I have been renting cars for 16 years (usually with europcar)... never had any issues. This time I thought I would try Centauro... . I took a standard package, and as always bought excess damage waiver from my usual provider.
I have arrived at pick up desk... and thats when all started.. , the agent was extremely angry because i did not buy the extra cover from them, he was very aggressive.. saying that if I dont buy it I will pay for the damages.. etc...he locked more than £1000from my card as a deposit! I politely explained that I got this insurance so do not want to buy with them.. he was very unhappy, rude and left me with total distress.. I had a feeling this is only the beginning of the story and I wasn't wrong. On the return, I still had a half of the tank of petrol( he blocked £66 on my credit card on pick up - which is fine, but did not refunded the difference after drop off).
Just incase I took a video and photographs of the car on the pick up.
On return: I again took video and photographs, after that the agent walks out of the office, turns on light on his phone and goes straight to the left side of the car under the front bumper and says .. here is a damage.. you have no insurance so I will charge you 225 euros!! I asked if he is joking... he said: " no". I said to him this is damage is all ready marked on the list.... and he says its not.. its a different damage .. ! and he will not discuss it.... . went back to the office. Few more cars has been drop off.. while we were there and he only took keys back from the drivers, checked the petrol level and did not even looked at the cars.... . I could not believe what was going on! Absolute scam! Never experienced that before! I have not been given any paper to sign to agree/disagree to the damage... which I clearly did not caused .
I have followed the advice of my bank to email Centauro main office to explain the situation... .
Today I checked my credit card statement and I saw that the difference in the fuel charge was not refunded and I had a charge of £160 ... not sure what for and now waiting whats the next surprise will be!
No communication from Cantauro. I will claim my money back from my insurer.. but it is so unfair on them too. Centauro is not making themselves any favors by treating people that way!
Huge shame.. as I'm moving to Javea in Spain.. and before I buy a car I will need a regular rental..., but obviously I will never use Centauro again and will not recommend it to anyone!
