'Create Anything’ — But Not Really

I’ve been a loyal DreamPress user for almost two years. Things were relatively smooth until October 17, 2025, when the Smart Filter was introduced. The update was said to be in response to UK law, but since then, the platform has become overly restrictive. Basic storytelling elements, including character backstories and context, are now often flagged, which has made the experience frustrating.

What stands out is that some flagged content does not appear to violate DreamPress’s own sexual content policy, which is supposed to be in line with UK law. After reading the legislation myself, the current application of the filter feels unnecessarily aggressive and inconsistent with the law’s intent.

Unfortunately, communication from the DreamPress team has been minimal. I’ve sent emails and DMs, but have not received a response. On Discord, messages about the filter are frequently skipped, avoided, or met with the same repeated line:
“Due to UK regulations, we need to keep strict filters in place to ensure the platform remains compliant and accessible, otherwise it risks being blocked.”
This response has not changed over time and provides little clarity or direction.

Many users are now relying on workarounds in order to continue their stories. This defeats the purpose of the platform, especially for those of us who joined because of its flexibility and creative tools. It is concerning to see that the community is left to troubleshoot among themselves without meaningful support or updates.

The DreamPress homepage still features the words “Create Anything.” That message no longer reflects the current state of the platform. When even basic context is being flagged, and communication is limited, it becomes difficult to trust that creativity is truly supported.

DreamPress has the potential to be a unique space for writers. I hope the team will consider a more balanced approach and restore the openness that once defined the platform.

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.

They refused to cancel my account after trying it out for one day, which was 8 months ago, and now they have increased what they are charging me. Unresponsive, untrustworthy. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.

They try to 'secretly' sneak charges…

They try to 'secretly' sneak charges onto your credit card, an extra 20$ every month. I don't know why, I suspect it's for a chatGPT subscription cause that's the only thing I can think of that costs 20$. So on top of the 15$ a month for premium, you're getting charged the extra 20$. So 35$ a month. I am quite upset on this honestly. They don't respond to my attempts at contacting support via email or discord either.

Used to be a good app but too many updates and not a big enough LLM sizing to have good vocabulary for story writing

Too much stuff is not working properly with this app. It's getting worse and worse by the day but the owners and developers don't seem to care. Wish I could go back in time a few months because I wouldn't have purchased an annual subscription had I known the app was going to stop working functionally like it used to. It has a director's prompt feature that's supposed to let you help get a story back on track but it rarely follows the prompts you give it and just goes off on it's own typically repeating the paragraph right before the next prompt in only a slightly different fashion. The support for the app has been notified but they don't do anything to fix the issue. The app is notorious for repeating the same set of phrases and lines of text. It's very limited on it's LLM and likely doesn't have enough word variations to be a good writing tool as there are several free writing apps that do a better job with much larger word vocabularies. On top of that the developers constantly push out daily updates to the app at random times without any warning and no consistency other than they happen nearly every day. This can be a problem if you're in the middle of creating content as it won't always save the new generations and causes you to have to reload the page losing your place and content. They have been warned about this but refuse to fix their process for updates to be like other tech related companies where updates happen on a planned cycle that customers can be made aware of before hand so they make plans not to use the product during said time frame. Additionally, the company has billing provider issues a few times a year and ends up double billing in error.

Not really worth paying for

Not really worth paying for. Is this really AI? Why does it keep reusing sentences? Seems its a lot of canned content it's pulling from. And it forgets details about characters, what location it's in and sometimes just writes stuff that makes no sense. And every single story follows a basic theme of progression.

Maybe it will be better in a few years but for now, I'm glad I only purchased one month service

Dream Press AI Needs A LOT of work before you pay for it

I've been using Dream Press AI for several days now, attempting to write 2 different stories with the paid version. Although this tool is exactly what I was hoping for in theory, the tool needs A LOT of improvement.

The biggest problem with this tool is that it does a really bad job at remembering the details already written in previous parts of the story. For example, if I write that the character is bald headed, Dream Press will include details about the "long hair" of the character. It doesn't matter how many times you correct it. It keeps forgetting details that were already established.

You'll establish that the scene is at someone's house and it will keep adding details that the characters are at the gym. If the girl is wearing a skirt, Dream Press still wants to write about the girl's jeans in the same scene she's wearing a skirt. You establish that your character is turned on by his wife's affair, but Dream Press AI wants to write in details how the husband is so hurt and angry by it. It's quite ridiculous. You have to correct it way too often.

Another issue is that it wants to use the same phrases or words to describe something, over and over again. A lack of variety you could say.

When you get to use director mode, just flat out doesn't work.

The concept of this tool is great, especially for those who want to write an erotic story. But it's not worth paying much for it until they fix the issues with it.

It doesn't allow for gore

It doesn't allow for gore. I tried to dispose of my characters and it wouldn't allow me because they don't allow "self harm." I guess the people at dreampress haven't read any type of books that contain drama. If they were to read books, they would see that characters get disposed of all the time. I also struggled to get the text generator to follow what I wrote. it generates positive themes more than dark themes. I spent more time rewriting its input than writing because it was so bad. It is fiction bro. If you are going to limit what a person could write, then what is the point of using the service. I suggest the company executives actually read paranormal books like, the drowning kind. In that type of book, they end the book by disposing the main character. I should be able to do the same. No point of using it if I can't. I don't like being limited what I write because people are afraid of dark themes. And you shouldn't limit your Text bot because the administrators are afraid of such dark themes. I am not going to use it again.

Good, but takes time without premium.

I've written a few stories on dreampress in my time. Every day you only get 6/8 generations, which isn't a lot, but if you are willing to take several weeks to write something then it's possibly one of the best ones out there.
If you have premium it's even better.
