-to-unlock scam.

I really loved the old Everand

I really loved the old Everand. I had a legacy subscription and was told I needed to upgrade in order to “unlock” titles. I did. Now the titles I was previously reading/ listening to are locked! I only get a certain amount of unlocks a month so I either spend them on new titles or the ones I was ALREADY reading. If I had know I would lose nearly my whole saved library I would never had switched. The kicker is I had to spend more money to upgrade. Terrible way to treat loyal customers.

I've been a customer for years but have now cancelled forever. The new subscription system frankly sucks making Audible Plus a much better option. There is a much higher quality of content on Audible and it is now far better value. I bet Amazon are rubbing their hands together in glee since Everand have effectively removed themselves from the marketplace.

Everand used to be grand

Everand used to be grand. When I switched to the new plan, I was shocked to discover that the 100's of books I have save but have not read were locked! I had understood that new releases and top sellers would be locked not nearly everything in the catalogue now matter how old or retread. What a scam. They took away the best part of being a member and turned the app into Audible light. At least, with Audible, you keep your books even if your membership lapses. And you can buy additional books on sale. I am going back to Audible when my membership at Everand expires. They are not honest.

New pricing structure is a joke

I've used this company for years and it's been excellent value for money despite glitches and a disappointing user interface in the app. However, their new pricing model is an absolute joke. They now want £10.99 a month to read or listen to one book. They try to make out that this is a 'simplification' of their pricing structure, which apparently people found 'confusing' before, but seriously, there was nothing at all confusing about being able to read or listen to as many books as you liked from their whole catalogue! What is confusing is why anyone would want to pay this amount of money for one book when there are far cheaper services out there with a better user experience.

I made the choice for 1 star because zero, and negative numbers are not an option. The application will frequently re-lock titles. You will not receive any support. My most recent issue is the new iPad. The application is now telling me there are too many devices for the book to be saved on. I was listening to it this morning. So, be careful if you have personal and work phones, or get an additional tablet. And if you travel, make sure you take everything with you so you can listen to the book you downloaded years ago.

Furious, dishonest company

Furious. I am a legacy customer, going back to the good ole days of Scribd. Functionality is now ZERO. The company is no longer to be trusted. When I open the app I am fed random "recommendations" of the latest crap they are apparently being paid to push. I don't want recommendations, I want to read the books I search for...but guess what??!! half the time I can't find them (even books I have read before). When I do find a book... one I searched for...it is inevitably "not yet available" because the app has decided that all I get is 1-2? books per month??!! I read a book every few days! Yeah, there are books there for free: those self-published, bad-to-mediocre life improvement books that all have the same sounding title and are written by bots. Or even worse Abridged versions of books apparently created with AI---who wants an abridged version, do they seriously think people won't notice the difference. OMG!!! And this horrid new scam of a business model was just implemented without notifying the customer. No warning, no option to opt out of a yearly subscription (which I have). I have cancelled and I will NEVER go back and NEVER recommend. Thank god for the library.

And now an answer? Ha! First of all: my problem is with EVERAND...which used to be Scribd. The company forced me to switch to Everand when they suddenly just became Everand: but we were promised nothing would change.

Go and open up a customer ticket??!! What, invest more useless time in your horrible new business model? I cancelled. Just give me the money for the remaining portion of the year I paid for...because the services I paid for are no longer available. I can no longer access the books I want to read. EVERYTHING, literally everything is "not yet available". What a horrid, dystopian joke.

HORRIBLE

They not only changed the rules and allow you to read ONLY 1 book with standard subscription and 3 with “Premium” one, but when I cancelled my subscription beforehand, even though I still had free trial for another 20 days or so, I couldn’t even use the 2 out of my 3 unlocks. In general, I wouldn’t recommend, it’s super expensive for what you get. They’ve become absolutely horrendous and disappointing. Won’t be coming back.

When it was Scrib it was absolutely wonderful. Now I can’t even play an audiobook longer than 15 minutes and it goes to buffering. I can be right next to my connection and it’s still buffers.
