Shockingly bad car and customer service
We bought a car from Elderwood Motors on 11 April 2026 for our 17-year-old son's first car. He had worked incredibly hard to save for it, so this has been a very upsetting experience for our family.
Just over two months after purchase, the vehicle developed multiple serious faults and is now considered by our independent garage to be beyond economical repair and destined for scrap.
According to the garage that inspected the vehicle, there were numerous issues, including heavily corroded suspension coils that had been recorded as an advisory on the 2025 MOT but did not appear on the fresh 2026 MOT carried out before the sale. The garage also noted that the underbody and suspension components had been undersealed, and they believed this had concealed the extent of the corrosion. They also found a hole in the sump that appeared to have been covered over and was leaking oil. Their opinion was that the car had been "patched up in order to sell it on."
Within just two and a half months, the clutch had also failed and the coolant flange was leaking. The car had to be towed to the garage, and once it was on the ramp, they discovered further serious problems. We are extremely concerned that our son had been driving what the garage considered to be an unsafe vehicle.
What made the situation even worse was Elderwood Motors' response when we tried to raise our concerns. On 4 July 2026 we phoned three separate times to discuss the matter. On each occasion we were told the manager did not deal with complaints. We asked to speak to the most senior person available, but they repeatedly refused to speak to us.
We made every reasonable effort to resolve this directly with the dealership before considering any further action, but we were denied the opportunity to have a proper conversation about our concerns.
Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Elderwood Motors. The condition of the vehicle, combined with the complete lack of customer service when problems arose, has left us deeply disappointed. I wish we had read the reviews in more detail before we visited Elderwood Motors as we would have avoided them, I hope this review will save someone else the same issue.
Very satisfied
From start to Finnish they were very helpful and a very good service. Car is working well no issues and the one that I had at very beginning they made sure all bits were done before car handed over. All I can say is thanks
Amazing customer service
I recently bought a SEAT Leon from this garage and couldn't be happier with the experience. Having just passed my driving test, I was looking for my first car and the whole process was made easy and stress-free.
A special thank you to Yousaf, who was incredibly helpful, friendly, and professional from start to finish. He took the time to answer all my questions, made sure I was comfortable with everything, and helped me find the perfect car.
Yousef sold me a car
Great experience as a first time buyer
I recently passed my test and went to Elderwood to buy my first car. It was my first time going through the process, but they made it a lot easier than I expected.
I was helped by Yousaf — he might look young, but he clearly knows what he’s doing. I told him what I was looking for and within a few minutes he showed me a Citroen C1 that matched perfectly. He didn’t waste time talking too much, just got straight to the important details and let me test drive it without any hassle.
Any questions I had, he answered clearly and professionally, which gave me confidence in both him and the car.
Overall, I thought buying a car would be quite stressful, but it actually wasn’t thanks to the service I received.
Just bought a Kia Rio
Just bought a Kia Rio, & couldn’t be happier, the service was great from start to finish, especially with a man called Ali, he went above & beyond to make the sale go smoothly, the car was delivered on same day, & was just as described. I would certainly recommend this car sales team, & would use them again. Thankyou Ali
Overpaid for a barely roadworthy BMW 1 series.
Bought and overpaid for a BMW 1 series, travelled 2 and a half hours to look at the car. Was closing so never offered a test drive. On the way home noticed the speedometer wasn't working! They came and collected next day didn't have it back for a week.
A couple of weeks I broke down on the motorway with my baby yet again another issue with auxillary belt tensioner to which I was told none of it was covered by warranty even though I was sent the warranty pack and clearly stated it was covered by evolution they still refused to touch it.
So trading standards were involved and I was offered money for labour.
A couple of weeks again another issue with the crankshaft and yet again warranty won't cover. So yet again were forking out for it.
Please people before going anywhere near this garage read these reviews. They need shutting down or even just to be honest. The cars are clearly good for scrap not much else.
Very quick to try and blame someone or something else for the issues to.
A not so merry Christmas to me (yes I'm sulking).
Bought an Audi A4 2.0tdi off of these…
Bought an Audi A4 2.0tdi off of these conmen a couple years ago.
Everything seemed good until a low oil pressure light popped up a couple weeks after purchase. Then noticed large spots of oil on my driveway and so took it to my mechanic. He said there's a huge oil leak from the rocker cover , it had warped and even the mechanic said he couldn't understand how or why that would happen..
All needed replacing at a cost of £635.
Then noticed N/S tire kept needed pumping up, so replaced that thinking it was a slow puncture. Same thing was happening with new tire....kept going down. Noticed that when turning tight at low speed the tire was literally coming away from alloy, grinding on the road and losing air . Something up with steering column .
Then a few months later again exactly the same issue happened with leaking oil from rocker cover . So again had it fixed at same cost ......
The final straw for me was when at the start of this year the turbo and injectors needed replacing at a cost of around £3000 ( I didn't get it fixed , obviously) the car was scrapped , as it should've been before it was sold to me . This car (apparently) only had 57,000 miles on it as well . Wasted so much money on that heap of junk.
I don't believe they didn't know it was crap.
I'm sure they have dodgy mechanics and MOT testers that do bodge jobs on the crappy cars to get them gone for a profit..
These scammers sell shit heaps to unsuspecting members of the public and should be avoided . They should be shut down .
Never buy a car off of "those" people anyway. They're a very untrustworthy group of people ..... If you know what I mean . 🍛
Dodge this place!!!
