Making a FiveM server in 2026 is a terrible idea
I've been the owner and operator of a pretty large (740k unique registered users) FiveM server since 2021. The server is well-known to the FiveM community and it's one of the very few handpicked servers that has been in the "Featured Servers" list (pinned) since 2021.
In December 2025, with Cfx.re being under new management and a whole different team than the one that had initially liked and handpicked my server, the server was terminated for no concrete reason (except vague explanations), and it was removed from the pinned "featured servers" list. After an appeal, the termination was reverted, but the server was never listed again as "featured".
I recently sent another request to re-pin my server to the featured list, as my server is still pretty much unique (if we exclude copycats), and it's the most liked and played server of this genre, however they have not replied to my email for almost two months, then they replied with a non-answer:
"We are following up to see if you are still experiencing an issue. If we do not hear back from you within 8 days, we will assume the issue has been resolved and close this support request."
But they didn't even wait those 8 days, exactly ONE DAY later they literally closed the ticket, and I didn't get the chance to reply.
This review is meant for other server owners, and to those who are planning to invest in a FiveM server.
I absolutely discourage any serious dev or team to invest in starting a FiveM server in 2026. It was a good idea in 2020-2022, but right now it's one of the worst possible things you could invest your money in.
They have absolute control and power over your server, from one day to another they are able to absolutely cut it off without ANY advance warning, they will just do it. There's also rumors of certain servers secretly working together with Cfx.re, using the moderation team as their pocket cops, to get rid or reduce the reach of competing servers.
It's a much better idea to simply make your own standalone game instead, now that we have amazing open-source game engines and other awesome resources.
