Had a knock at the door from a young lad who was very polite and used the usual “working in the area…” introduction. Our driveway did need cleaning, so we had a brief chat and agreed a price. The lad also mentioned they could repoint patios, but we wanted see how well the driveway was done first.

After the lad started work, two additional men arrived unexpectedly and to their credit, they worked hard and did a decent enough job.

However, when it came to payment an older man, who we had not negotiated with and certainly would not have hired, asked for more money than agreed. We stood firm and the young lad was present during this conversation but said nothing.

For context, the team appeared to be from a travelling community which was only discernable when the two men arrived. While they were polite and the work itself was decent, the change in price at the end left us feeling uncomfortable

Cold caller, quoted £250 for gutter clean. Despite thinking it was a bit pricey I agreed to having all the gutters doing.
Next thing I knew he was on the roof removing a ridge tile.
When I remonstrated with him his companion became quite vociferous and I asked them to leave. They pointed out they’d already done the back of the house, so I told them to confine themselves to the gutters.They waited until payment had gone through and then insisted my wife delete any photos she had taken of them. She had not taken any, having been having a phone call while they were here. Despite this she felt obliged to prove this by showing him her phone.
They did clean up the debris from the gutter but that’s the only good thing I can say about them.

I wanted to share my experience to help others avoid the same situation. I hired Citywide Steam Cleaning Solutions for patio cleaning, and unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The work carried out was well below expectations – areas were left poorly cleaned, and the overall finish did not reflect what was promised. In addition, I felt the pricing was excessive for the quality delivered. Communication became difficult when I raised concerns, and the interaction turned unprofessional, including inappropriate language when I questioned the standard of work. I also felt misled about what would be delivered versus the actual outcome. They also appear to drive around areas looking for work and often cold call, so please be mindful if approached.
