Unfair Dispute Handling – Merchant Split One Charge Into Two

I’m extremely disappointed with how Citibank handled my recent dispute. The merchant split one single charge into two different transactions. Citibank approved the dispute on the smaller portion, but refused to approve the second part — even though it was all part of the same original charge.

I provided full documentation showing that this was one transaction, not two separate purchases, yet Citibank still denied the larger dispute without a clear explanation. Customer service gave inconsistent answers and didn’t seem to actually review the evidence.

It feels like Citibank protected the merchant instead of their own customer. After this experience, I no longer trust their dispute process and would caution others to pay close attention to how their claims are handled.

I want to extend my highest praise for…

I want to extend my highest praise for Susana Tovar (Suzy) at the Citibank branch in Fairfield, Connecticut. Every interaction I’ve had with her has been exceptional. Suzy provides the kind of customer service found at the highest echelons of personal banking — she is warm, genuinely kind, incredibly attentive, and remarkably knowledgeable.

Suzy consistently goes above and beyond to make sure every question is answered and every concern is addressed with patience and care. It is clear that she takes real pride in her work and in helping customers feel valued and supported. Her professionalism is matched only by her positive attitude, and she creates an atmosphere that makes banking not only easy, but even enjoyable. She is an outstanding representative of Citibank, and I hope she is recognized for the exceptional service she provides. I am deeply grateful for her help and the kindness she brings to every interaction. Thank you SUZY!

Extorters, thieves, and liars.

Extorters, thieves, and liars. One of many examples, I paid my Citibank Home Depot balance in full but then a $3.00 balance showed up based on voodoo they cooked up re when I paid and a weird fee for returning a product--and they charge interest and fees on THIS. They will NEVER LET YOU PAY OFF YOUR CARD, the b.s. fees, etc. will ACCRUE MORE INTEREST AND FEES, it's like a nightmare scenario you can't escape. These people are just liars and thieves. I cut up my Home Depot card (not hard to do these days) and I will never use a Citibank card again. You have to close your account and destroy your card. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY to escape their extortion and games. They hang your credit rating out to dry, and they know what they're doing. And they will never ever stop and no one will stop them. They are CRIMINALS. Cut up the cards and shop at Lowes where so far, ICE isn't beating the sh out of innocent people in their parking lots. Ripping you off. Violence against innocent people. Cut up your Home Depot Extortion card and stop shopping there. If they won't stand up for America, we will.

Jacked up credit card interest rate

According to customer service, I was "randomly" selected to have a credit card interest rate increase from 15.99% to 22.99%. They would not reduce it back to my legacy rate. Will be closing the account and moving my business somewhere else.

One only because ZERO is not a choice!

Abysmal customer service, They changed the bill pay process and have failed at offering something reliable.

18 minutes to get to a live person, who barely speaks English.... 15 more minutes to get to an "English speaker".... to be told ...it might be a "glitch"....but my feedback is very valuable .... I was waiting to be asked d about buying an extended car warranty or paint protection.....

Incapable Customer Service

I spent 20 minutes on the phone with a customer service representative who was incapable of restoring access to my account or providing me with the 1099s that I needed. In the 6 days since the call, I still have not received my 1099s.
I have accounts with Fidelity and Schwab and when there is a problem, it is resolved in far less than 24 hours (usually the time it takes to call them).
Why did I move my money from them to Schwab? I had a money market account and it LOST money. Money markets should only gain.

I tried making a purchase on my card

I tried making a purchase on my card. I had plenty of credit avaliable. I made the charge and fraud dept text me and aked if it was me. I confirmed and I recieved a text saying remake your charge.

I tried again and was denied. Now it locked my acct and I had to call Citi bank. I called and after being put on hold multiple times and was informed they could not unlock my acct unti i responded to a letter they were sending me in the mail in the next 7 to 10 days. Mind you now as well that during the call I paid the credit card off in full. Even after that still would not unlock my acct. I asked to have my acct cancled and they couldnt do that either. So now i am stuck with a card I cant use untill I respond via letter. Last I checked this 2025 and they verified me 4 times on the call but somehow I cant get my card unlocked. At this point I will respond and will definetly cancel the card. OH BTW the supervisor I spoke to was named lovely and was of no help. I have been with citi bank for about 10 years. So nice way to treat a good customer who spends a lot on thier credit card. Never again!!!

Disrespectful

I called citi bank because I wanted to know where I could go to open an account or deposit my son check. I called citi bank toll free number and the customer service asked me for my check number and Alt ID. I gave it to the representative. The representative told me that she could not assist me any further and hung up in my face. I looked at my phone in disbelief. She didn't give me any reason why she couldn't assist me. She just hung up in my face. This behavior was completely disrespectful and unacceptable.

