Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 103 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers frequently reported that support teams were unhelpful, often dismissing valid evidence and closing cases prematurely without providing any proper explanation. People also mentioned that communication was severely lacking, leaving them feeling completely ignored while navigating an entire procedure that felt deeply frustrating and entirely biased against consumers. Some reviewers were happy with the clear processes, helpful guidance, and efficient communication provided during their disputes. A few other people also felt that the dedicated staff handled their complex cases very professionally, resulting in fair outcomes and highly satisfactory final resolutions.

Avoid using this company at all costs. Totally unprofessional and do not understand British law. They've been dealing with a case with pop Telecom and me and according to them it's okay for pop Telecom to increase my bill by 48% and ignore all contact with me so they would not give me a refund zen pop Telecom cut my Wi-fi service and according to them that is fine there will be more to come after I've finished in court I will give you the proper judges decision

Dear Simon,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

I am sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the outcome of your case. As you have indicated, if customers are not satisfied with the Decision issued by the Adjudicator, they are free to reject it and use an alternative forum, such as small claims court, to continue their complaint.

Thank you,

Forget CEDR. Go straight to the Small Claims Court!

CEDR are flawed and even the mobile networks know this. Hence why everyone accept Vodafone use the Communication Ombudsman now as there ARD. CEDR Agent has made numerous mistakes in my case, they have agreed and the evidence all points to this. However as a ARD ironically they have no process in place to resolve mistakes made by their agents. I am now out of pocket because of their mistakes. These ARD's are not regulated, they can get away with whatever they want, does that sound like a fair impartial service to you!

Dear PH,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry to hear that you did not get the outcome you were hoping for.

You are correct in saying that once an adjudicator has issued a final decision, this is not open to review or appeal. This process is in place to maintain the adjudicator’s independence and impartiality.

CEDR is subject to oversight and approval by UK Government appointed Competent Authorities namely the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Gambling Commission and Ofcom.

PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!

I first dealt with CEDR back in the July of 2022.

Long story short, my father in law who has dementia, was sold a Sky package. He was told at the time for him to have TV and Telephone service, it would be cheaper to get basic as well as this was actually cheaper than the two separately.

Fast forward, Sky billed him as agreed, but then decided to add Superfast Broadband at an additional £30 a month. When I complained to Sky, they refused to amend the bill, and subsequently went directly to a man they knew had dementia and gave him £200. Far less than owed.

After getting CEDR involved, they found nothing wrong with this arrangement. They also provided me with the wrong dates to submit my final appeal. When I did, they said they had made their final decision and my entire defence these “comments would not have amended the published decision in any way.”

I have found out today that he has still be paying for Superfast Broadband even though he has never received any equipment from Sky!

Way to go CEDR 🙌🏻 unsurprisingly you are funded by the likes of Sky! Now I will actually take it to court to get some real unbiased resolution.

*I would urge anyone not to consider using you absolute monkeys! Hence your atrocious score here!!*

Almost every dispute resolution service in the UK is funded entirely by the companies that subscribe to them, either voluntarily or because it is a legal requirement to do so. What can I say…

What can I say. CEDR were given their allotted timeframe to respond (20 days) on the last day they sent a note stating they can not do anything without my authorisation to allow my husband to go ahead with the claim on my behalf. In my opinion it was an excuse to gain a further 7 days only to come back and tell us that we have no solid evidence. This issue was in relation to our conservatory which is 8 years old. We moved in, in May and the rain comes in through the roof. They had the audacity to suggest that as they could see no water damage to the floor we must not be telling the truth. The floor is stone!!! Despite the hard photo evidence and multiple quotes from legitimate contractors stating the conservatory was not fit for purpose. They close the complaint. Even taking an additional unnecessary 6 days. I am completely outraged by the whole situation. I know also they won’t even read this. They will only respond to the 5 star reviews but it’s good to get it off my chest.

Dear Laura,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with how your case has been handled. This is certainly not the experience we aim for.

Timeframes are set out in the scheme rules and CEDR does everything possible to ensure that these timelines are met. There are occasions where timeframes may need to be extended and the scheme rules allow for this. In the example you have provided, it appears that a response was provided within the timeframe that was specified.

Having looked at your case, I can see that it has not been closed by CEDR. The adjudicator appointed to this matter has issued a proposed decision and both parties have until 20th December 2024 to comment on this before a Final Decision is issued. If you require any further clarification on this stage of the process, please do reach out to the team and they will be happy to assist.

We welcome feedback from those who have used our services and do our best to reply to every review that is left, regardless of the score that has been provided.

Our independence and professionalism are subject to oversight and approval by UK Government appointed Competent Authorities namely the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Gambling Commission and Ofcom.

We thoroughly review all cases that are accepted on to our schemes. Before making a final decision, our Adjudicators weigh up the evidence provided by both sides and make a decision based on the facts and any applicable laws and scheme rules. In your case, I can see that a 4 page Decision was issued by the Adjudicator outlining the reasons for the outcome.

