Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 412 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the subscription model, finding that payments were taken unexpectedly or that free trials converted into paid subscriptions without clear notification. Customers frequently reported issues with payments, including being charged incorrectly or for services they did not intend to use. The customer service was a major point of frustration, with many describing it as unhelpful, unresponsive, and difficult to reach a real person. Reviewers also struggled to obtain refunds, often being denied even when they felt the charges were unwarranted or the service unused. Additionally, the website itself was criticized for being misleading about subscriptions and for having broken links or inaccessible content.

Just another example of the summary…

Just another example of the summary above. The support team is ineffective to the point of me thinking it genuinely is just another AI bot instead of an actual person. A technical glitch resulted in me being unable to access my account for over a year. Will be finding every option within my power to get my money back.

Charged twice and refund refused

I had a very disappointing experience with Coursera’s billing and customer support.

I was charged twice (£36 x2) for a monthly subscription despite my account being shut down and the service not being available to me. I contacted support to resolve the issue and requested a refund, providing clear details of the duplicate charge.

Unfortunately, the response was unhelpful and my request for a refund was refused. I then sent a further email asking them to review the situation before I escalated the matter, but I did not receive a response and they closed the call

As a result, I was forced to raise a chargeback through my credit card provider, which I would have preferred to avoid.

Based on this experience, I would strongly advise others to:
• Monitor billing carefully
• Keep records of any support interactions
• Be cautious with subscription renewals
This experience has significantly reduced my confidence in Coursera’s billing and customer support processes.

Con-artists.

Completed a certification course on a coursera-plus free-trail. When I went to collect the certificate, i was told i needed coursera-plus (which I had cause my free-trail was still active). What it failed to mention was that I needed the "paid" coursera-plus membership to collect it, so upon collecting my certificate, I was charged 67 dollars for the paid membership. When I reached out to customer-support, I was told this was non-refundable. Not once was i warned about being charged, yet apparently my "upgrade" to the paid version was considered "voluntary," and therefore, non-refundable. All of their information about what is included in free-trials and what you have to pay for and when you are charged is super vague and intentionally hidden/made hard to access. What a bunch of con-artists.

Dogsh*t service

Dogsh*t service. Almost non existent. Plus it’s a scam, you pay a subscription and cancel which is still active till the duration but if you want to do any other course or get your certificate you have to pay all over again even though you still have an active account

Zero Support, Broken System – Not Trustworthy Anymore

I recompiled all tasks on my local machine and uploaded them multiple times, yet the system still fails to process the submission. This is extremely frustrating and shows how unreliable this platform can be.

Coursera is wasting users’ valuable time with repeated technical failures and zero accountability. Instead of learning, you end up stuck fighting broken systems.

I have other courses and deadlines, and I simply cannot afford these constant disruptions. Either fix your platform properly or provide a reliable alternative way to submit work.

This experience is completely unacceptable. If you value your time, think twice before relying on this platform.

This company is a total scam

This company is impossible to contact. This is done intentionally so you are unable to cancel their service. I have been attempting to cancel this service for several months. They never responded until today telling me to contact my credit card company if I think I am getting scammed to cancel my card. I've cancelled my card but their charge continues to show up on my statement. This is because they are showing the bank that I signed up for their service. So the charges continue unabated. This is theft on their part but they couldn't care less. Do not buy anything from Coursera. You will be paying them forever.

I do not recall signing up for annual service. Today 2/19 when looking at my new credit card statement I saw a charge for 399.00 on 1/26/2026. I contacted them and was told a request for refund had to occur within 14 days of the charge. Since I did not see it until I received statement it was passed the 14 days. So no refund. I have never used the service and have not logged in to the account in 12 months. They can clearly see the service has never been used.

This is a horrible company! Do not trust them. I purchased this in error via Klarna. My account is being charged for $150 in total and I have contacted customer service without any help. It is illegal to charge for service the customer hasn't received. I haven't been able to get any help!

Total scam

Total scam, no stars. They charged me and didn't provide a refund when I requested saying I was not eligible even though I never used the "service." I later got an email saying my complaint had been taken to management. It's been over a month and I never heard back. It was all performative. They try to get any money out of you. Don't care if you have a bad customer service. Poor service and i Don't recommend them from this experience.

Bait and Switch tactics used

I thought I was signing up for Coursera, but it was just a specific course. They charged me $49 for a subscription to a course I finished during the free trial window. Apparently, to get unlimited courses, you have to sign up for a spearate subscription - which makes no sense unless they are trying to deceive you. So now to do any more courses, I have to sign up for another subscription and pay double. Their Customer service kept closing my case after 1 or 2 messages back and forth not even dealing with the issue - I assume this is a common occurence because I see a lot of people on line making the same mistake.

Avoid at all costs!

The worst customer service I have ever experienced! If you haven't subscribed or registered for a course already, do not!! Use Ai, buy a book, speak to a friend, go to uni. Do absolutely anything possible to avoid this being the way you choose to learn. They are awful!

Coursera is a giant scam

Coursera team does not make it easy to contact them or request a refund. They purposely run you around in circles with the AI until it’s too late to get a refund. There is no phone number or email address to get your questions addressed. You have to wait for a human response only after your AI agent fails to repeatedly help. They refused to let me speak to someone over the phone. This is absolutely ridiculous how the company plans to run things. I will not be recommending or using this company again. Terrible customer service.

I signed up for a free trial of a specialization and cancelled during the trial period. Despite this, Coursera continued charging my card $79 per month for approximately eight months.

When I discovered the charges and contacted support, I was met with scripted responses, policy copy-pasting, and zero accountability. Even after escalation to a supervisor, they refused to refund the charges, stating that “lack of usage” and “unintended subscription” are not valid reasons, ignoring the fact that I had intended to cancel during the trial.

The case was then closed without resolution.

This is not about forgetting to cancel, it’s about recurring billing continuing despite cancellation intent and no meaningful usage. The customer service experience was rigid, dismissive, and entirely policy-driven rather than solution-oriented.

Be very careful with free trials here. Monitor your card closely.

I am extremely disappointed with Coursera's refund policy and support. I haven't used the service since January 15th, and despite reaching out within the eligible period (before Feb 11th), I was unable to process a refund because their support was too slow to respond.
Other major services like Netflix or Spotify always respect consumer rights and provide refunds for unused subscriptions if a user forgets to cancel. Coursera, however, is choosing to keep money for a service that was never rendered. Charging a customer when there has been zero activity on the account is an unfair business practice.
I demand a manual refund for my unused subscription. My support ticket is 05998934
