I’ve been with DEA for a while, and it has been the right choice for me. Data Engineering requires many skills — SQL, Python, AWS, Snowflake, Spark, dbt, and more — and DEA’s materials make these... See more

I joined to refine my skillset and understanding of data engineering in preparation for a lateral move. The trainings have been great, the learning modules are focused, and the support has been great. I'd recommend this for anybody that wants to transition into data engineering.
I signed up with Data engineering academy for the below reasons
A) to get up to speed with the latest data engineering best practices and the trends
B) To help steer my career towards AI/Data engineering route that best leveraged my current skills and also positioned me to work on the best plstforms with great companies
I signed up in Sept 2025 and took advantage of the group coaching as well as individual sessions from various DE members that helped me better position myself
Data engineering also helped me position myself for target companies and this helped me land a job that more than met my salary expectations as well as positioned me in a role that allows me to learn and maximizes my chance for success
Cristian Mamota Was my success coach at DEA and he is basically the reason I was able to stay refocus and keep pushing myself to achieve the goal I set out for myself because he has been the backbone support of my progress through DEA’s program and I want to say thank you to him and everyone who has helped me throughout this journey so far.
Before joining Data Engineer Academy, I was motivated to transition into data engineering but had uncertainty around where to start and how to build real, job-ready skills. The field felt overwhelming, and I wasn’t sure how to bridge the gap between theory and practical experience.
What stood out most about DE Academy was the structure of the program and the level of support. The curriculum is well thought out and focused on real-world applications, which made a big difference. The coaches and mentors have been extremely helpful always available to provide guidance, clarify concepts, and offer career advice. That level of support made the learning process much more manageable and effective.
Since joining, I’ve developed a much stronger foundation in data engineering concepts and tools, and I now feel significantly more confident in my ability to pursue opportunities in this field. I’m actively building skills that align with industry expectations.
I would recommend DE Academy to anyone serious about breaking into a data career. The combination of practical learning and strong mentorship makes it a valuable investment and, for me, a true game-changer in my career path.
Hello data engineer enthusiasts,
My journey with Data Engineer Academy is just a month. My experience thus far is realistic and aligned to my career. I was quite skeptic in the beginneing, but conversation with Chris and the subject matter experts cleared that cloud. I am hoping to land my dream job soon.
Shamar never gave up on me he was determined to get me into the program that I desire and I truly appreciate it.
I recognize the hustle of an aspiring salesman/business owner, but definitely don't recognize any data engineering skills/experience Chris has. I think he does too, that's why he's outsourced the majority of the technical work to cheap labor in India and Easter European countries. Some of these individuals have actual experience, but there is a language barrier oftentimes and I found it difficult to understand what they were saying.
In terms of deliverables, they do their best to make good on their promises of providing coursework, projects, and getting interviews, but the landscape of data engineering is so vast that it's honestly really challenging to cover it all. Companies can look for a huge range of skillsets and DEA tries to cover it all, but in actuality it comes down to luck when you're interviewing with companies if you happen to have experience in their tech stack and happen to be the kind of interviewee they're looking for.
The way they finagle their way to getting you interviews is by inflating your resume with keywords and experiences you've never actually had. (e.g. make you lie on your resume). I've heard many fellow students with similar experience as well, where we are able to get interviews, but don't actually have the experience to back it up, just a shitty project we did with DEA. What companies actually are looking for are how you solve problems not if you've used XYZ orchestration framework. Since this is just coursework, following instructions on meaningless data, you're not going to get that.
In short, not worth the money. They can't guarantee you a job. Their content is subpar (all outsourced). Sure, they can apply for jobs for you, but are you actually willing to pay someone 15-20k to apply to jobs for you? Maybe? If so, that's why I gave it 2 stars. They offer what they say, they do deliver on some things, but in the end, it's a business. They are trying to get money out of you. e.g. you pay upfront. OH YEAH, their 'financing' plan is utterly laughable. They essentially tell you to open up a credit card to pay for their program. That in itself shows how predatory they are. "Go into debt so you can pay us".
Everyone in the company I had interaction is very helpful and receptive and sound like very committed to have me successful in my goals. program is built to make me succeed by lot of resources and practice the real-time questions for interview.
I am feeling very good so far.
The program is challenging and requires a lot of work and commitment. But the good news is that coaches are with you all the way. My new coach Monicah is amazing; she is been very helpful and kind a motivate me without even realize it. I still have a long way to go to complete the program but will recommend it to anyone who wants to take a step forward for a career change.
The encouragement and assistance along with all the available training have been great
My experience with the DE Academy has been good so far. My success coach designed a custom and structured plan to improve the skills needed for a data analyst. Mock interviews and the feedback are really helpful.
Data Engineering Academy has opened the door for me to move from confusion to clarity.
