After some initial doubts, after receiving a letter from Stamptax offering to obtain a refund of Stamp Duty, I took up their offer and found the process to be easy to follow and the resulting refund was paid very quickly. The only work involved is obtains all the required documentation from your solicitor.
I found the team at Stamptax to be extremely helpful and made the whole exercise simple to follow.

Like many, I was somewhat sceptical to start with, but the team were very professional and clear with the terms of engagement and likely outcome. Communication was at the right level, always on hand but not overburdening you with questions or updates. Process was seamless and require minimal input - just the standard docs you receive during the conveyancing process. The fees were fair at 30% (accounting for VAT), and as I probably wouldn't have "gotten around to it" without them so I felt like this was a bonus that we shared fairly. All in all I would highly recommend the team.

When I received the Stamp Duty refund letter in the post 10 months after moving I genuinely thought it was a scam. I knew I had paid too much SDLT but we did not have time in a pressurised move to calculate what reductions could be applied. Also we did not know just how much garden, house and other effects the previous owners would leave - it was loads! So I thought "why not, what have I got to lose?" and contacted Carlos. His team took me through a discussion video where I told them what had been left and included in the house purchase price. However, with nothing to loose apart from a quick call & a review of my sale completion paperwork, it became apparent I had over paid so with the help of Carlos & the team I obtained a small rebate. We received a letter through the post from Stamp Duty Advisory Services Ltd a couple of months after we moved into our new home.
It was addressed to the new occupier, and when on the state the we may have paid too much on our stamp duty.
Initially I was suspicious and put it on the “to do” pile.

The a few months later another one arrived. This time I thought I would inquire, but again life admin got forgotten about. Until we had been in our home about 10months and I followed up.

From the initial conversation over email, to the video call (over WhatsApp which makes life so much easier) the team at SDAS were able to indetify what had been left in our home from the original estate agent advert online and pursued our claim with HMRC.
As this was now on the run up our second Christmas in the house, we sort of forgot about it, until an email landed in my inbox stating that the claim had gone through and we’d received just under 10% of our stamp duty back.

I can’t thank the team enough for pursuing this claim and for anyone else reading this review having just received one of the these letter. Don’t ignore it, send that enquiry email and see where it leads to.

Easy process and if they hadn't told me this might be possible I would be £2k poorer!

I was skeptical at first - we had just moved in to our new home and an unsolicited letter arrived claiming that they could get us a partial refund of the stamp duty from HMRC. I studied it carefully and it became clear that this was a zero risk to me. We had a brief video chat and a few documents were exchanged and today the thick end of £2000 has appeared in my account. It's always nice to get something back from HMRC especially when it's part of this grossly unfair tax!!! The whole process was slick, efficient and communications were spot on. If you are thinking about doing this - just get on with it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
