I found this service to be well worth the money and a great way to establish what the issues are. Simon was meticulous and data driven which makes the service very different to the usual take a guess approach from trades people. His communication was clear and concise and his expertise very evident. I would highly recommend this service.

I highly recommend Damp Surveys Ltd. Their methodology is precise, thorough and authoritative, which helped me to understand the causes of the damp in my property and the necessary steps I needed to take in order to remedy it.

Damp Surveys Ltd provided a detailed and thorough report, which gave the results of their analysis and subsequent recommendations. I felt I was guided by someone with great knowledge and experience. It is worth every penny.

I had discovered mould in a bedroom in my ground floor flat. It appeared initially just above the skirting boards but was clearly worsening and spreading upwards.

After initially searching for specialist builders and damp proofing companies I found details and excellent reviews for Damp Surveys, and arranged a site visit and survey.

The survey was done to the agreed schedule and budget. Simon arrived on time (to the minute!), and was careful, considerate and helpful throughout the visit. He went above and beyond what I'd expected, fixing a couple of problems there and then.

Communication was clear and consistent prior to the visit, during the visit and afterwards. Emails were answered promptly.

With the help, advice and very detailed report I received, I'm able to manage the situation myself and currently have no signs of damp or mould at all. I don't need the services of a builder or damp proofing contractor. It's difficult to calculate how much money I've saved (my guess is a LOT) because I didn't get as far as seeking quotations, but I consider the Damp Surveys fees excellent value for money – an investment even.

Simon provided a very prompt and detailed assessment of our damp wall (house bombed during the war). After having spent many months trying to figure out the cause of our damp and receiving various quotes for works to be carried out it was great to finally find someone who was independent and had the extensive required to identify the root causes of our problem. Simon has likely saved us tens of thousands of pounds and we are so glad to have found him!

This review has been posted months after receiving Mr Hichens' report (apologies). I think this is partly because it has taken some time to really appreciate the significance of his visit and analysis. There were a number of issues in my property, all of which Simon identified and for which he suggested cost-effective solutions. However, the main benefit of a "Simon visit" is that - you will inevitably start to think like him! I am now slightly obsessive about drainage, ventilation, data loggers, cracks and repairs.

For example, my cellar space which was dingy and damp has had more airbricks installed and is now airy and well-lit; and the worrying patch of damp on one of the beams has completely dried out. Another example was an external gully which was in poor condition with a visible crack (I hadn't even noticed this..); I got a plasterer to sort it out and it now functions perfectly.

I've gone beyond Simon's recommendations but to date have spent less than £2,000 and that includes the cost of Simon's survey which was only a few hundred pounds. I consider that commissioning this damp survey represented an excellent investment, and have pleasure in recommending Damp Surveys. Not only will you avoid wasting money on unnecessary work, but I promise you will learn LOADS about damp (and possibly develop quite a fond and respectful relationship with it..!!)

Simon carried out a very thorough survey, not only the area of the problem of a damp-looking patch on a wall, but all parts of our house.
This was followed with an excellent very full report, addressing the problem and giving us guidance to solving it.
We have complete confidence in the information we have been given, and are happy we do not need more scaffolding on the outside of the house. All can be tackled inside the house in a very straightforward way.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Simon to investigate any damp problem.

Having a damp survey completed by Simon has been a game changer. We had suffered from a smell of damp for several months, it was unpleasant and troubling but there was no sign of damp until some black mould appeared around the front door. Simon came and investigated what might be causing the damp. He was thorough, interested, keen to explain and gave us lots of good advice while he was with us and in the damp report with which he followed up. Following his advice has solved the damp problem in my home. The damp smell has gone and I could not be happier. I do not hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend Simon and Damp Surveys.

I thought I had rising damp so contacted a few companies. I had a couple of quotes, ranging in from 10k to just over 1k. I also had a few more damp specialists over to take a look.

Simon gave a thorough survey, taking time to explain what he was doing and why. He also gave some recommendations. None of them costing anywhere near 10k (and the problem wasn’t rising damp)

If you suspect rising damp, spend a few pounds if you can, and hire Simon. He may just save you a fortune in the long term as well as getting to the root cause.

If you have damp issues your best move is to call Damp Surveys for an impartial survey. We had some issues with an inherited property and Simon thoroughly investigated, explained along the way how they arise, fixed one significant issue on the spot, and gave practical advice to deal with the different causes. His report followed swiftly with more detail and advice included not only actions to take but tips on product options and ballpark potential costs. Exactly what we wanted and beyond what we had received from previous more expensive surveys. The knowledge is invaluable in saving you bigger costs and actually getting to the root causes to fix your problems. Recommended without hesitation.

Damp survey ltd undertook a survey april 2022. I found the service methodical and Simon is highly knowledgable, also happy to give simple tips along the way. The damp report is detailed, precise and action focussed which is exactly what I required. Recommend these services without hesitation.

Simon's report was extremely detailed and helpful in reducing damp issues in my house. Some of the recommendations he made I implemented and they had an effect immediately. He was also very patient in explaining the science behind the damp problems and his analysis. He has saved me thousands of pounds from not getting expensive damp treatment works!
