Lovely place to stay

Met with friendly professional reception staff, fabulous room clean and warm looking out onto fields.
Haven’t tried restaurant so can’t comment would have been nice to walk out to restaurants etc but being ultra picky. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

We have just returned from a 2 day golf trip, from the initial booking to our stay, I must say that the staff accommodation and restaurant was very good and the course a great challenge.

Just spent 4 days at this hotel playing golf. The hotel is nowhere near a 4 star hotel. Rooms are sufficient, cleaned daily. Normal facilities in rooms. Food was on a buffet basis. Breakfast was OK although if you arrived later than 15 mins of restaurant opening the food was dry. Have to ask for fried or poached eggs. Scrambled eggs unappealing. Evening meals were limited choice especially if vegetarian. Just potato and one or two veg.
The golf course is advertised as third best in Oxfordshire. Probably should be worst in the county. Lack of investment and green keeping ability. Bumpy greens, shaved in some parts, fluffy in others. Holes left in middle of green with temp covers and grass allowed to grow round them. Bunkers unraked before start of play.
All in all not worth visiting.

Cotswolds hotel and spa woe

Good points. Nice spacious room and bathroom. Adequate breakfast, nice golf course. Bad points. We had to start golf round at tenth tee. Loads of four ballers to slow your progress. Dinner… don’t bother, and definitely don’t pay for it in advance as a dinner bed and breakfast deal for £394.00 as we did. Evening meal is woeful. We have had much better school dinners. Bland, extremely limited choice, re used re heated left overs we thought. Bitterly disappointing to put it mildly. Also, there is no spa, pool, just a little room where the do a few treatments. All in all, this place is a cheap lemonade drink, but with a champagne price tag. The Staff tried to compensate for the lack, and no disrespect to them, but sadly a sticky plaster on an amputation just doesn't do it. Needless to say, we definitely will not be going back,,, ever.

If I could have given zero stars I…

If I could have given zero stars I would !
Had a booking here today that was booked 3 months ago for me and a friend who I don’t see very often so it was a treat for us both.
She has unfortunately been struck done by an awful tummy bug so I called the hotel yesterday to see if we could rearrange our stay. Was told I would have to call back this morning which I did and after numerous emails and hours of my day wasted the reservations manager refused to let us change the booking and just kept banging on about the 72 hour cancellation policy and because I had left it til the day they couldn’t do anything for us!!! I explained that sickness can’t be pre planned and that this was a trip we had saved for and couldn’t afford to book it again if we lost the money this time. That manager could of let us rearrange our trip at his own discretion but instead point blank refused even when I said my friend would drag herself there to not lose our money and that this would put staff and other guests at risk of catching the bug she has.
In the end he tried to say we could rearrange the booking at a cost of a £95 admin fee!!! The original booking was only £140 so I don’t know on what planet he thought that was acceptable!!!
He was more than happy to have us turn up today with my friend vomiting with no thought for his staff or other guests than just let us rearrange to which I told him he may want to review his health and safety policy as knowingly allowing someone to come to the hotel with the norovirus was negligent.
Very poor customer service, I did all I could as soon as my friend became unwell.
Utterly disgusted by his attitude and lack of flexibility or compassion.
I would never give this hotel my business again.

This is not a spa it is a golf hotel

This is not a spa it is a golf hotel. We didn't eat here. The room was clean and comfortable but the layout of the hotel and the rooms is all a bit odd. Think premier inn for golfers and you won't be disappointed.

Not a good experience to say the…

Not a good experience to say the least!!!
We booked for a 3 day 2 night stay and arrived on the Monday afternoon. Check in was ok but the place did look like it was in need of a bit of a lift. The evening meal was ok but we told ourselves it was a golf club!!
The Tuesday was my birthday and we went out to tour part of the Cotswolds for the day but were back in plenty of time for dinner which was booked at 7. What a nightmare……
Our order was finally taken at 7.20 by the waiter who was obviously rushed off his feet and the meal arrived some 20 minutes later, and it was awful. The steak was almost all fat and not cooked particularly well, but trying to get the attention of anyone was a nightmare. At 8.10 I finally found someone to speak to and informed them about the meal and that no one had been to clear the plates and take our sweet order. The sweets finally arrived at 8.40pm, some 1 hour and 40 minutes after sitting down. We finished these and went to the bar. we had just got our drinks only for the illusion waiter to appear and tell us we had not paid for our meal and present us with a bill for £60, if only he had been as attentive at the table.
We informed him that the meal was part of our paid stay and he scuttled away in embarrassment.
On the day of leaving, my wife had booked us both a massage, she going first at 10.00am. By 10.15 no one had arrived and my wife went to speak to someone at reception, only for the massive to appear with a plate full of breakfast, saying she knew nothing of the appointment.
At this point we cancelled both treatments. we packed and spoke to the senior person at reception, who admittedly refunded the massages under duress and said that she would investigate the issue with them assure. The explanation regarding the meal on the previous evening she said that they were busy.