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service. It takes me over half an hour to figure out how to connect to a human agent because the bank makes every way to stop you from doing so. Then the customer representative has a very strong accent and can not conduct English conversation properly - simply because he does not understand. After 2 hours on the line, nothing was moved forward. Horrible! I cannot believe this is the customer experience for a bank in 2025.

Switched to 7 different departments

Spent 2 hours over 2 days trying to resolve a credit card issue that was admittedly my fault, but was switched to 7 different department. Eventually told to switch my payment from one citi card to another citi card could take 1 month and I have now received 4 texts/messages regarding my "over due" account. Will close my account as soon as this is resolved

Citi Retirement Plans are a scam

I'm writing about my experience with Citibank Retirement Plan Services. This has been awful. To begin with the rates they offer for IRA are so uncompetitive as to be criminal. Second if you don't have a citibank bank account separate from the IRAs it is almost impossible to get in touch and find anything out. Everything has to be done by phone and corresspondance. There is no app or online system unless it's connected through a Citi bank account so it's almost impossible to get your money out of the bank. I had a rollover using another institution to do the heavy lifting so even that was tough. I recently tried to get more information about a letter I was sent which might or might not have been a scam, and it was impossible to get through to the phone. Even after waiting on hold for an hour, I got a message that the office was closed and to call back during business hours -- it was business hours. It's a scam apparently where they figure the old folks will just run out of steam and leave them alone. Don't put your money there! And if you do, get it out while you can.

i am only giving them one star because…

i am only giving them one star because its required. I've had an account with Citibank since the time it was First National City Bank 50 years. More than 50 years. My account was compromised, and the branch representative told me it would be best to open a new account which I did. I was never informed that there would be a change in my service when I opened an additional account. When I deposited a check to this account it was held for five days. I went to the branch to inquire about this, and was told that they could do nothing I would have to call customer service. Customer Service at Citibank is an oxymoron. There is no customer service here. In order to speak with a person you have to go through an endless cycle of robotic cues that take you no where. By the time I did get through I was so angry I could barely contain myself with frustration. Ultimately I was told that my long standing relationship with the bank had no reflection on my new account status. I would have to wait 30 days before my account would be reviewed, and it remained unclear whether Citibank would continue to give my partial or full access to my deposits. The only reason I've stayed with Citibank was because I thought having an established relationship would benefit me. Not so. What is the most irksome was that the branch could not provide help. I was fawned off to Customer Service where I got the same non answers except this time they came
with an unintelligible foreign accent.

Citi bank costco card

Citi bank costco card. Has a terrible customer service and policies. The app will automatically enroll paperless statements and caused me to have a late fee. I did not ask for paperless statements it creates a pop-up at logon to the app. If you click anywhere but the x on it; it enrolls paperless. Happened twice two months apart. They gave a credit once on the first late fee. But the second is a different story. I sent a payment to a closed citi account. And got the late fees from costco citi card. Even though citi got the payment on time the wrong account. They said to bad so sad. One late payment fee waved a year. This is crap. Since they had the payment just the wrong account. If I close my account they take my cash back. We'll I will close the account at the anniversary date and NEVER GO BACK.

HORRIBLE Scam calls non stop!

HORRIBLE! I never had problems with spam or robo calls before applying. Now my phone is ringing off the hook all day long with loan offers and scams. This was a bad decision to apply to a company who leaks your info.

HORRIFIC

HORRIFIC - My adult disabled daughter and I have shared a joint account at Citi for over 15 years, and I help her manage her finances. As a two-time cancer survivor who recently faced another health scare, I wanted to make sure her finances would be handled smoothly in the future. To do this, I decided to add my other daughter and my son to the account so they could assist her if I’m unable to. About two weeks ago, all four of us went to the Mission Valley branch — one of the few branches open on Saturdays — after carefully coordinating everyone’s schedules. My son is a firefighter with limited availability, my daughter just started a new job, and my disabled daughter lives in a group home, so this was not easy to arrange. Plus we all live some distance away (Ramona, Jamul). I even called ahead to confirm what documents we needed and was told simply to bring photo IDs with current addresses. During that visit, Citi was able to add my son but not my daughter, claiming her information “wasn’t going through” and that they needed her Social Security card. The only possible issue we could think of was that she had frozen her credit after a possible data breach. Before leaving, we asked twice whether all four of us would need to return. We were told no — that my son did not need to come back. Fast-forward to today: the three of us returned, only to be told that everyone — including my son — had to be present. This was incredibly frustrating and a complete waste of time, especially after being told the opposite on our first visit. To make matters worse, during our initial visit, the representative asked my daughter to say her Social Security number and answer her security questions out loud in the open lobby, which was extremely unprofessional and insecure.
After this second disappointing and stressful experience, we decided on the spot to move to another bank.
