I tried getting in touch with a sales rep 4 times already and haven't received a call back. I left 3 voicemails and also emailed one of their reps. I want to exchange my bike due to damages I found when assembling it... they're sure fast to take your money! Beware...
Buy somehwere with a better product that is backed by the company.
We purchased a closeout 2021 Cortello for our teenager as a Christmas gift, priced at 639.00. It didn't get a ton of use that year because he was still at home. Fast forward a year or so and the rear tire went flat. No problem, got it fixed. Sent kiddo to college with bike. Rear tire goes flat. Take it bike shop, get fun flat tire, good to go. Within a month, flat again. This just keeps happening and we have been to different professional bike shops. I contacted Detroit Bikes to ask what could possibly be the problem since multiple bike shops can't all be getting it wrong. They suggested I take it to a bike shop for repair. That's it. I wanted to shop local but I recommend you shop elsewhere.
Detroit Bikes don’t stand behind anything
I received my bike as a Christmas present back in December. I was so excited to have a local made Detroit Bike. I was able to ride it for the first time in April and we heard a clicking noise every time I pedaled and the gears would shift on their own. We sent an email to Detroit Bikes hoping they’d let us bring it in since they advertise a lifetime warranty(I now know just on the frame) and they stand behind their products. Well they told us they test everything and sent a YouTube video on how to fix (what they thought was wrong). When we expressed frustration they offered us $20 back to take it to a repair shop(which we never got). Well after being discouraged from riding it for two months we finally went to attempt to fix the issue. Of course to no avail. Now I have a $900 bike that I got busted and will have to pay more money to have fixed.
I couldn't be happier!
I'm extremely satisfied with my Detroit Bikes Sparrow. I wanted to buy a high quality bike to ride around my city and after much research decided on the Detroit Bikes Sparrow. I couldn't be happier. The price is competitive with others in it's class and it is also entirely assembled in the U.SA. I was surprised that the bike even came with extras like front and rear reflectors, a bell, and a pump. I'm very happy with my choice and look forward to riding this bike for many years to come!
I've had the Cortello for two years now…
I've had the Cortello for two years now and it's been just the right bike for rough (read undermaintained) streets and trail riding. the schwalbe tires are between a commuter and a gravel bike, making it good for either task (commuting or gravel trails). Smooth ride, brakes well, complaints if you're looking for a jack of all trades bike. I was among the last to get a pre-covid bike so no supply issues. DB did find an investor to help address the supply chain issues and there was no delay on the B Type commuter I purchased for my daughter (though personally I prefer the cortello).
Sparrow
Sparrow, Red/White. Beautiful bike. Easy to assemble, fun to ride. The bike is fast and easy to ride. My only changes was a new seat, and changed rear cog from 17 to 20 teeth. Speed is not my thing, easy riding is. My only complaint is, the bike is so pretty I do not want to get it dirty.
Best customer service I’ve ever had

