Firstly, shame on Sainsbury's for allowing these scammers to operate in their stores.

I'm reading LOTS of negative comments about Coinstar and I now see why.

What they do is allow you to put actual cash and legal tender into their machine, and they give you a voucher to then use in store.

What they don't tell you anywhere on the voucher, is that you must use it immediately after printing as it is only valid that day.

It would so easy to put on the voucher THIS IS ONLY VALID TODAY or THIS VOUCHER EXPIRES TODAY - PLEASE USE IMMEDIATELY (you will lose your money).

BUT THEY DON"T! Why not? Because they'll make a fortune from the poor saps who have just literally poured cash into their machines in exchange for a useless slip of paper.

There is no other logical reason why they would fail to inform customers that the voucher is ONLY valid if used that day.

It's a simple change to remedy, and it's an issue the company are aware of and choosing to ignore.

I can only assume that Sainsburys aren't aware of this underhand thievery otherwise sure as anything they'd have kicked them out of their stores.

I tried to redeem my voucher for the cash couple weeks later told its out date and ive lost the £15.95 it dont say they go out date howw to claim it back

Not only does this company take over 10% in fees, the only option is to spend your voucher in store THAT DAY! Please spend in store today is not a "must be spent in store that day" Rules are totally unfair and it appears many others have fallen foul of this trap. Sainsbury's refused to take the voucher which was less than a week old and I was told to contact Coinstar who never responded. Would never use these bandits again, I would have thought Sainsbury's would be more careful in who they partner with. Evidently not. It's not even about the £25 I lost, it's the principal!

£28 I’ll never get back. Tesco should be ashamed. Took my grandson to tesco, he loved piling the mostly copper coins in the machine.
Shopped and went to till, nope… can’t use that here. You need to go to customer services.
Totally forgot what with one demanding grandson.
Now it’s worthless as yuh have to redeem same day 🤦🏻

It won’t accept euro coin. Only accept penny and pound coins..

THEY ROBBING FILTHY ANIMALS.I have a counting machine also hand counted my money twice and in a counting machine twice they took my 9.9 % but money was still very short by a lot extra £8 pounds missing from only £32 pounds put in, so god only knows what they steal from bigger deposits. It’s criminal. Also they got fake reviews read them you will understand why, my friend also told me they got robbed over a £100 from them even though they took their % charge they still got extra missing, also you will never be able to get them on the phone, THIS COMPANY NEEDS REPORTING AND INVESTIGATION THEY ARE CRIMINALS.

Scam set up designed to steal your money.Takes your coins with no way of getting them back after the "please seek assistance". Customer service aren't coherent and are well versed in giving you the run around

If I could leave no stars I would.
Like others on this site, I believe are proper scammers.
It is disgraceful that vouchers can only be redeemed on the same day as transaction.
Fair enough take a commission but stealing all your cash as you decide to use the voucher for a treat at a later date and you lose the lot.
Sainsbury’s are complicit in this and no doubt get a commission from Coinstar.
I suspect if you decide to give your money to charity instead of a voucher they probably keep your charity donation . I won’t shop at Sainsbury’s again or use Coinstar.

DO NOT USE COINSTAR MACHINES - THEY ARE COMMITTING FRAUD AND SCAMMING YOU OF YOUR OWN MONEY. I do not understand how these machines are still legal.

Used in Asda, and it was clear that voucher issued would need to be used in store same day. Can't vouch for machines in other supermarkets. Easy to use and convenient way of putting spare coins into use.

You are commiting fraud. I only lost 1.68 but because I wanted to spend it the next day Asda tore up my voucher because it is to be used on the day .( It doesn't say visibly on the machine use that day). I am a pensioner it is my money went into that machine . From now on I will be a slow old person in the checkout queu counting out my pennies as slowly as I can fumble. Rip off.

I would just like to say that it's not coinstars doing, they only state that you to use your voucher on the day of cashing your coins in so you don't lose your voucher, other than that your voucher is valid for whenever you want to cash it in.
Sainsburys on the other hand told me you only get 2 hours and even if you leave the store it becomes invalid.
I called coinstar and they said that I was to go in the store and get the manager and he would wait on the line and he will speak to them personally, which he did..!
Surprise surprise I had my voucher exchanged even after a week when I placed the coins in the machine and got my voucher.
The manager was still adamant that its coinstars policy but I said its not, then he said it was Sainsburys policy...! So i said can you show me where in the store it has a policy statement
I had no answer from him as he walked off..
So the moral is don't back down because the store is so so wrong.
He said it displayed on the machine, but it's not

Pure theft! I forgot to use my voucher as I had to rush off. I've contact Sainsbury's and was told I had to use it today. Shop now closed so I've lost my money. DONT USE THIS!

If I could I would put zer because I went to tesco but the money in and it took a 50 pound processing fee so in my opinion don't go there it is a ripoff!!

I wish I could put zero stars. Someone must be held responsible for this fraud. They basically steal your money. Not only they take a cut from your total, but it says nowhere that you have to use it on the same day. And apparently there's nothing you can do about it. I won't stop, even if I have to put a sign on every single machine that these guys are basically thieves.

i used 3 different coinstar machines over the course of a week to get rid of my huge coin stash ,got cashback each time and had no problems at all. If you have a big lot of change and dont want the aggro of bagging it up for a bank use a coinmaster .One tip i can give is dont use one too early in the day as the cashier might not have enough cash in the till at 7am to pay you out. Midday is best

horrific rip off - nothing about the transaction indicated that the voucher it prints are limited to redemption on the same day. The supermarkets, sainsbury's in this case, are complicit in this scam and should be ashamed. Seeing these reviews makes me sick to my stomach - so many supermarkets have these scam machines in them, they are obviously being paid off.

Cashed up my coins at my local Tesco, one cashier and a supervisor were watching me, as soon as I finished both said the customer service is closed, and if you can only cash your voucher tonight!! I said what should I do now, the answer was not much!! Get in touch with coinster!!

I recently used a coinstar machine in Asda after putting in all my change the screen went blank and showed an error message. I thought I was going to have big problems trying to then get my money from the machine but after speaking with coinstar customer service team they sent an engineer out the next day and rang me to go to Asda to collect the money. I did have a few problems with Asda but after emailing coinstar they contacted Asda and sorted this all out and I went and collected the cash with no other problems. The machine breaking etc was a bit of a pain but the customer service was brilliant dealing with it on the phone and via email. They really was great after reading the reviews on here I thought I was going to have a nightmare but they couldn’t do enough to help me which was a refreshing change as most customer services aren’t the best towards the customers anymore I find so thank you
