I recently dealt with Debenhams car insurance and found the experience to be a mixed bag. While setting up the insurance was straightforward and their online portal is easy to navigate, I faced issues when changing my car details. Initially, the portal quoted an additional £200 fee, but I later received a letter demanding £600, which was very confusing. Customer service was not very helpful in resolving this discrepancy, leading to frustration. While their prices are competitive, my overall experience was affected by these issues.

Had to change my car details in May 2020 due to getting a new car. Rang them up which then they advised me to do it on the portal, i tried but no luck. Got told that over the phone they will charge me a fee to change & will be an extra of £600 but couldn't accept any payment over the phone at that time. i advised i will try the portal later that day. i redone it on the portal and it only came up to £200 extra (difference was mental), so i paid and everything went through great. A week later, i received a letter which read that i would need to pay the £600 that was discussed on the phone. i rang them up and advised i actually completed and paid through the portal and i was advised to ignore the letter as they could see on the system everything went through. Skip 5 months and we're now in October. i get a letter to advise that i owe them £400. i ring and advise it was wrong due to do doing it on the portal. they said they will investigate. i rang them every single day for 3 weeks with an update for them to say they cant find the phone recordings, the customer service was no help even when getting advise from their "manager" but saying that i will have to pay because that is what i agreed to on the phone the first time. funny how they managed to relate to that phone recording when they couldn't find the rest with them advising it was all sorted & fine through the portal! Would much rather pay £100 more to go with another company than go with these again, no matter how "cheap" the insurance is on the compare sites as they will only try and get more money out of you in different ways.

All was fine until got a email saying the car was dual insured explained that the car written off due to another party fault and got send to scrappage company asked me to send proof so did . Then got a email saying it was going to a underwriter to get a reply saying it was canceled 3months payments just under £300 and all I get back is £70 due to fees load of crap .stay away from them

Told me I couldn't insure with them anymore due to my age even though I had been with them for over 11 months. Disgusting how these UK insurance companies operate.

Worst insurance ever!! I took out a policy at £1.5k which isn’t a cheap policy and the next day conveniently someone rang and said an accident had happened - but we weren’t notified till 2 weeks after the fact with no information and blamed the fact that the person claiming had a lawyer and they weren’t talking to a insurance provider. The whole insurance and claims are a scam - I complained after them taking a statement and sending a third party to check my car for damage (car had no damage but had paint splats - new cars come like this form the showroom but we were told this means we’re guilty) and no one contacted me again about this so called accident!!! It’s a big scam and I would not recommend you’re better off having no insurance what company tried to scam their own clients!!!

So far so good. Very good online service. Very competitive prices. Will recommend.

Disgraceful company. I cancelled my car insurance 4 months early and was actually charged an additional amount rather than having the remainder of the policy refunded.
Its basically theft of money for zero reason.
After several calls/emails from them they claim it is perfectly correct to charge more than 12 months insurance when you cancel after 8 months. You couldnt make it up!

I had someone drive into my car while it was parked up at my house, I have a independent witness. The police have found the Man and its going to court, after being hit the engine manifold crack and car wasn't driveable ever again but the only way I can make a claim is to claim off MY OWN INSURANCE FIRST THEN THEY WILL ATTEMPT TO RECOVER FROM HIS INSURANCE. What do I pay insurance for if I'm claiming from myself. Doesn't make sense, is this even legal. ????

Honestly this is the worst insurance I have ever had and further more definitely for money laudering or similar reasons they have closed the company while I was with them and passed it over to vavista. Anyway when you need to get in touch with them God forbit how bad their service is and they are so greedy if you do not pay attention they would charge you even for calling them to ask a question…lol
I would never ever use this company again just cancelled my policy with them and felt relieved!

They giving policies to other company called vivista. Absolutely scam. Just terrible insurance if you want cancel or change something. Charged money after I cancelled and after sent another bill to pay. To cancel my policy cost me 4 months insurance price. Just terrible experience. Please avoid them

Not a problem until I wanted to change vehicle. Two months left on policy. Car change from peugeot 106 to peugeot 107. To cancel policy £75. To change vehicle £82 for two months cover. Both cars very low insurance group. Original 12 month policy cost only £126. The admin charges are such an exorbitant price. Once I had said that original car had been scraped I had no choice because they would automatically cancel policy and charged the £75 anyway. Should not have told the truth and just let the policy run out, the no claims would have completed and clocked up another year. I can see there should be a fee for changes but these admin charges are a complete ripoff.

This insurance company is a scam they tried to rob money from me and now my car is stolen and they are not even doing anything on my claim i have paid them so much to insured my car and it has been more than two months on my claim did not give me courtesy car and i have provided every information they have asked from me and still this insurance company is taking the so long bad service

Took car insurance out with these and had no problems, 2nd year, happy with the price but have just had an accident 2 days ago, I am trying to put this through my insurance and getting the run around, the car is still in the pound and been contacted by several different people, after some phone calls explaining all again I am now having to answer the same questions from other people (Lewis Palmer at Davies Motor) Lewis took all the details and that he would speak with head office to have the car removed from the pound and would all be in hand then (Paul Burke at Xsdirect) send an email asking for same information. Was unsure why my insurance was under Debenhams but having to deal with all these different people. Having looked at trust pilot under xs direct I see that they are scammers and I am beginning to worry about what will happen with my claim as the car is still under finance and looking at the reviews it’s like they are scammers. Debenhams sort this out please. I only had the accident the other day and the last thing I need is further stress.

Had no problem with them till I sold my car I knew I’d have to pay admin fee but I could charged £327 just because I got rid of my car never again

Not helpful at all, unable to define the difference between personal business insurance or business insurance. Wanted me to make the decision even though I wasn't able to get the full facts. Educating the staff is required.
