Eroded Trust

I paid €2.99 to bump my sofa advert on DoneDeal. Within five minutes, I received a message from a scammer wanting to buy the item through FedEx, and have since been pestered by them.
My issue isn't that the bump feature failed technically—it did move my advert to the top of the listings. My issue is that the only immediate result of paying for extra exposure was contact from a scammer, which significantly eroded my trust in the platform.
I contacted customer support and requested a goodwill refund of €2.99 given the circumstances. While the responses were polite, DoneDeal refused to show any flexibility.
For me, this isn't about the money; it's about customer trust and how concerns are handled when a customer has a poor experience.

Thanks for sharing this — and we're sorry that your first experience after paying for a bump was contact from a scammer. That's genuinely frustrating and we completely understand why it eroded your trust.

Unfortunately scammers are a reality on any open marketplace, but that doesn't make it any less unpleasant when it happens. You can avoid this by turning off phone/text as a contact option and using only the DoneDeal message centre where much greater security features exist.

We're sorry we couldn't do more when you reached out. If you'd like to try again, we're at hello@donedeal.ie and we'll do our best to help.

Sorry to hear the calls aren't coming in — especially when you know you've got a good car at a great price.

A few things can make a real difference: competitive pricing, plenty of clear photos, and a detailed description all help attract serious buyers. Our team would be happy to take a look and offer some tips — just drop us a line at hello@donedeal.ie.

Ever since this company was taken over…

Ever since this company was taken over by a hedge fund who bought three companies together that's what daft for property, adverts and donedeal for car sale.

They have become a greed machine as they have monopolised the market especially for car sales.

Advertisement cost is so high that is out of reach from a normal seller who's not a motor trader to advertise.

Prices range from 36.99 43.99 even 56 or 60 euros depending on the asking price of the car. Most of the time car doesn't sell within two to three weeks and then you're out of auto bumps then you only have one option to pay again and get your ad on top.

DoneDeal platform is not even that great because when you have a auto registration to collect the details most of the time it picks up incorrect details.

Money making racket and fleecing consumers.marketpe all to try to comes into the market

I hope AutoTrader in UK comes into the Irish market to give them a real competition as their website is much better and prices much more competitive

Thanks for sharing this — we hear your frustration, and we know feelings run strong on pricing.

Fees represent a small percentage of your car's value and help you reach Ireland's largest car-buying audience. With 3M+ monthly users and 1,000+ cars sold daily, listings on DoneDeal sell faster and for more — so the value is real.

Your feedback on the auto-registration feature is noted and we'll make sure it gets to the right team. If you'd like to talk through anything, we're at hello@donedeal.ie.

The greed machine at Done Deal knows no bounds

The greed machine at Done Deal knows no bounds, it would seem.
Motoring ads are far too expensive, particularly for budget cars. I often let the ad run for a fortnight on Marketplace and only use Done Deal as a last resort if my item is unsold.
I also find myself unable to use the internal messaging. If a prospective buyer low balls you and you decline then the system will allow them to leave a rating and it could be based on sour grapes.
I also feel that there should be no visible opinion by the site around any of the information within my ad, eg a remark by Done Deal indicating mileage is considered high. If I am paying these rates then let the buyer decide for themselves how they feel about mileage. The system has zero credibility when 167k KM is considered 'Same as Average' mileage on a twenty year old car.
Years ago, Buy & Sell got greedy, transferring customers who were entitled to place free ads over to their sales dept for paid ads in an attempt to increase revenue and we all know how that went.
I look forward to the day when Done Deal gets theirs, I am certain that it will be very satisfying.
