great experience from booking the…
great experience from booking the vehicle to landing at the airport and there was a van waiting outside, literally 2 minutes drive to the office, took some details paid deposit
upgraded me to a even better car
did the checks with taking pictures and videos and off we went
on return was like not even 5 minutes they checked over the car I.hopped on to their van and I was in airport within few minutes
great office staff and good experience definitely recommended
Avoid at all costs
Avoid at all costs! Appalling customer service. We rented a car from the airport at 5AM to only find out when we arrived to our hotel that we were given a car with a flat tyre due to a dodgy repair! Customer service never returned my call and then I spent the rest of the afternoon in call waiting where they never responded my calls! The day after I called twice to file a complaint and the representatives hang up on me both times! I thought Europcar was a legit company but it is definitely the worst!
Don' t do it
Don' t do it. The worst car rental experience in Athens. Not cooperable, not flexible, not friendly to the costumer. There are many much better alternatives in Athens.
A €1,300 balance still outstanding
Booked a Dacia Jogger Estate through EasyJet with full insurance premium for the very good price of £98.10 plus £49.02 for insurance. Once at the pickup desk for Europcar at Athens Airport I was told I would need to take out their insurance for an additional €180. I was about to walk away when I was told that if I paid an additional €49 fee I did not need to pay the €180. At that point I should have walked away. I did not. I was then told that as I did not have a Credit Card I would have to transfer €1,300.00 into Europcar’s account which would be related to me when I returned the car. I foolishly, did this. I returned the car on Wednesday. The €1,300.00 still has not been paid back into my account.
Exploitative non-refundable policy
Incredibly rude and combative behaviour from the moment I approached the desk. Our flight was delayed by 2 hours, as a result we were late to the desk by 2 hours and a few minutes.
They had cancelled our booking and I was down £150. They weren't interested in anything else once they confirmed everything was non-refundable. I couldn't even organise an alternative booking.
Lovely start to a midnight arrival in a foreign country.
worst company to rent a car from
worst company to rent a car from. stay away. they charged me 200 euros for a damage i did not cause!
lazy people
i had this rezervation :
GR853278290 . i never sow such a lazy workers as europcar. after almost 1 month i did not get my depozit!!
Booking number 1192429038
Booking number 1192429038. We rented a Fiat 500 for a week. One day our car stopped running. We were on the beach 50 km from the hotel. It was impossible to reach technical support or the helpline. No one answered. It was evening, the beach was deserted, and we had to leave the car there and take a taxi to the hotel. In the morning, we continued calling Europcar. They said, "We'll call you back," but no one called back. It turned out they'd gotten phone number mixed up. It took us four hours of calls and negotiations before a specialist came to inspect our car. He told us the battery is very-very old. It was dead and we needed to go to the service center and buy a new one myself! And we had to do it. We paid 85 euros. When we returned the car, my husband handed over all the receipts to the Europcar office and filed a claim asking for a refund for the battery and taxi costs. Zero results. Almost two months have passed, and Europcar still hasn't resolved the issue or refunded the money. A ruined vacation and lost money—that's the price of renting a car with Europcar in Greece, and in Athens in particular. As much as I love Greece and the Greeks, Europcar in Greece is clearly the most customer-unfriendly and careless Greek company. We wouldn't recommend it to anyone!
Booked but let down.
We booked to use but sadly left stranded. Fight was delayed, and on arrival, they were nowhere to be seen. Customer care agent the following morning was rude, arrogant, and simply could not care less…. She said you did not show up, we deleted your reservation as a no show!
Complaining to HQ Greece fell on deaf ears… defensive d dismissive.
We were left paying an expensive taxi and wasted our morning after trying to find alternatives.
Very poor service!
Utter Nightmare
Oh darling readers, buckle up, because my thrilling holiday began not with sun, sangria, or relaxation, but with a €50 ransom note from the good people at Europcar, facilitated by my new frenemies over at GotRentalCars.com (a name which, in hindsight, feels less like a website and more like a cry for help).
Picture the scene: it’s late at night, I’m tired, glamorous, possibly glowing from Duty Free aftershave, and the man behind the desk says, “That’ll be €50 extra to release the car.” To release it, as though the car is being held hostage in a dark underground car park, whispering, “Help me, Chris, you’re my only hope.”
I paid, obviously, because unless I fancied sleeping in the glovebox of my own disappointment, I had no choice.
Cut to eight weeks later: I’ve spoken to GotRentalCars (who insist it’s Europcar’s fault) and Europcar (who say it’s GotRentalCars’ problem), and frankly I feel like the €50 is now being used as a shuttlecock in the world’s most boring game of corporate badminton.
So yes, still €50 down, still carless, and still absolutely livid.
If I wanted to pay extra to be ignored, I’d get back with my ex.
Exploitative system
Exploitative system, not customer service.
After booking through ADAC with my flight number entered, Europcar still marked me as a no-show - even though I arrived the same evening and the office was open. Stuck with no options, I was forced to rent the exact same car again at walk-up price (€842) just to continue my trip.
Later, during the new rental, I had to replace a defective windshield wiper myself to drive safely in the rain. Every issue - from the missed booking to the wipers - was met with the same line: "You have to email corporate." Nobody at the counter ever takes responsibility; everything gets pushed to head office until you give up.
They rely on one thing: that you won’t start your holiday by arguing over a few hundred euros.
Avoid.
DO NOT BOOK
DO NOT BOOK - ITS A SCAM.
