I love Citizen Cafe. I think it's the best program and platform to learn Hebrew remotely. The teachers are first rate: enthusiastic & upbeat, always encouraging students to speak freely without fear of making mistakes. The class size is small (10-12 students), allowing for high interactions. This is my third semester with Citizen Cafe, & I already signed up for the next semester. Their website is excellent: it has flashcards, self-quizzes, & one can practice & review lessons 365/24/7. In addition the program has Practice Groups on Zoom run by tutors. I highly recommend Citizen Cafe.

This is a great place to learn how to speak and understand Hebrew. I began studying at Citizen Cafe three years ago and I am still with them. The format of the classes are specifically geared to speaking Hebrew and the spoken language rather than learning the grammar. The class size (10-12 people) allows you ample time to practice and speak and and the method used pushes you to speak all the time. I study on line which allows for meeting people from different countries and of different ages, which adds to the interest and fun. The school also offers additional practice sessions which are very helpful Altogether a great and very pleasurable experience.

For several years I've been meaning to learn conversational Hebrew, and finally decided to Just Do It. I found CitizensCafe after doing research online, and I'm so happy I did. This is a great program. I love my teacher, Achi. Hebrew does not roll off my tongue easily, and Achi is so patient with all of us. We have fun learning with each other. I really appreciate all the resources you provide, to help us with our Hebrew learning. Great program!!

I have loved my classes, and the teachers are fun and encouraging. I do need extra help with reading and writing, but when it comes to speaking and listening comprehension the live Zoom classes are so helpful. Thank you for making learning Hebrew fun!

Love learning Hebrew at citizen academy. They make the lessons fun, it’s a global group of students and even though it’s always on zoom you become a small community of avid Israel lovers and Hebrew learners!

Citizen Café Tel Aviv is, without a doubt, the best place to learn Hebrew that I have ever seen. From the moment I started, I felt welcomed and supported in a way that truly made a difference in my learning journey.

The teachers are absolutely amazing—kind, patient, and incredibly skilled. They create a warm and encouraging environment where every student feels comfortable and motivated to improve. Their teaching method makes learning Hebrew feel natural and enjoyable, even for those who might struggle with languages.

One of the things I loved the most was being in the classroom with my colleagues. The atmosphere was always friendly and engaging, making every lesson something to look forward to. Learning together with such a great group of people made the whole experience even more special.

Most importantly, Citizen Café Tel Aviv helped me tremendously in my journey to start learning Hebrew. I feel more confident and capable, and I can’t recommend this school highly enough to anyone who wants to master the language in a fun, effective, and supportive environment!

I decided to try Citizen Cafe Tel Aviv after studying Hebrew in many different ways since I moved to Israel 5 years ago. From the Ulpan to different courses, a private teacher, videos, audios, books, you name it, I tried it. I got frustrated, gave up and started again many times. Now I'm past the middle of my second semester in Citizen Cafe, and I have learnt more in these few months than in the previous 5 years. They have a very structured and solid method, manly pointed at teaching you to understand and speak modern Hebrew as it is used in everyday life in Israel. The teachers are excellent, the lessons are up-beat, fun and challenging. You practice speaking all the time in a small group and also divided into sub-groups during parts of the lessons, which include playing different games which are a lot of fun. In addition to the live lessons, you get to participate in practice sessions guided by a teacher. So you not only get two hour and a half lessons a week, but also many more opportunities to practice, which are included in the price, together with flashcards to review what you have learnt and exercises you can do on your own, including reading, writing, recording yourself and more.
So I wholeheartedly recommend it. My only criticism is that IMHO translating to and from English is used too much. Based on my experience learning English and French (my mother tongue is Spanish), I think this is mostly unnecessary. In the process of learning both languages, we never spoke Spanish, not even a word, and that helped us learn to think in the target language, without relating it to Spanish. I think they should consider that possibility. So I don't think their system is perfect, but it's the best I have found, by a long shot, I'm very happy with it, extremely grateful for all I'm learning, and I plan on continuing until I'm fluent in Hebrew.

I have been studying Hebrew online for three years now. I am now in my second year with Citizen Cafe. This method is great for getting you to speak in modern Israeli Hebrew. You learn through repetition, not through rote memory. There are games and interactions with other students, and it's really fun! My classmates are from all over the world. The teachers are very engaging.

Citizen Café is WONDERFUL. I can’t stress this enough. I am in my first “semester,” and I feel like I have learned and taken in more than I did in years of other language classes. The method is genius, the teachers are engaging, and the opportunities for practice are abundant. I work full time, but I have managed to make time for 90-minute classes twice a week and occasional 1-hour practice sessions and studying. It’s very doable and fun. I highly recommend it. Whether you are trying to learn Hebrew for work or family or just to pick up a new language and have a new “hobby,” this is a great program.

Citizen Café TLV is without mistake THE BEST AVAILABLE HEBREW COURSE to introduce yourself to Israeli society, regardless of your spiritual beliefs. This is for sure the conversational top.

Citizen cafe is great! They make learning Hebrew fun and (relatively) easy. They have a smart approach that focuses on learning by listening and speaking before writing, which is they way people learn languages naturally. In addition to the lessons on a set schedule, they offer practice groups a number of times per week.

I started my journey with Citizen Café during the Covid years, on a whim, when one of my synagogue school students asked me if I was fluent in Hebrew and I found myself answering, “Not yet.” I’m not sure I would have had the courage to go to my first class if I’d had to do it in person and actually get out of my pajamas, but knowing that I’d be safe in my living room, with my dogs around me and snacks nearby, gave me strength. And, really, after my first class, with a kind, attentive Israeli teacher, I was hooked. Surrounded by classmates from around the world, I took my broken, Day School Hebrew, most of which I’d long ago forgotten, and grew it class by class, practice by practice, listening to Israeli music and watching Israeli TV shows and learning some grammar along the way. And I discovered that I learn languages best the same way I learn songs, by listening and repeating and letting the sounds seep in until they become a part of me. From the beginning of this journey, but especially since October 7th 2023, my Citizen Café classes have been a place where I could meet people who share a love of Israel and the Hebrew language, and where I could feel safe making mistakes and being my own weird self, and most of all, know that I’m not alone.