Overall our experience here was not a good one and not one we would want to repeat. The hotel state that they are a four star, but that is questionable.

We stayed here as a golf break

We stayed here as a golf break . When I went to collect the key, the receptionist Melina noticed I was on crutches after breaking my hip and she offered to change our room so it was closer to the amenities. I did not ask for this , so I was very impressed . She put my case in the room and locked my car . Later I went to reception to meet a friend and Fia put extra cushions on the chair for me to wait . I would certainly stay here again as the staff were very helpful and friendly . Thank you The Cotswolds Hotel and Spa.

Welsh golf club Senior golfers 3 day stay

We were a group of 28 senior golfers, our trip was 2 nights and 3 rounds of Golf on a bed, breakfast and dinner deal. Nothing was too much trouble, staff were exceptional and the course was in very good condition.

The menu and standard of food was also very high. We were pleased with the discounts on drinks at the bar too.

Our Buggies were lined up and ready for our Tee times. Nearest pin/longest drive markers were put out ready each morning too.

Members would be more than happy to return in the future.

Extremely Disappointed: Inconsistent Pricing and Awful Food Ruined Our Wedding day

I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at this hotel for a wedding, and I must say, I was utterly disappointed. From the inconsistent pricing to the abysmal quality of the food at the wedding, this hotel failed to meet even the most basic expectations. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this wedding venue or hotel to anyone.

First and foremost, let's address the issue of pricing. It came to my attention that some of the wedding stayers were able to secure rooms at a mere half the price that the rest of us paid for the same accommodations. This blatant disparity in pricing left a bitter taste in our mouths and made us question the hotel's integrity. It's simply unacceptable to treat guests in such a discriminatory manner, especially when they are there to celebrate a momentous occasion like a wedding.

To add insult to injury, the quality of the food served at the wedding was shockingly poor. It was evident that no effort was put into creating a memorable culinary experience for the guests. The dishes were tasteless, lacking in variety, and poorly presented. We had expected a delicious feast to celebrate the newlyweds' special day, but what we got was an underwhelming and forgettable meal. The hotel's inability to deliver satisfactory food further highlights their lack of attention to detail.

In conclusion, my stay at the hotel for the wedding was an absolute disappointment. The hotel's inconsistent pricing, coupled with the terrible quality of the food, left a lasting negative impression. I strongly advise against choosing this venue for any special event or even for a regular stay. There are numerous other options available that will provide a much better experience. Save yourself the frustration and avoid at all costs.

Enjoyed many rounds here

Enjoyed many rounds here over the years, excellent greens and layout, suitable for all types of golfer.

Good mix of risk/reward holes keeps this fresh every time you play it. Often the only course in Oxfordshire that is open and in good condition during wet/icy weather.

Hotel has some very comfortable rooms and we have stayed in standard hotel rooms as well as Self Catering over the years.

Should be called "Wimpyspoons".

My partner and I booked a one night golf break at what the advertising suggests is a fairly up-market venue, a “Spa and golf hotel” no less which might indicate such things as health club style facilities, you know sauna and other wettening style activities.

As indeed it does! Ah unfortunately, they decided not to tell us they were “out of order” until moments after we arrived and anyway, we were not entitled to use as we were on a Golf break!

Be warned, when arriving, unless you go through the Golf club entrance you will enter through what looks like a Gypsy camp until spilling into a large gravel car park.

Let’s describe a few of the delightful circumstances we later encountered: dirty seating in the bar/clubhouse, (Photo taken) a room that out of nearly all the rooms in the building was without a “window”, we had patio doors opening onto the car park and barely hidden behind plastic hedging there was no way to allow that old fashioned luxury known as oxygen into the room without creating perfect conditions for peeping Toms and general burglars easy access, airless describes the room and only frequent night time rising to stand next to the door and open it for a few minutes made any kind of sleep possible. The bed? The huge bed was in fact two singles butted together which is of course normal but when the edges have massive hard piped sections when pushed together make for a ridge of Alpine proportions and therefore making for great contraception! I missed my partner that night as she was inaccessible.

