Information provided by various external sources

Dillenger began in 2007 when the founders of a small Aussie-based engineering firm were looking to build a custom bike frame made from an intricate arrangement of stainless steel rods. This seemly ‘run-of-the-mill’ hobby project led to the intriguing thought – ‘should we motorize this thing?’ Being engineers, the temptation to motorize anything was just too much to bear. This prototype vintage space frame chassis electric bike proved to be a bit of a hit and the company was asked to produce a few models locally for existing clients. One thing led to another and before long, this engineering firm was obsessed with everything electric bike related. Later in 2007, Dillenger Pty Ltd was registered as a company in Queensland, Australia. The following years led to steady, conservative growth, selling limited models locally in Queensland, Australia. Sales often took a back seat to the development of new, better-engineered models. This strategy limited Dillenger’s growth early on, but also meant that production models developed quickly and became the most reliable in a market of otherwise notoriously unreliable products. New technology in batteries, brushless motors and intelligent motor controllers led to huge improvements in the quality and reliability of electric bikes from 2008 to 2010. Even more recently, the reduction in the cost of basic electric bike components has led to the explosion the e-bike market around the world. With the reduction in cost and increase in the size of the market, there has been a flood of startups importing cheap knock-offs. Already, many businesses seem to come and go, leaving customers in a lurch with no after sales support. Dillenger marks the 7th year of production with the sale of the 10,000th unit since 2007. Dillenger’s market in the last 3 years has exploded. Products are now sold online 24/7, all around the world.

Bought their 1000w kit, Arc Kit, Battery and delt with service.

Bought their 1000w kit with upgraded wiring and 10Ah battery.
The rear rack is so cheaply made it will crack and fail within just a few months. - Then they have the galls to try and charge me $55 for a new one when they are sold for less than half that (INCLUDING the shipping) on Ebay? No thanks.
In-fact another guy made a website about this same issue, so it seems I wasn't the only one!
dillengerelectricbicycles.com

I am also on my 3rd battery with that kit. Ouch at $500 each.

**************

The second kit I got was the Arc 1000w kit. They didn't glue/pad down the internal battery sufficiently, thus over time the battery pack would rattle, eventually it would get loose enough to damage the internal components.
Have sent it back on multiple occasions... So now I just don't bother using that bike if I don't have to so I don't have to deal with it.

*************

Their facebook page blocked and removed me from their page after I asked a few questions, which was sad to see. But not entirely unexpected.

Their customer service hasn't replied to my emails in weeks, tried getting in contact multiple times, no reply even after waiting a month+
They just don't seem interested.

There are other companies that deal with ebike kits that are more deserving of your coin... Such as Luna Cycles... Go there instead and don't was your time with Dillenger.

I wish I had of found this site prior to handing over my hard earned. Fit any bike, crap! Do not try to fit these kits to a Trek bike, had to modify forks and most of the parts had to be adapted by electric bikes wa. When I sent an email for help it was more of a brush off than help. So I took their advice and bought the street legal kit, talk about gutless on a slight hill it really struggles. They could not refer me to one person in WA to help put the thing together. I was lucky with Google I got a champion bloke who worked the kit onto my bike. Soon as the she who must be obeyed has accepted this purchase look for it on Gumtree and I know where my next E Bike is coming from....NOT DILLENGER!

Execellent Product, Excellent Customer Service

I bought my first E-bike from Dillenger in 2015 to travel from my place to college which is located about 3 miles away and it takes me only 40 minutes to get there, I love it. If I were going to use the public transport it would take me about 2/3 hours, so I defo did the right thing. I was so happy with the service and the product that I got from the company that I decided to buy a second E-Bike, Samsung, which is as good as the first one. I had a few issues which I needed sometimes getting in touch with the customer service and they were always there for me. I truly recommend anyone to buy from Dillenger. And a big thank you for being always there for me. Regards Leandro Santos

I was very well looked after by the sales and support team, quick friendly and helpful responses, and excellent recovery of two parcels that went briefly astray in the warehouse. They did everything they could to make sure they had a satisfied customer, and the build-quality of the products reflects their enthusiasm for doing a good job.

Definitely recommended, fun and great bikes

Dillenger was recommended by a friend, so I decided to try them out and I couldn't be happier. Got a good deal on one of their bikes and it has been serving me well. Easy to use and comfortable. I definitely recommend their bikes

Great purchase!

Dillenger helped me a bunch with introducing me to ebikes and suggested the best ebike for me. Would happily recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good bike for a great price!

