Unsatisfactory & Unprofessional - Eco Lofts and Extensions, Hull

I’m writing this review to bring to everyone’s notice who is considering hiring EcoLofts the disrespectful, careless, sloppy and unprofessional manner in which they conduct their business.

My parents had hired EcoLofts to convert our loft into bedroom and although the business had guaranteed to start the work in September, promising a 3 month turnaround and a handover by Christmas, that wasn’t the case in the end.

Keeping that point aside as I’m not closed off to accepting that these works can take longer than expected, I’d like to highlight the sheer lack of security and safety for our home that EcoLofts displayed. My parents work 5 days a week and had agreed to leave our home keys with EcoLofts so that they could enter our home and continue the work. This agreement was reached after a sense of trust in EcoLofts which was broken by them when they left our home unlocked. We were notified of this indiscretion by someone else, who had simply knocked on our door and found it come ajar. Luckily, we were on our way home and were able to secure our property but this is the biggest example of many careless activities that my parents had to endure.

For the duration of the work, EcoLofts promised to hire a transportable toilet for their use which they never did. Instead, they used my toilet which would have been ok if it weren’t for the dirty shoe prints on the floor, brown stains in my shower from the residue they had poured down it and urine stains in the pot stool that my mother had to clean everyday after a long day at work herself. Furthermore, the team spilt coffee on our carpet which they promised to clean up but of course, never did, leading to a permanent stain in our carpet.

Now I would like to highlight the unprofessional manner in which they responded to their own miscalculation and frankly deceived my parents. The team miscalculated the number of tiles that would be required for the bathroom, leading to 10 extra tile boxes. They then promised to secure a refund and after many tireless rounds of my parents following up on this, they were told by the team at Clifton Bathrooms that no such refund would be granted as EcoLofts would be installing a vanity unit instead. My parents had not agreed to this installation and had in fact explicitly refused this substitution but had to hear from a 3rd party that this decision was final and already underway. On the topic of the bathroom, the door has a clearly defined crack which doesn’t allow for it to properly shut. We raised this issue months ago and although EcoLofts has ordered and secured a new door on 20th April, it has not yet been installed till date even after 75 days.

The cherry on top has been EcoLofts posting photos of our home on their WhatsApp catalog without our consent. This is a clear violation of our privacy but wait there’s more. Even after our express demands for those photos to be taken down, they were not, and these pictures are still up on their catalog at the time of me posting this, months after my parents expressly asked them to be taken down. My parents being treated with such disrespect is seriously appalling and does not sit right with me.

If I were to recount more examples of the team’s negligence and disrespect, this review would be longer than it already is. I feel hurt that my parents had to endure such unprofessionalism and flippant behaviour for some work for the improvement of our home they were lovingly looking forward to.
