Trigenic 2 flex shoes - broke after wearing only 3 times

I bought the Trigenic 2 flex shoes in white from Clarks outlet in Street, at full price. I wore them 3 times and the suede leather part tore, and whilst I walked home it continued to tear along the length of the shoe whilst walking. I made a complaint through the Clarkes website 8 days ago and I have heard nothing. I included photos and proof of my purchase via my bank statement as I didn’t keep the till receipt. You just do not expect Clarkes shoes to break after wearing 3 times.

Heartbroken at the decline of a once-special brand

I’m genuinely so sad to be writing this. Clarks used to be something really special. When I was little, going there was an event. You were treated like a VIP, the staff made such a fuss over you, and the range of shoes was incredible. Getting your feet measured felt exciting, and when my nephews got their first shoes around 11 years ago, it was still the same, such a memorable, heart-warming experience, topped off with that beautiful little “first shoes” box they still treasure in their memory boxes today.

Fast forward to 2025, and I was so excited to take my own son for his first shoes. I even booked an appointment, expecting that same special experience. Instead, it was honestly upsetting and disappointing from start to finish.

We travelled 80 miles to the Clarks store, full of excitement. When we arrived at the children’s fitting area, we were met with a huff and a blunt “What do you want?” At the children’s measuring area, no less! When I explained we had an appointment for my son’s first shoes, the assistant just called another staff member over saying, “Sorry, you’ve just started but they say they have an appointment.” I offered to show my booking, but she just sighed, shook her head, and told me to get him out of the pram — which I was already doing. The tone was so unnecessarily rude and deflating.

The gentleman who measured my son was polite, but that’s where the positives ended. The choice of shoes was extremely limited, four options, with only one available in the correct size — so effectively, we had no choice. My mum had come along especially, wanting to buy her grandson’s first pair, so we went ahead anyway, hoping at least for the sentimental touch Clarks used to be known for.

But there was no “first shoes” box, no warmth, no excitement. Just a curt warning at the till “You can only return them if they’re faulty, but I can see they’re not” — followed by another huff when I asked for a bag. Not one member of staff even made eye contact with my son throughout the whole visit. For a 10-month-old who loves people, this was meant to be a happy milestone , instead, it was flat and joyless.

To top it off, the shoes were overpriced for what felt like cheaply made products, and without that special Clarks touch, there’s really no justification anymore.

I never thought I’d say this, but next time I’ll just buy a measuring gauge and order online. It’s the same experience now anyway. Clarks used to be worth the premium because of the service, the care, and the memories they created along with quality long lasting shoes. Sadly, those days are gone.

Clarks Village store — you’ve really lost what made your brand so loved. Please, bring back the human touch.
