Beware

Beware! After using this guy for several years, my 94 year old mother was contacted to arrange her Rayburn service. Knowing the firm from previous work, she paid £240 in advance of the service. They didn’t show, made a couple of stalling attempts, then radio silence. Phones disconnected, email bounced back and owners of the registered address don’t know how to contact the proprietors.

Don't use Combined Heat! Con man

As with the first post here, I have unfortunately lost just under £1000 to this con man. I got a quote to service my Rayburn and fit some new piping and radiators to my old cottage. He came over, Quoted just under 2K and asked for 1K as a deposit. I agreed and paid, and then a day before he was due to start he said he couldn't do it then due to personal issues. Then no response to my communications. Trying to take him to court and I hear bayliffs are after him so I hope he will get his due and meet his Karma.
We were left without heating in the bathroom (I took radiator off ready for him) and a cold Christmas (Rayburn is only source of heating), I have a young family and I know he preys on the old too. I think his wife is in on it too, not sure how they can live with themselves, very sad indeed. Report them if you know where they are!

It’s Christmas Eve and our Rayburn…

It’s Christmas Eve and our Rayburn springs a leak. We try our usual engineers, but they had nobody available, so put a Facebook post, a plea for help. A representative from Combined Heat responds, agrees to make our system safe, so we can cook, and will investigate the cause of the leak. Meanwhile, we have no hot water or heating. The representative from Combined Heat duly arrives, makes the system safe and diagnoses a water jacket replacement. We were billed and given a quote for a replacement water jacker and this is where the trouble starts.

We were given a quote of £2600 (round figures) and were asked to pay a deposit for half. We agreed Combined Heat could carry out the repairs, over our usual Rayburn engineers because Combined Heat came to our rescue in our hour of need. All that was needed was a date for the work to be done. However, Combined Heat ignored all our calls, text messages and E-mails and by the end of February we had had enough. Doing a bit of digging, it appears that Combined Heat may not have an account with the Rayburn suppliers. So we got in touch with our usual engineers and the job was completed within 10 days. After numerous requests for a refund of our deposit, we were forced to take County Court action and we are still waiting for the bailiffs to catch up with Combined Heat.

Combined Heat registered offices are a storage unit sand they are hardly ever there. I know, I actually drove over to confront the directors who were ‘unavailable’.

So the message is loud and clear, in my opinion, Combined Heat are content to take money for work they have no intention of carrying out, they make tracking down the directors difficult and, although they seem affable and plausible, they are anything but. I would not recommend that anybody uses them or any other companies associated with the directors, there are several others.

I would give no star if I could.

I would give no star if I could.

Make of these what you will.

The directors, before they set up this company installed a range cooker in my house. They left the house damaged and I had to get someone else to put it right since they saw no urgency in dealing with it. They insisted on cash payment (over £2k) and never gave me an invoice despite me asking a number of times. They told the Rayburn Guild that they had provided me with an Oftec installation certificate although Oftec had no knowledge of one being registered, when I complained one of them made a malicious call to my place of work and then appears to have said things to the police about me that were not true leading to them visiting me.

I have since had three separate engineers visit this appliance who were bemused at how it was installed (during installation the director asked me if I had a wiring diagram!). It cost me a lot of money to put right what they had done. If I thought they had money I would have gone after them. As I say, make your own mind up.
