Thieves and charlatans

Please do not purchase anything from this company, they are also trading under mow direct. Spent £1200 on a new ride in mower and have had to pay £120 so far in call outs because it’s not working. It’s impossible to contact the company, they don’t want to know once they have your money. Thieves and charlatans! Please do not give them your business. I’m making a complaint to the financial ombudsman. Please report them too. Let’s get them shut down!

If I could leave no stars I would

If I could leave no stars, or minus stars, I would. Possibly the worst customer experience of my life.

This company seems to trade under more than one name, MowDirect, Chipperfield and another (that I couldn't hear on their recorded phone message)

I ordered a Mountfield petrol lawnmower on 28th May. Website said it was in stock, still claimed to do next day delivery despite the Covid pandemic. I got an email confirmation if the order, and an invoice, which said that a further email with shipping info would follow.

After a few days, and still not having received an email, I sent an online enquiry asking whether the mower had been sent. I got a phone call the following day asking me if I'd received the mower, and when I said I hadn't I was then told that's because it was actually out of stock. I was then offered a different model for the same price, on the basis I left a 5 star review online. I agreed to this, but after another week of no email and no mower, I phoned to find out what was going on. I spoke to one of the staff (Neil I believe) who apologised, and then offered me yet another different model of mower, which I again agreed to.

Another week of waiting without any sign of a mower, and I'd had enough, so phoned to cancel (after being kept on hold numerous times) I got through to someone who apologised and said they'd arrange the refund straight away, but that it could take up to 3 days. We'll, 3 days later and no sign of a refund, I called again today and spoke to Neil, who apologised and said he had no idea how 3 different mowers were never sent to me, and he would refund me, as apparently no refund had been arranged despite being told that it was 3 days previously.

However, he couldn't, so said he'd escalate it to a manager to resolve. I then had a phone call this afternoon from Ben, apparently a manager, who after apologising then said he'd make sure a mower was sent today without delay - to which I then had to explain again that all I wanted was a refund. Supposedly he's now done this, but having been told this already this week, I won't hold my breath.

Update; Ben phoned me Friday, its now Tuesday and still no refund.

All in all, a terrible company and definitely one to avoid

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Mountfield mower ordered on 21st April.
I was contacted following day to say the Mountfield was out of stock but an Atco mower was exactly the same, which I agreed to. I emailed on the 23rd to check on delivery time, day as I work shifts to be told I should receive it in the next two days.
It was delivered on the 29th. That’s when the fun started.
The mower was unboxed and set up which was fine until I went to cut the lawn. The height adjustment lever would not stay in position subsequently after 3-4 metres the cutter hit the floor.
I emailed Chipperfields/ mower direct on the 1st May explaining the problem.
I received a reply wanting mower details, which they had but I sent them anyway. After a second email I was requested to drain the mower and Redbox and it would be picked up. I emailed on the 7th to ask when it would be collected, no response.
On the tenth I was asked when it would be ready for collection and said anytime with some notice.
I emailed on the 15th requesting a refund and to return the mower. I have left 3 messages on not a single reply was received.
The mower is still sitting in the garage on the 17th.
After reading other reviews I have concluded that a refund will not be forthcoming and I’m stuck with a mower that will need a repair,
The service from this company is the worst I have ever come across. They then have the cheek to send a sales email Promoting the company!!
DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE UNRELIABLE AND A BUNCH OF CHARLATANS.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
If you want an Atco go direct to Atco as it’s the same price without the hassle.

Having had an issue with my order and…

Having had an issue with my order and delivery of a new motor mower, and after several phone calls I managed to speak to Neil in customer services who immediately responded by sending a replacement mower the next day, when it arrived it was in fact an improved model already assembled, topped up and ready to go. I could not have asked for better service.

Give them a miss!

Please Please Please, do yourself a favour and do not order from this company! I recently ordered and paid for a Hedgecutter, simple right? No, far from it, almost 20 days later my item has still not arrived and after many calls, spoken to the 2 guys in the Sales team as I couldn't get through to the so called customer service team, they assured me several times the Hedgecutter was on its way, all I can say is that was utter rubbish, still no Hedge Cutter! Lies Lies Lies!

Dishonest, no customer service or respect for the law.