Dodge this place!!!! luckily we have purchased a car from a trust worthy dealer….but after our experience with these guys I lost faith in ever buying a used car……we purchased a JEEP GRANDCHEROKEE - N10 URW…..which still says that it’s sold on the website! MOT and service bodged…had a fault on it when I test drove it and they said they would get that sorted lied to us and said they have replaced a sensor…..we collected the car and drove 10 miles from Peterborough the car flashed up with the same fault I noticed on the test drive…and then the car flashed LOW OIL PRESSURE and then totally shut down at 60mph…..it took over a month for them to send the money back to the finance company and was trying to dodge any email I sent so there wasn’t a paper trail! I don’t even think the car had any oil in it!!!!
Shocking experience and dangerous!
Really terrible service
Really terrible service, do not touch it!! Brought a car, as soon as I got it home the engine was losing oil. Had to drive it back as they did not offer to fetch or offer courtesy car. When informed problem was resolved I had to do a test drive to which I found a clanking noise, turns out they forgot to put a part together, finally got it sorted until I got home and it still wasn’t working properly, after several calls to them, I was fobbed off and pushed pillar to post, until I got trading standards involved, the company still dragged their feet, terrible aftercare, no-one to speak to about issues, no one cares… stay away is my advice.
Lovely staff
Bought a little Nissan Micra for my wife , from initial phone call to driving away with it, was a pleasure to be served by Ali.. was even kind enough to get me takeaway as i asked if there was any food outlets nearby , Really appreciate that thank you
Bought an automatic Peugeot 208 grey
Bought an automatic Peugeot 208 grey, had it diagnosed as soon as I could and multiple faults/errors came back, was so much hassle getting a refund for the car and we still came up short of over £1000, highly recommend that you find another dealership
After a stressful 2 weeks of purchasing…
After a stressful 2 weeks of purchasing the car and raising car finance for the car 1. Not ready on collection 2. Waiting mot 3. Required a part that went on back order which was bogus as it can be sourced within a day 4. Delayed responses 5. Requires more parts 6. Think it could be an engine issue..7. Offered another vehicle with less spec and more miles…. wasted my time non stop stress and admittedly kindly offered me a courtesy car which was a nice gesture the car itself was lethal as pulled to the right const.. carfinance247 not helping situation and still not cancelled DD as it come out of my bank. Poor service from start to finish.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS BUSINESS - SCAMMERS
Stay away from this business. Brought a car from them earlier this year and it was faulty - after they supposedly 'fixed' it, it broke again (within the first month) and I was refused the full refund that I deserved. This company were willing to sell my faulty car (still in my name with no refund) and advertised it. They also moved the ownership of the car illegally to their name before any refund was agreed. The owner of the business is extremely patronising and rude. They caused me a great deal of stress and I am over £1000 out of pocket, being refunded under what I should have been and having to purchase another car as the process took 5 months!
They have clearly done this before so do not make the same mistake as I did!
My wife bought a car from elderwood…

DREADFUL COMPANY. SAVE YOUR SELF STRESS
bought a c4 picasso around months ago im not from the area so got the car delivered. my partner signed for it as i was at work. the car came with 2 flat tyres. but let that go, after 2 weeks the in car screen stopped working found out it was the 20amp fuse. few days later it blew again an then again so i put a 25 amp in ( obviously has an electrical problem but its stopped blowing now with the 25amp fuse in) and not the car is starting when it wants sometimes taking 50 goes to start it, ive replaced the starter motor at a cost at 140 and the problem still persists. i contacted elderwood motors as my car is under warranty an they have been very un helpful and told me ive got to pay for a full independent inspection even tho the car is under warranty. HONESTLY IF YOU ARE READING THIS TRUST ME STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! COWBOY COMPANY
Brought my car 3 months ago, I wish I never bothered! Have had nothing but trouble with it! After only a week of owning it, it wouldn’t start… we then managed to get it to start and returned it back to this company who then “got the issue sorted” …… it still was temperamental, with the most recent time being where I was unable to start the car for TWO WEEKS!!!!!!! I contacted them to tell them of the issue and how the car was booked in to Citroen but they did nothing to help me get it recovered back to Peterborough!! Baring in mind I had already returned it in the past and paid out extra fuel to travel the 1 hour commute!
We have been told on several occasions that they would ring us back….. which they never!
According to Citroen the issue lies with the keys…. One is a good key, the other is basically dead…. We have asked them to replace the dead key…. Considering they provided the car with two keys…. And now they are refusing!!!!
I have 3 young children and currently have no transport as the car is still with Citroen I’m having to rely on my parents to help with school/nursery runs!
And having an unreliable car is not good! I only got a new car as I needed something a bit bigger!!!! I wish I never bothered with giving this cowboy company the custom we did!!!!
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!
Buyer beware.
Not sure they know what they are doing. Bought our car, picked it up on 1st July. 8th July the exhaust fell off. (rusted through). MOT was done in April so they obviously did not bother checking it (even tho it's their reputation on the line). Went in to see them on 3rd August to see where my registration documents were, as had not received them. Told they only do the paperwork once a month. Received the documents today, only to find they had registered it in my name making my insurance invalid (we needed it in my husband's name which I specifically made a point of when picking up the car).
When at their office, I received no apology for late documents or for exhaust falling off, which had I received the documents earlier I would not have even mentioned to them. I'm not after money but common decency should surely have shown concern over the exhaust.
Still, lesson learned, make sure you get an AA check on any car you buy.