Their training approach is helping me become a job-ready professional. The support from the success coach has been a major enabler in my journey—they make me feel welcome in the program, provide clear guidance, and connect me with valuable resources.
I feel confident in what I am learning. The content is aligned with the labor market, and I especially appreciate the strong focus on hands-on practice, real-world projects, mock interviews, and labs.
I really want to highlight how incredibly helpful it has been to have a team of SME's that help you prepare for interviews and the role! I want to give a shout out to Yash for always being available to help me do last minute prep work for interviews.
I had an excellent experience with Melinda Malida.
She took the time to explain everything clearly and helped me resolve my issue. We scheduled a meeting, and I'll also be meeting with my student coordinator to make a plan moving forward.
I'm determined to pass these courses because I've been struggling with a lot of anxiety from my current job. I work as a security guard and often have to deal with toxic, emotionally challenging situations - people yelling and being very difficult. That's not where want to be for the rest of my life. need to be mentally strong to handle that environment, but my goal is to move into remote tech work so I can find peace and stability.
Thanks to the support received from Melinda and the academy, I'm motivated to continue learning SQL and Python. I'll do my best, with God's grace, to succeed. I highly appreciate the help

I’m currently enrolled in Data Engineering Academy and it’s been a great experience so far. The program focuses on real-world, hands-on learning and breaks down complex data engineering concepts into practical skills. I’ve been strengthening my skills in SQL, data modeling, and PySpark while working on real-world projects using Databricks, AWS, and Snowflake. The practice FAANG-style problems are broken down clearly by instructors who are patient and genuinely want to see you succeed. There are also plenty of opportunities for interview prep, including mock interviews that really help build confidence. Overall, it’s helping me level up and prepare for real data engineering roles.
I had been wanting to shift career from Software Developer to Data Engineering since 2021. However, I clearly did not have a clear view of how to do it.
Then, early this year, I came across this post on Facebook for people who want to switch careers to Data Engineering. I saved the post and went over it a couple of times. I was really interested but at the same time, hesitant, considering there are a lot of scam programs out there. I did my own research about the academy, and I found a lot of good reviews.
So, I signed up.
Soon after I signed up, a representative from DEA (Kevin Hu) called me and gave me valuable information about the program and how it helped a lot of people. He’s personable and easy to speak with. He was able to answer all my questions, cleared my doubts and motivated me that in the end, I decided to join DEA.
Next was my meeting with Neha Bohra, one of DEA’s Technical CSM. She patiently guided me through my Personalized Plan (as I had a lot of questions. 😀), helped me set up apps and access to Skool, Slack, and DEA websites. She’s very helpful, and motivating as well.
Prior to starting the courses were inspirational videos that will give you the necessary mindset. Students were also provided key points on how to improve our resumes and how to answer interview questions.
During the course of my SQL lessons, I encountered troubles in some areas. I communicated with the team all these questions and doubts through our Slack channel, and there is always someone to help.
After completing my SQL courses, I went through a series of mock tests. Conducted by both Manaswini and Neha Bohra. At first, I was nervous, thinking that I would be judged, if ever I did not pass the tests. On the contrary, both are helpful and supportive. The succeeding mock tests were more relaxed. They provided feedback and suggestions on how to improve my skills more.
I still have a long way to go, so far, I have had nothing, but good experiences with DEA.
For now, I have managed to complete my SQL courses. Before joining, I thought I already knew enough. While taking the course, I realized that it is not so. However, through DEA’s lessons and lots of practice questions, I feel that I am now more confident in my SQL skills.
I would recommend DEA because first, it is not a scam. I feel that they are true to what they are promising, that is, to help us land a job in Data Engineering. But of course, we also must do our parts.
I’ve had a really positive experience with this data engineering academy. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed, with a strong focus on practical, real-world applications rather than just theory. It’s been great for building hands-on skills and understanding how things actually work in the industry.
Also want to give a shoutout to my CSM advisor, Yash, who has been very approachable and supportive throughout. He regularly checks in, provides helpful guidance, and makes sure I’m progressing in the right direction.
Definitely recommend it to anyone serious about getting into data engineering.
My experience with DEA has been excellent! The coaches are very helpful and they stick with you ever step of the way. The modules that are available really helped me understand the engineering side of data a lot better. My coach Ryan was able to take concepts that were hard for me to grasp, and break them down so that I had a better understanding of the logic, and reasoning behind whatever it was I was doing.
I joined Data Engineering Academy with the goal of strengthening my data analytics skills and becoming more confident in applying them to real-world scenarios—and overall, it has been a really valuable experience.
What I appreciated the most was how practical the program is. Instead of just focusing on theory, it emphasizes hands-on learning with tools like SQL, Python, and building data pipelines. Working on projects helped me understand how things actually work in a real business context, which made a big difference in my confidence.
