I had a seriously dangerous experience with Cycle King.

I brought my e-bike to them for an E-Bike Service (£76) and also supplied a brand-new brake system for them to install. They agreed to fit it for around £50.

When I first came to collect the bike, it was clearly not right. Only part of the new brake system had been installed, while parts of the old system were still left on the bike. There were also unresolved issues, and the bike looked worse than before the service. I did not confirm that I was satisfied with the work. I challenged the condition of the bike and contacted their customer support.

Customer support then said the repair would be completed properly. When I came back again, the brakes still did not feel right and warning indicators were showing on the display. I was told this was because the new system needed time to “bed in”.

The next day, I had to brake suddenly on the road. I fully pressed both brake levers, but the brakes barely worked. The bike took around 10 metres to stop and I only avoided a serious accident by luck. This was not a minor issue — this was a serious safety risk.

When I reported this to Cycle King, they replied that the repair had been completed correctly and claimed that I had inspected the bike and confirmed I was satisfied on collection. That statement is false. I never confirmed that I was satisfied with an unsafe braking system.

They then refused to take any further action and simply told me I could “escalate the matter how I see fit”. They also refused to provide the information I need to proceed with a legal claim against the store.

In my opinion, their response is disgraceful. A bike shop working on brakes has a basic responsibility to return a bike in a safe roadworthy condition. Instead, I was left with weak brakes, warning indicators, a dangerous road incident, and a dismissive email afterwards.

I would not recommend Cycle King to anyone. I especially would not trust them with e-bike servicing, brakes, or any safety-critical repair.

Avoid. This could have ended very badly.

Lovely service from start to finish. From the order being confirmed to the bike being built the staff were polite and kept very good communication. The lovely gentleman working the day of collection even stayed slightly later to ensure my son’s bike could be collected in time for his birthday due to my husband being stuck in traffic.
Lovely bike, my son absolutely loves it. Would definitely use the company again and would recommend to anybody looking at getting a bike.

I got excellent service from Cycle King when I picked up my new trike. They adjusted the handlebars so that I can ride comfortably and installed the mirrors to enable me to keep safe while I am riding around Oxford.

Excellent customer service very informative and very welcoming and they showed me and gave me all the information i needed which made my collection very easy.

Fantastic staff, very helpful and immediate help and support, took my daughter bike in for a brake problem and they sorted it there and then, highly recommend. Will definately go back! Thank you so much

The guys in here couldn’t do enough for you. Bought a bike and had a problem with the kick stand and went in and they sorted it out there and then. Always happy to help and that kind of customer service is rare these days.

Really great service all round. They called to tell me there was a chance of a delivery delay and offered the opportunity to change the bike. My grandson has set his heart on that one so was happy to wait. They told me the 2 possible dates and it arrived on the second one. Received a text to say it had arrived and we collected it that day. Really nice staff who explained about warranty and service etc.

Excellent service built bike collected no problems

Quick contact after online ordering informing me my bike was ready to collect. Friendly, helpful staff who demonstrated the folding of my bike and altered it to fit me. Good information about follow up servicing too.
Only negative was lack of space outside the shop to try it out.

Good price, prompt delivery and as described.

I had an issue with my bike and it was dealt with within ten minutes and payment was refused.

Bought an electric trike from here, the staff were amazing.

The man who served me spent ages helping me work out the best lights to fit to it, fitted them for me before i left and made sure I had everything I need. Helped me out the shop then when I had a little trouble getting going outside the shop (coz Ive never ridden one before and its a lot wider and heavier than a normal bike) the guy came back out the shop to check i was ok.

Different member of staff on the phone the night before had reserved it for me and made sure all the safety checks were done before I got there to pick it up, even charged the battery up so i could ride it home.