In the bar after we arrived and were told we couldn’t check in until most of the day had gone, we discovered that unlike a “Hotel” we could not put drinks (or anything else) on the room? The seating was, as mentioned grubby and the small horrible plastic plantlets were a joke surely?

The barman had fingernails munched to the knuckle looking disgusting as well as unhealthy, the place had all the charm and warmth of Hannibal Lecter crossed with a toothpick.

The Golf course was OK, fun and challenging even though a couple of the holes meant my partner and I had to part company for 10 minutes while we went to our respective tees!

The Cotswold hotel and spa can best be described as a cross between Wetherspoons and a Travelodge, the building itself could clearly do with some maintenance as even the missing glass panel glaringly obvious as it has been replaced with a chunk of OSB in the balcony just above the reception entrance shows.

The carpet in the airlock we were given to sleep in was stinking and totally permeated clothes on the floor, this seemed to be because as mentioned earlier, it was impossible to have safety privacy AND air at the same time and the vent in the bathroom apart from being akin to a small aircraft taxiing before take-off had the air moving capacity of an emphysema suffering geriatric. There was no fridge the sheets have a thread count of around 4 per inch and the sink will direct water at your trousers if you turn the tap “on”, the toilet seat was knackered and getting any of the remaining bath/shower liquids into the bath was only possible from about a 5 foot height as they deemed the liquid of sufficient value to lock it in situ half way up the wall.

Dinner was acceptable but then Brake Brothers have been making food for long enough and if it was in fact freshly made they should consider suing the Hotel for copyright infringement. Breakfast was like a lay-by trailer with no apparent choice of eggs other than the lightly fried ones having their own “oil spa” on the platter they were placed on. The food was in fact cheap and nasty much like an old Wimpy cafe.

The place we had parked had a small “used” poo bag on the grass which whilst not the fault of the Hotel indicated a lack of grounds care (I suspect the plastic hedges were a giveaway as to the effort they decided to put into this area)

The whole experience was depressing, depressing and soul destroyingly ugly and we would NOT recommend it until they have taken a good long hard look at ALL their departments and decided that in order to call yourself a hotel you should at least try and fulfill some of the very basics.

Shameful place, do not go.

Misleading and unprofessional

Where do I start. We booked the Cotswolds Club in the hope of a luxury 4-star experience as their swish website and description seems to imply, rebooking my birthday weekend for the third time since November last year. We turned up and with just a quick signature and nothing further than that, we were given our key (complete with broken keyring).

Underwhelmed is an understatement. Four star? More like two star, the whole place feels like a marginally more upmarket motel, somewhere I would expect a cheap room for £40 a night, not £160 a night as we'd paid. The room was dirty, stains on the carpet and flaking paint. We immediately didn't feel happy for the amount we'd paid we expected so much more. We went down to the front desk and politely asked if we could have a refund as it wasn't what we expected for four-star (along with the four-star price tag). We were quickly told by the gentleman at the front desk that they did not advertise as four-star (take a quick Google and it's obvious they do - read some of the other reviews too) and that he would get the manager to come down.

Two minutes later a well dressed gentlemen who looked like he'd come straight out of school was extremely dismissive of our claims, but he did offer another similar room. As much as a different room may have been cleaner, we still weren't happy with the quality of room for the price tag we'd paid, so firmly pressed that we would like a refund. He said there was no refunds as it was an advance payment and that was it. I would have been happy to accept to pay for the first night, but was not happy that they wouldn't refund anything. Even the threat of making a Section 75 claim on our credit card made no difference to their stance. We left disgruntled, checked into a nearby Hilton at almost a third cheaper for a much nicer room.

I engaged in email correspondence with the "Guest Relations Team" who I can only assume was the same guy I spoke to in the hotel. After much toing and froing, the threat of a Section 75 claim, and also that I would contact Oxfordshire Trading Standards for misleading advertising, they agreed to a 50% reimbursement.

If you're after an overprices two-star experience, Cotswolds Club is your place. However, if you are actually after the four-star experience for the same money, do yourself a favour, find somewhere else, there are lots of other nice hotels around the area.