Chipperfield Ltd. failed me at every point when I purchased a new Garden Tractor.
Unfortunately you only really find out how good a company is when thing go wrong.
1. PDI – Failed-Tractor delivered with a dangerous fault (and others). The tractor remained in reverse when gear lever returned to neutral, lifted the clutch and it shot backwards.
2. Customer Service Telephone – Failed – Rang after finding fault on first use and was told they would return my call the same day, they never called back.
3. Customer service written – Failed – I sent them a letter within my statutory rights to ask for a full refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requiring confirmation that they would provide it within 14 days of the date of that letter, that was over six weeks ago at time of writing and no response.
4. Refund – Failed – The tractor was returned ( I have a copy of the accepting signature on the delivery document) over a month ago, I have had no communication or refund from them.
5. Respect for the law – Failed – Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 they were required to respond to my letter and to issue a refund.
6. Being honest – Failed – They claim “Our Service promise means that as a customer you will receive full back up on any of the products we supply, giving you total peace of mind”. The bottom line is it is just not true.

I bought a new budget mower from…

I bought a new budget mower from Chipperfield Garden Machinery in march for a fledgling gardening business and received good advice and got a great price ,come Sept I was looking for something self propelled and a little more robust I must say the advice from CGM steered me toward a vastly reduced new Feider mower which has turned out to be a superb investment, not only this but I kept my old mower as a spare and received a £10 discount by way of not trading in my highly used budget machine which honestly would have been a pig to shift ,my new mower was delivered 2 days later ready to go to work and the delivery man took me thru the basics of the machine ,in all a very professional and friendly company I look forward to using for many years to come. 0 stars at best verging on fraudulent

As posted on reviews for Chipperfield GM and Mowdirect

Unfortunately I did not look on Trustpilot before purchasing a ride-on mower from Chipperfield. What a rogue company this is! Please avoid at all costs. The mower was delivered on a rickety, patched together, improvised pallet. It appeared to have slipped in transit and was no longer level. After being advised by telephone to try it out I required help from a neighbour to remove it from the ‘pallet’. On initial tryout it seemed fine, cutting slightly heavy on one side, however on a second occasion it was noisy, then when used to actually do a mowing the noise was much worse. There began a long saga of lies, lies, more lies. Customer Services never answer, endless promises by sales staff that customer services will call me to arrange a local company to service. In the end I needed to formally reject the mower and tell Chipperfield to come and collect it. There was absolutely no contact from Chipperfield after it was collected. It was over 2 weeks later before I got through to a sales person who promised faithfully that the money would be in my account within 48 hours. It wasn’t. When I emailed that I would make a County Court claim the ex-director, AG, actually replied wondering why I was so ‘aggressive’ – his word. He also promised to refund – words, words, more words. The claim was issued using the courts online service moneyclaimsdotservicedotgovdotuk. No response was received from Chipperfield within the statutory 14 days. This meant it was now possible for me to request an automatic County Court Judgement (CCJ) against Chipperfield. Strangely enough, when I emailed Chipperfield to inform them that I would be requesting the CCJ the following day, I then received an immediate call back and the full refund was received into my bank account. They had my money for 3 months.
I needed to go through this whole process because, on making the purchase, I was told that this particular mower was a manager’s special and could not be purchased using a credit or debit card. The salesperson had appeared to be so knowledgeable about the mower that, against all my better judgement, I was persuaded (tricked?) into making a direct bank transfer. Looking through all previous Trustpilot reviews, it is my personal opinion that Chipperfield have learnt that customers have been able to reclaim money from the company via their card issuers. I suspect that this approach of requesting a bank transfer may be repeated with future potential customers. It seems to me that Chipperfield has a business model of relying on a certain number of customers giving up on refunds.
The company, that still maintains a sister website called Mowdirect, is now actually 80% owned by a French entity, which is now the executive director as can be seen at Companies House registration for Chipperfield Limited.

No lawnmower, no refund

I attempted to purchase a mower for my disabled son and paid for it.5 days later I got a DX logistics message that said it was being delivered between 7am and 6pm the next day. It did not arrive. 'Sally Anne's in 'Support' advised it was not in stock and the previous affirmations we're wrong. I cancelled the order and she said she had passed my request to an 'account manager'. 3 days later and Sally Anne said 'account manager' was off and that it would take a further three days to refund as banks take that long and 'that is out of our control'. Needless to say the refund did not arrive. I am moving the case straight to the Money Claims Court but wanted to warn anyone who checks on Trustpilot
to avoid ordering from this company.

I ordered a mower which although was on their website was no longer available and only after enquiring was told that they had refunded my money. This was not true and subsequent emails were ignored. Further telephone calls were not returned with excuses of the relevant person not available. Only after escalating the issue with PayPal did they eventually refund the money. They still didn't offer any apology or further communication, absolutely unprofessional and disgraceful behaviour by all their staff and my advice is to avoid doing any business with them.