Thanks Evan

Improve Customer Service
First time buying a bike online. Loved the looks, loved knowing that I was supporting a local business in Detroit, and loved the cost. When it arrived, all looked good. I was able to finish getting it together, with a little help from a local bike shop to tighten the handle bars. However, when I began riding, the interior side of the mud guard was grinding against the tire. I reached out to customer service, but received little guidance. At first, there was no response. After two months, I tried again to reach out, but they just told me I could bend the mudguard. It took trial and error on my part to solve the problem--without bending anything. My two cents: any online bike shop needs to have a robust customer service dept. to deal with the realities of shipping.
Outstanding Customer Service
While I haven't had the pleasure of riding their bikes yet, I can say that their customer service is top-notch. I was wanting to buy an A-type commuter and they're sold out. However, Chuck Nagy went through his records and found an A-Type Commuter that had not been paid for yet. He called me right away and allowed me to buy it. Because of finances, I wasn't able to. However, I am very impressed at the lengths they go to to take care of their customers and future customers.
After a couple of weeks of riding city…
After a couple of weeks of riding city streets to work I can attest that the U.S. Chromoly A-Type is a great commuter bike. I wanted a bike made in USA, so this was a perfect choice for me. The 8 gears allow me to traverse hills and flats efficiently, and it's at least as fast as other commuter bikes. The features are very nice from the rack to the bell, including a comfortable and sturdy saddle. Should be reliable for years of riding.
Perfect
This afternoon I received the medium Chromoly B Type in rose gold. It is elegant, every detail thought out, simple, understated. The color is timeless. Delivered in a large box, I simply moved the handlebars by hand and it was ready to ride, other than adjustments to fit me and to air up the tires a bit. A quick call to Detroit Bikes provided quick answers to do those thing (I hadn't been on a bike in twenty years). It was great to have it delivered and be out on a ride within an hour. The brakes are great, the gear change smooth. There is a strength about it, a feeling of dependability. It is solid, yet so elegant. Pretty. Very happy with this bike!
Bike arrived deeply scarred paint
Bike arrived deeply scarred paint, bent fender, bent wheel frame connection, missing items. A mechanic named Francisco texted me when I sent photos. Offered no resolve except to send touch up paint. Said he contacted the owner of the Company and refused to send a shipping box, said “we don’t supply boxes.” Owner said once we find a box it can be returned and another bike would come at the end of 2021. Worst customer service experience. I live in NYC and am proudly from Detroit. The owner is obviously, NOT a proud Detroiter. Bike is cool, Detroit Bike Company is not.

I put an order in for 2 type A commuter bikes...on for myself and one for my wife. I received mine first (2 weeks before hers) and immediately put it on the road. Great bike all around! My cycling is mainly slow but steady around a small town streets. I was stopped several times with inquiries about the bike and where I purchased it. I was impressed with the bike as well as the compliments on the bike. When we received my wife's bike, she was impressed with the ride and workmanship. We love our Detroit Bikes! Our local bike shop was impressed as well!
Ordered my bike in spring
Ordered my bike in spring. Received an email on October that it was at the store ready to be assembled and delivered. Still haven't received it. No responses from emails or voicemails. Worst customer service ever.

I wish I could give a review about my bike. But since I don’t have it yet I only ordered it in August told I would have it by the week of September 28 and it is now December 9 and every time I call I get no answer and I leave my name and number and never get a return call
Chromoly Cortello--One Sweet Ride
For reasons unrelated to Covid, I jumped on the "new-bike bandwagon" in the Spring. I fell in love with the Chromoly Cortello at first sight. I did my research. Bought it. Covid then put through DB into supply-chain hell, and the bike I was hoping to get in a week was...delayed. However, unlike so many others out in Virtual Retail Land, the founder started sending emails, first with apologies and ballpark guesstimates of delivery date, by category of bike, then updates. Complete transparency! How refreshing. So, A+ for customer service and satisfaction.
Then the bike arrived, and in fact it was a one-hex-key twist to being ready to ride. And it is every bit as cool looking as the pictures suggest (and blog-reviewers had said). Then, I took it for a spin. I'm no serious biker, and I've never spent four figures on a bike, so take this with a grain of salt, but this bike is smooth! The 1x10 drive train shifts like a dream, soft and smooth like a baby's bottom. The disc breaks are just as smooth--and firm when they need to be. As they say on their website, the bike feels solid but not heavy. And the attention to detail is amazing, right down to the tire air nozzle cap. I've been riding it now for a couple of weeks, putting 8-10 miles on it per day, mostly leisure rides with the wife on streets and sidewalks, but also taking the dogs on trails and fields. It handles both just fine. I am a happy customer.
EAGLE WINGED E SPARROW
Just received our E Sparrow (how awesome to get a "bike in a box"). 5 star customer service, craftsmanship/design, appearance and us knowing it's made in USA during a global pandamic simply gives hope for our future. Product is easy to use - works as advertised. Moves effortlessly like it has wings of an eagle - the E Sparrow makes getting outside easy, safe and fun! HIGHLY RECOMMEND Detroit Bikes!
