My experience with Certas Insurance
My experience with Certas Insurance, now operating under Desjardins, has been absolutely terrible. I have never dealt with such poor customer service from an insurance company.
According to the police report, the other driver was 100% at fault. However, the moment I told my adjuster that I wanted to take a cash settlement instead of repairing my vehicle, everything changed. I was told I was only entitled to 60% of the settlement and that I had to accept Certas’ appraisal rather than rely on my independent repair estimate. When I asked for a written explanation and the policy or legislation supporting this decision, I was ignored.
I have sent multiple messages over the past week. My adjuster has read them but has not responded to a single one. Being ignored while trying to understand my own claim is unacceptable and completely unprofessional.
I pay approximately $450 per month to insure two vehicles with this company, and this is the level of service I receive. They are quick to collect your premiums but extremely slow when it comes to communicating with customers and explaining claim decisions.
Instead of treating me fairly and answering legitimate questions, I felt pressured to simply accept their decision without any transparency. I have now been forced to escalate my complaint because my adjuster refuses to communicate.
If this is the level of claims service that Certas Insurance—now operating under Desjardins—provides, I cannot recommend them. There are many insurance companies that value their customers and communicate professionally during the claims process. Based on my experience, I strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere.
