Good communication when cancelling

Be careful with Coliving.com

Edit: after writing this review, co-living.com reached out to me, asked that I edit it, and offered 50$ of credit in their website. Less than 10% of how much I spent here. This for me, just further goes to show the disatachment and lack of reasonability they take.

Be careful with Coliving.com - they did not respect their 24-hour money-back guarantee. In my case, even though I reported serious issues right after arrival, they later refused to refund, saying I had contacted the host before them.

Unfortunately, my trust with Coliving.com is inherently broken.
To keep it brief: I arrived at what I thought was a co-living, but it turned out to be a standard hostel. The walls were thin, my room was beside the communal kitchen, and above me were the dorms — the ceiling would shake and echo every time someone walked. And there were many other issues.

I kindly reached out to the host within a few hours to find a solution. He ghosted me for a few days, then offered to move me to a slightly better room, away from the kitchen, but only for extra money.

I then reached out to Coliving.com with everything: videos, images, and clear proof that the room was not suitable for what was expected. It took them 3–4 days to respond. By that time, I had already left the place just to regain my sanity. Eventually they told me that because I contacted the host first and not them within the 24-hour window, it was my own problem. None of my money was refunded. A full month of rent was gone.

Being a company that offers accommodations, community, and human-centered services, one needs to have big compassion, tight support and strong leadership. This case completely broke my trust to the company, and I know that I will never use them again.

Consider alternatives

I rented a place with Coliving. The landlord (Neighbourgood) did not provide me the promised property on the day of, and put me in a significantly worse property at a different address (horrible smell, loud street noise, sticky floor, bathroom flooded in the morning). Unfortunately I tried to settle things with Neighbourgood first, because I was scared of having to find emergency housing on a day's notice, leading me to contact Coliving a day too late (outside their 24 hour window), and so they refused to help me in any way.

In addition, Coliving reviews are aggregated across properties for the same landlord. One would naively think that the reviews refer to the PROPERTY and people's experiences there. This is not made explicit anywhere, and so the site is quite misleading.

I would strongly recommend anyone considering Coliving to find an alternative. I've had much better experiences using Craigslist, Airbnb, and Facebook housing groups. Coliving is not cheaper, and not worth the stress.

Inaccurate Listing Description

unfortunately, the listing page specified that there was no security deposit. But in the rent schedule it showed that there was one so that was very misleading and a true waste of my time.

It's a trusted website

This is my first time using this website and everything looks great, from the website to the customer service.
I had to cancel my booking unfortunately, however I was allow to receive the refund as it mentions on T$C.

Very efficient support service

I have had a problem with one detail of the booking and the support service immediately took care of it via email. On top of this, it happened on a Friday after six and they still replied to me straight away.

Don't trust the website.

shitty service from shitty host
Tried to book a place the website said was available the host said it wasn't. This will happen a lot, none of the info about availability is correct. Worst option to go with if you don't have a lot of time. I was canceled another booking because I trusted he website when they said the place was available. When the host said its not and only available July said that's fine. then she changed her mind again said only the large room. I said that's fine ill pay more for the large room then she never replied. I have the screen shots. They also allow hosts to hide the information about themselves so you don't know who they are. VERY Shady. AIRBNB would neverrr. They require guest to verify their profiles and provide photos and info however most hosts do not provide information about themselves for guests. There's also not phone customer service if you have issues you have solved it via email. really wanted to give it a fair shot. Happy to increase my rating to 5 stars if my experiences improve to that level. Still trying to book and and contact customer service

UPDATE: Experience did not improve. The host continued to ignore all my questions after support got in contact with me. They canceled saying exactly "This person is not reading the answers we provide and just continues to write the same questions." I ASKED THE SAME QUESTION BECAUSE THEY NEVER ONCE PROVIDED AND ANSWER. waack platform that allows waaaak hosts to provide shitty services. They do not enforce standards host must comply to. if so they are doing a bad job.

Lot of places are listed as available…

Lot of places are listed as available but when booking they are used as short term vacation rentals. This does few things, takes the monthly rentals to high prices, the platform is not for these kind of rentals. " co-Living "

Lack of accountability and transparency to the extend of disregarding European consumer rights

I’ll leave my first review hereunder for transparency, but I must absolutely warn everyone about this website and there way of working. There is for sure a complete lack of accountability from their team and very poor price transparency on their website - to keep the story as short as possible, the cost structure on the website in not following European law, and is misleading. I logged a complaint through ECC and they confirm my statement but unfortunately - be aware too – coliving.com is an American platform - so even if they don’t respect European consumer rights, there is nothing that can be done (at least by the free legal services that the ECC offer).

The one thing that I find absolutely alarming and just appalling human behaviour is that they actually threatened me in the end with taking an additional >400€ from my account because I wouldn’t fully remove this review and because they didn’t like me taking a stand against their poor price transparency.

So, there might be an absolute lack of negative reviews because of this strategy.

Also, don’t be fooled by their answer here below, they are not willing to help and they haven’t changed anything on their website since.

Finally, I’ll actually get a chargeback through my credit card insurance (fyi, it’s possible if you have been misled too), but please save yourself the hassle and just book directly with the rentals, otherwise there are other platforms to use, this platform offers absolutely nothing except a pretty website, they do not intermediate, they just add a charge and come with a big bag of tactics to avoid any accountability, a very big bag, a huge bag, the biggest bag you have ever seen.. *sigh*…

INITIAL REVIEW:
I booked something yesterday (since my already planned cohousing has one month of delay) - the host told me through whatsapp that there'll be an additional 50% of the month's rent admin charge - The rent was already extremely expensive, almost 900€ (9m2 room) so I would've had to pay an additional 450€. This cost was no where to be found before booking, so my only choice was to cancel - so I lost 120€ in less than 24hours (which was the minimum to pay upfront, only after paying this, was the additional admin fee mentioned)..

Lets hope no more scams whilst looking for a one month solution :-(

Be very much aware for offerings through this website, there's a big financial risk :-(
