My unfortunate tale with this company started a whole 24 hours ago. I have to say this is probably up there with one of the worst companies I have ever encountered. And that 24 hours feels exceptionally long…..
It started when I was coming back from a late night swim. Went to lock the door behind me, oh it doesn’t lock. Key is busted. Does the spare key work also no.
I am astutely aware as we have another insurance claim going for a flood and were told by the insurance company that the house must be locked on the 5 leaver lock at all times. So we ring home emergency. Home emergency were great and helpful, said someone would be out as it needs to lock. Gets put through to evander, and this is where the games begin.
For context we have a yale, slam shut lock that’s not lockable, a listed Georgian front door, and a 5 leaver lock. Due to the fact we live in an area with a significant amount of burglaries, everyone with the same kind of door as us also a door which can be locked namely the 5 leaver lock that esure stipulates, and as I said we are insured against it.
Anyway after 2 hours someone comes out and says there is a bolt on the back so it’s secure. Well yes when I’m inside…. And it’s got a Yale, yes it does. And the other lock which the engineer has deemed broken. Anyway, states he can’t fix the 5 leaver as they don’t carry them…. Right. Don’t worry, he can fix the Yale. Which is not actually broken just a mishmash of parts as the builder changed it. Anyway, this engineer then starts chiselling out the listed Georgian door frame to fix a Yale lock which is indeed not broken. Right. So now this lock doesn’t properly fit. But says someone will be out tomorrow to fix the broken lock…. Fine.
Call back at 10am. No they are not coming as apparently the Yale lock is now suitable for Evander as it’s secure. Explained that they said last night someone would come out in the morning and the insurance is on the 5 leaver. So they agree to send someone out.
6 hours later, an engineer comes out. You could tell there was trouble by the swagger and body language he displayed. And fortunately what happened next is fully on the ring doorbell, and now on our home emergency complaints team desk.
States he will replace the lock, then goes to his van states he doesn’t have the part so it’s not covered as if he had the part it would be covered. I said I do not understand. And which point he starts shouting at me for not understanding and stated the door is secure as it’s a door. On firmly saying I do not understand, and his attitude was completely unacceptable to me as a lone young people. He says he will speak to his manager. To which point he stands outside swearing his face off. Rings someone and then tells me to sign something as it’s against the law if I don’t and my insurance will be in touch.
Upon this I ring the evander. Get passed through to someone who asked what’s the issue, and got told to provide the address. At which point they read the claim details and it say I was irate and irritated and angry….. anyway this customer service advisor didn’t let me say anything whatsoever. Said she was interested in my side of the story, but never let me say anything. And then said I was ‘incompetent’ and incapable of reading. I stated my home emergency policy says it will make the home secure up to £500. And I said my insurance stipulate the 5 leaver lock. And she said I was an ‘idiot’ and was conflating 2 things together. I said it doesn’t say. And then who knows what she was saying and she was quite frankly just shouting……
So my take on it is. Only use evander if you wish to be sworn at, called incompetent, and wish to be disrespected.
Oh and to add to this, the lock that they’fixed’ that wasn’t broken. Is now broken. So now as the door will not now shut in the slightest we are now waiting on a private locksmith, which has been approved to send the bill to home emergency.
What a jolly 24 hours that was. And did I make it to work today no.

Excellent service in every manner
Apart from taking a long time to getting the replacement done -6 weeks
It was Christmas time
Good craftmanship. Friendy work force. Job done in good time and left it clean.
We had a wait a bit longer than I would have liked for our new patio door but the process was smooth. Timescales were given and all done respectfully and mess free.
The glass and new handle were fitted. But now the window frame is very stiff? Somethings not right.
And the key won't open it either now.
Not happy.