Europcar is not in the airport like all the other rental car agencies. They are also not allowed to put up any signage so you rely on the luck of finding the transfer bus driver with a sign. Our plane arrived late and after 11pm the office is closed and they ask for an extra €60 to collect you from the airport. We agreed and waited 1 hour and called 6 times and no one answered the phone or showed up. When asked for the agents name to submit a complaint the following morning, she refused and hung up.
Not normal Europcar experience but avoid at all costs.
Australin citizens be aware, they don't hire to Australian unless you also carry an Interntaional Driver's License
Incompetent Service. First of all, they do not operate on the grounds of Chania airport. There is no Europcar representation inside the airport or anywhere on the airport grounds. You need to phone them and wait until someone comes to pick you up and then they drive you quite a distance away from the airport to their office. I suggest you choose a company that does operate inside the airport and there are plenty to choose from.
Secondly, although we booked through a travel agent who confirmed our Australian driver's license is sufficient along with our passports, the young lady at the desk on 10th September 2025 refused to allow us to hire a car. She showed us their policy which said you need a driver's license printed in English OR an international driver's license. Perfect, we had our Australian driver's licenses printed in English so we should have been allowed to hire a car. But they said this policy means Australian citizens need BOTH an Australian driver's license AND an international license. We tried our best to explain the meaning of the word OR in their policy but they insisted it meant AND. So, for any Australian citizens, I suggest you do not book with Europcar unless you have an international driver's license to show as well.
We then went on to cancel all our remaining car hires with Europcar around the Greek islands for fear they might also not understand how to translate their policy.
Every other car hire company in Greece (5 different companies and places) all accepted our Australian driver's license without any problem and could not understand Europcar Chania's problem in interpreting their own policy.
Not recommendable at all! AVOID!
Not recommendable at all! Very poor Service! Avoid it!
When booking (I searched for a rental/pick up of the car rental directly at the Corfu Airport) the information was given, that the rental station is located at the Corfu Airport. WRONG. You pay a higher price for that service which is not provided and right when arriving you find out that they intentionally lied to you!
When we arrived at the airport in Corfu we tried to call the telephone number which was stated on the voucher. No one answered for 1 hour. In the meanwhile we were looking in front of the terminal if a shuttle was passing. No shuttle within 1 hour!
A shuttle driver from a different rental company helped us and kindly drove us to our rental pick up station about a 1,5 mile o u t s i d e the Corfu Airport Area.
When informing the employee at the front desk that no one is answering the phone she said that the phone line is not working due to a severe storm 1,5 weeks ago! Well - the paying customers should be informed by problems like this. Secondly when informing the employee that there was no shuttle for 1 hour she said that this is not possible and looked at us like liars! Unbelieveable. Futhermore the person was not friendly at all! Of course she tried to sell another insurance for the car and like many others renters tried to convey uncertainty about the booked services.
The car itself was ok - of course minor damages around the car. Furthermore the inside was not very clean. Not ok was that the lights were completely incorrect set and it was hard to see something in front of you at night.
I’d really urge people to avoid this…
I’d really urge people to avoid this rental company, in Greece (Corfu) at least. My partner doesn’t have a credit card and they refused to use his debit card for the deposit without paying an extra €218 for the premium insurance, on top of the insurance we already paid and the car itself - then wanted the deposit on top again!! I asked if we could have a refund / change me to be the main driver instead as I had my credit card on me (apparently it has to be the main driver the credit card is under - makes no sense if we’re in the same party!!), but he said this was “impossible” to do - I don’t really think it is that difficult though - nothing is. Awful customer service checking in. The only positive of this rental company is that we had a pleasant check out and complimentary shuttle service back to the airport. The car did its job but it was scratched everywhere when we had it from them, so we were a bit nervous giving it back but had no issues because we took lots of photos and videoed the car before leaving on arrival.
Service is highly misleading
Service is highly misleading - no representative at the actual airport
Depot is at least 2,5km
Depot is badly signposted
Depot is sloppy with no clear separation of returns or dispatch
Waiting time for shuttle to and from the airport is to long
The service levels do not comply with Europcar service standards
Use an alternative company for faster and more convenient service
Unfair Out-of-Hours Charge Be careful!!
Europcar Chania charged me an unfair EUR 59.99 out-of-hours fee after my flight was delayed. I confirmed that this charge was never disclosed in the booking terms or conditions, I complained and requested a refund to no avail. It feels like cheating customers by hiding such fees. Very disappointed and will not use Europcar again.
DO NOT/DO NOT/DO NOT RENT.Sure wish you…
DO NOT/DO NOT/DO NOT RENT.Sure wish you would allow a .1 or zero rating. Sept 4-17 rental. Couldnt find the pick up location and took 45 min to find out from another car rental office. No info in emails that up was post 6 for their shuttle. Received the car on day one. While driving away, it was difficult to see from all the film and crap on the windshield in and out. No juice whatsoever using the windshield washer fluid. Totally empty, The air direction switch was broken and wouldn’t allow cold air through the dash vents. I returned the car next day looking for a vehicle exchange. Sure, that’ll be a 7€ cleaning charge. WHAT!!!, the car was filthy when I received it and I’m returning it on day two. 2nd car was replaced and windows still dirty as heck. Vehicle was returned and agent was slow as ever. 30 min later when almost done, she states there is a balance of 7€ for a cleaning fee. WHOA!!! I explained what happened and she says she’d be talking to her manager later. I left and immediately LOCKED MY CREDIT CARD. Bunch of B.S.
Try another rental.
Extra insurance
They don’t accept debit or Revolut cards. To use one, they force you to purchase their full insurance, even though I had already paid for full insurance when making the booking from Booking.com
