Evaporust is disappointingly a very expensive item that does not do what the makers claim…
I have been restoring and renovating classic cars for over 40 years, firstly as a business and later as a hobby. I have restored classic cars to condition one, and have renovated cars to concourse and these cars have won numerous prizes. I had some rusted brake and suspension parts on a car I am rejuvenating at present and have not got a grit blasting cabinete at the moment. After seeing Evaporust on YouTube videos and other restoration shows it looked good so I thought I would give it a go. Very disappointed with the results. I have used hydrochloric and phosphoric acids in the past to remove rust completely from suspension parts, and on opening the evaporust I did smell a slight odor of mild acid. I have also used a product called Jenolite that is a very mild phosphoric acid and works well on very lightly rusted items so I believed evaporust is a mild phosphoric acid. After the parts had been soaking for eight hours the orange rust colour had gone. After 12 hours I could see shinny steel in places. After 24 houre I removed the parts to examin but still found pitted black rust. I submerged the items again and after a further 24 hours I removed and rinsed the parts, dried properly and examined. It had not removed all the rust. Black pitted rust still remained. Basically CRC -- the manufacturer's claim that it removes all rust is a lie. The product was very expensive at €60 for 5 litres and it did not work. Restorers should not waste their time and money with evaporust, but invest in a better solution as in a blast cabinate or one of the strong acids I have mentioned.I have taken 'photos of the items but there was now way to show these on Trust Pilot.
