Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the product quality, citing issues such as torn covers, missing dust jackets, and extensive markings in books advertised as "good" or "new" condition. Reviewers also frequently encountered problems with their orders, including receiving incorrect editions, damaged items, or only partial shipments. A significant number of people were particularly frustrated with the refund process, reporting that their requests were ignored or denied, even with proof of damage. Additionally, many felt that the pricing was misleading, as they paid premium prices for items that were clearly not as described or were available for much less elsewhere.

Beware

Beware: this company is fraudulent. I purchased a book from them through Biblio.com and contacted them on Instagram. Someone named "Tom" told me the book that I purchased had been located. After several weeks, I still have not received the book and I was given a false UPSP tracking number. Do not do business with this scammer.

Another horrible experience with the…

Another horrible experience with the notorious Ergode Books! The second time in as many months they have ordered a book from me which the USPS Tracking website confirmed they HANDED TO AN INDIVIDUAL only for Ergode to turn around and say they never received it and got a full refund. ERGODE IS AN INFAMOUS RIP-OFF FACTORY! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Wish I could just block them from ordering from me.

Terrible condition for a book that was marked as "good". Heavily water damaged book to the point where I would throw it away. Company doesn't respond to emails. Definitely will not buy from Ergodebooks again! Avoid!

This business IS NOT legitimate

This business doesn’t seem legitimate. I waited two weeks with no tracking information or updates on my purchase. When I tried calling the phone number listed, no one responded. Because of that, I disputed the charge with my credit card company.

Only after I filed the dispute did they finally reply, saying they’re a small business and that I needed to close the dispute in order for them to issue a refund or ship the order. I contacted my credit card company to close the dispute and emailed the merchant again — and once again, I received no response.

They still have not refunded my money, and I have not received any further communication from them. Be careful — this feels like a scam.

False description of condition and overcharged

I got a textbook for $89 in "good" condition from this seller. what arrived was an amazon order for $55 and the book is in HORRIBLE condition. The back is being held together by office tape and all the corners are bent. The sticker on the back says "acceptable" which means this book is on its last life. yes, the pages are in normal condition but it's the fact that I paid for a book in GOOD condition for almost $90, not $55. I tried asking ecampus for a refund but they told me I needed to contact the seller. It's been 3 days and no response and my textbook credits literally expire in 4 days. I'm so upset.

I won't buy from Ergodebooks.com again

I ordered this book from Biblio.com who sells this company's books. Ergode listed the book as in "good" condition and never mentioned that the books was missing the dust jacket. The spine and cover corners of the book are torn and frayed. This is not what "good" means from other companies. At times they are listed as "good" but mention that the dust jacket is missing. In addition, there is a large label and packing tape across the front ot the cover which cannot be removed or it will the paper off the cover. This book is "acceptable" at best.

fulfilled through Amazon, unresponsive

I ordered a book from them, through Biblio, listed as new. When I received it, it was clear that it was a "print on demand" version: the text was oversized for the page, and ran into the center. I took photos, and requested a return.

Biblio was responsive, and suggested to Ergodebooks that I just be refunded. Ergodebooks took a while to respond, and first demanded that I attach photos (which I had already done), then said there would be a restocking fee. When I pointed out that the book was unreadable and that I had already provided photos, they then sent a return label and said I would be refunded immediately once the book was received.

I had suspected that they had fulfilled the book from Amazon (because of the print-on-demand nature), and the return label was indeed for an Amazon return center. I use Biblio as a way to avoid Amazon and Amazon's used book seller (AbeBooks) so was only made more irate by this.

I returned the book, tracking showed that it was received. I did not receive a refund.

In the end, Biblio refunded me by listing the book as "shipment has been canceled". I never received any follow-up from Ergodebooks.

I had been happy to order from Ergodebooks in the past but will not do so in the future, and warn others not to do so either.

Don't touch with barge pole!

They despatched heavy book costing me £87 plus £16p&p, USA to UK in flimsy airmail envelope (so where does £16 p&p go???) with no packing or protection. Arrived battered, ripped and not in good state.
I requested refund but they they wanted me to provide proof of return first so I generally felt discomfort. Also read reviews where others did not receive refund after return so I opened a Paypal dispute instead as trusted that process.
Ergobooks kept asking to close it and they would refund immediately but I did not trust.
However, despite many replies to Paypal and providing all evidence requested - even a video of me posting it at drop off parcel boxes (InPost) Paypal somehow found in Ergo favour. I am appealing Paypal decision as they gave Ergobooks several options to reply and sometimes weeks. Paypal gave me 3 DAYS and then closed without notice and despite stating I can appeal there is no appeal option. Back to Ergo... They have neither refunded me via Paypal or directly as promised. They have ceased comms with me.
Please avoid like the plague as they will stiff you over.
I will get my money back, I am like do with a bone and Ergo are definitely my bone so I am confident one or other. I can only guess they've told Paypal a pack of lies about return as I cannot see how on earth Paypal have found in their favour. So there is a warning too!

Ordered a book to the UK via Amazon

Ordered a book to the UK via Amazon. Book never arrived, got in contact through Amazon to let them know the book hadn’t arrived. They respond with the same generic email each time telling me they shipped the book out the next day, sent me several emails regarding my order etc. Despite several requests to see the shipping/tracking information and the evidence of the several emails that were sent to me they fail to do so, and just respond with the same generic response ignoring my request.

I don’t think the book was ever shipped in the first place. Avoid this company.

Don't waste your time and money

Don't waste your time and money. Bought a book as a gift from them through their Amazon store and 8 days later I receive an email saying my order was cancelled. the book being marked as unavailable from them on Amazon is somehow still in stock on their own website...at ten times the price id been charged. Never any updates from seller whatsoever before the cancellation. After checking on trust pilot a lot of other users have had the same issues. Will NOT be purchasing from them again and absolutely do not recommend this company. Very disappointed

What Customer Service?

Ordered a how-to book on making 3D comics for my son. Book arrived marked up and missing the 3D glasses and wipe - off pen listed in the description. Multiple pages were drawn on, basically rendering the book unusable. What's worse is nowhere in the site's description did it say the book was used. I was under the impression I was buying a brand new book.

I have tried multiple times to contact customer service about this, and have gotten nowhere. I couldn't give this item zero stars, but that's what it deserves.

I think it was intentional scam and I paid the stupid tax. I ordered 10 books for $21.30 per book. They sent me 1/10 and said order was complete. I emailed and didn't hear back until I disputed CC charge. Then the refunded my 80% of money so I ended up paying $42 for 1 book when market price is in low $20's. My bad for using a company I didn't know and not reading reviews. BUT BUYER BE WARE