Awesome bike for a great price

I needed an electric bike to get me to work which isn't too far away from me. Bought the opia to get the job done because it was foldable and looked nice. This is my first time riding an electric bike so I was surprised with the power when I tested it. The motor definitely helped me get up some hills along the way. I also got the rear rack too for all my things. Overall been a great bike and happy with the purchase

One Star Because I Cant Give a Negative Star

On the 16th January 2017 I rang Dillinger in Qld Australia and enquired about their folding electric bike which was on sale with free shipping, yes it would be arriving in store the following week. No, I couldn't place my order over the phone. I placed my order via the internet utilising PayPal. I received a receipt from PayPal and nothing at all from Dillenger. I rang Dillinger on the 6th and the person on the phone said, "the bikes are on the wharf waiting for an asbestos check". When I queried why I had received nothing from Dillinger I was then sent an email that I should have received two weeks earlier. I pointed out that if there was an issue with supply perhaps it would be good customer service to inform customers that there was a hold up in supply and could my feedback be fed up the chain. It is now Friday the 17th Feb2017 still nothing.

To top it off free shipping is only free to some places. I had to pay just over $100 to have the bike sent to Tasmania. Except theres no bike as yet.
Utterly appalling customer service. I can't comment on the bike as I don't have it.

Dont buy from Dillenger!

Wrote the below a few months ago. Having looked online now and compared their prices with other companies, Dillenger are considerably more expensive.

I bought a £1300 bike, which worked well for 200miles, then stopped. After 2 months Dillenger diagnosed it to be their so called 'bulletproof' hub motor. After 4 months, and having to pay £75 (they tried to charge £150 - even though still under warranty) the replacement arrived, but was incompatible with the bike. Through threats, negative reviews and constantly writing emails I managed to get a refund. The whole process has been a terrible pain. The owner Sam is full of tricks to misfoot you, his idea of truth seems to be whatever he can get you to believe. The parts came from the Hangzou Fangzhou electric bike company in China, I don't think Dillenger manufacturer the bikes. I would suggest paying more and get quality that is reliable, otherwise a few months down the line you may have junk on your hands. For kits try googling 'uk electric bike kit'. Dillenger are in Australia

apology with reservations

i posted a review recently, and whilst some of the comments were valid, some points were unfair. The main issues for me was the length of time it took for Dillinger to reply to Emails, what i did not understand was the replies were coming from Australia, and not the uk, and the time difference was an issue.
However the main issues remain that having purchased a new lithium battery from Dillinger, and at Dillingers request i have had to fault find by meter checks, and strip down, without resolution, i am still awaiting a positive resolution.

Very poor customer service

I purchased the street legal 250W kit last May and was very happy.

In early December the kit began to show problems and has now failed completely. Whilst initial customer support was OK I have been unable to make contact with their support since December 23. I purchased the produce largely on the strength of the warranty and now really wish I had not.

I now have £500 of useless hardware attached to my bike and no support.

Scammers stealing money from people.

My brother tries to order a kit for his bike and inadvertantly ended up ordering two. They said they would refund both but what this company actually did was take both lots of money and send absolutely nothing. Not even 1 kit. They cancelled his orders and stole his money. They flat out refuse to refund now. They had the cheek to ask for another lot of money to release one set of goods and refund the precious cancelled orders.

My brother has ms and doesn't need this sort of hassle from a bunch of scammers. Currently having to deal with the card company and reporting Dillinger Pty for fraud to retrieve the money they have flat out stolen. Avoid this company at all costs

Poor technical support and customer service

I purchased the 250w mid range battery kit 36v 14.4 amp battery and no issues initially with the conversion.
However I had battery problems with arcing between charger and battery causing the charger plug to burn out and make the battery charger unusable.
No answers from tech support (Aust) on cause or solution and after wasting 3 battery chargers I sent the battery back. 3 months later still no response to emails and a recent ph call.

ebike kit - just what I needed

Installed the ebike front wheel kit on my city bike... and wow, va va voom up the hill. Later this week I will try using the trailer and 2 kids, so hauling an extra 50 kilos behind the bike. My local bike shop installed it and it was a relatively smooth operation. A couple of minor points: the cables are very very long - perhaps the same ones are used for the back wheel kit or rack mounted battery. Since my battery is in the middle of the frame there is a lot of extra cable length which has ended up being tucked into the basket on the front wheel. The system is designed to connect front and back lights to the battery and LCD display which would be really cool - but I can't see such lights being sold as an accessory on the site or recommendations about which lights to buy that are compatible. Again, these extra cables end up hanging in the front basket. If these minor issues were resolved, it would be an enthusiastic 5 star review. Overall would recommend this kit.