Not every complaint that is submitted to us will result in the outcome that the customer would have liked. However, the majority of customers who bring their complaints to CEDR do have a favourable outcome. We are required to publish data relating to these outcomes. Impressed with simplicity of process

Although it took time & patience for CEDR to resolve BA intransigence over an admittedly complex delay compensation - they finally achieved full compensation.
The whole process was far less stressful than a Court claim, so I judge it as preferable process - plus far more economical !

Terrible at resolving disputes

What a complete waste of time. They do nothing but delay reaching a decision and bend over backwards to support the airline company even when its clear that compensation is due as a result of cancelled/delayed flights. Dont bother with these charlatans and take the airline to the small claims court instead for a swifter resolution and getting the compensation you are due.

Dear M Asghar,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

I am unable to identify your case from the information contained in your review and so cannot comment on the individual circumstances of your case. However, I can confirm that our Aviation scheme is currently managing a higher volume of cases and a number of the timelines outlined in the Scheme Rules have had to be temporarily extended. We have highlighted this on our website and also inform customers of this once their case has been received. Rest assured that all cases will still be completed within 90 days of receipt of the complete case file, which is what is required under The Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Competent Authorities and Information) Regulations 2015.

CEDR is not fit for purpose, let's get it shut down!

I have already documented my own experiences with CEDR on Trustpilot, reading the other negative reviews from claimants there is a clear pattern. CEDR all too often ignore evidence submitted by a claimant and side with the defendant. The defendants are companies and organizations who fund CEDR so it wouldn't be in CEDR's financial interest to uphold too many claims. Furthermore CEDR provides adjudication training, another source of income, and course trainees go on to act as adjudicators. Although they are not directly employed by CEDR they are clearly stakeholders so it is telling that the vast majority of five star Trustpilot reviews are from course attendees, not claimants. According to Trustpilot CEDR actively seeks reviews which supposedly adds credence to the overall score. They never asked me to leave a review, I would wager that the only people they do ask are the trainee arbitrators as they know these will be glowing reviews.
Did you know that CEDR is a registered charity? That means they avoid paying tax. Their accounts are readily available, they have 88 employees and 9 trustees. In year ending 31/3/23 their total income was £10,131,000. Eleven employees received benefits over £60,000, of those 2 received over £100,000, 1 over £140,000, 2 over £150,000 and one hit the jackpot receiving between £200,000 and £250,000. Of the trustees, one or more are directors of subsidiaries and one or more receive payments or benefits from the charity for services provided.
If you are claimant and have concerns about the outcome of your case and about the way CEDR is run you can complain to the Charity Commission and to the Trading Standards Institute.
Edit 26/11. CEDR are obviously rattled by all the bad reviews from claimants. Looks like they are getting desperate - manipulating the overall rating by getting more trainee adjudicators to leave 5 star reviews (3 in the space of an hour). Trustpilot take note!

A Very Disappointing Service

I would not award 1 star if there was an option.
I bought a brand new house in April 2023 and due to mould, damp and even getting an infestation of plaster beetles after 3 weeks after completing, I was only able to move into the house in April this year. I complained initially to the developer who "as a good will gesture" paid for a heat treatment to be carried out on the house, this was done on 12th July 2023. It did get rid of the infestation, however, it did not get rid of the damp and mould. The developer blamed us for not moving in right away, how could we? the house was full of damp and mould??? Because of the excess damp and awful smell, we had 4 independent specialist reports done on the property all indicating that the house most likely got wet during build and there was excessive mould and damp within the house which was not acceptable. This was true as the cavity wall insulation, on inspection, was soaking wet. The developer refused to help us even after finding the whole of the lounge and dining room wall to be covered in thick black mould. Luckily NHBC took over the complaint and paid for the work to be carried out in February this year after giving the developer a deadline of the 18th December to complete the work required as it was within the first 2 years. The plasterboard was removed in February and we had to dry the cavity wall insulation out before the walls could be reinstated. We had to do this ourselves with funnels and heaters. This took us to April this year when the house was finally fit to live in.
I was advised by NHBC to take my complaint and claim for the expense this had caused me, to CEDR. The developer objected to the complaint but the initial adjudicator at CEDR said that they had no grounds to reject the claim and my claim was within scope. The final adjudicator and final decision maker ruled in favour of the developer and said they do not need to take any further action. I am now in £20000 worth of debt as the house was not fit to live in for the first 12 months and with the added stress and upset caused by the developer blaming us for the issues, how this adjudicator can rule in the developer's favour I and many others, will never know. I am extremely disappointed with their decision and frankly do not agree with it. I am looking further into the situation as I am left in debt and will probably now have to rent the house out or sell to pay off my debt caused by the developer not meeting build standard.
CEDR was my only real hope, because of my debt now, I cannot appoint a solicitor to help me. I have since lodged a complaint with the developer about a different issue and they have just told me to go to NHBC, this is only after 18th months since completion. This is what CEDR would call good practice??? Case:HOME006960

Dear DJ,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the outcome of your complaint.

To succeed in a claim against a Home Builder, the evidence available to the adjudicator must show on the balance of probabilities that the Home Builder has breached one or more of the requirements of the Consumer Code for Home Builders and that, because of this, the Home Buyer is entitled to one or more remedies. If the evidence does not prove both points, the Home Builder will not be directed to provide a remedy to the Home Buyer. After reviewing all of the evidence, the Adjudicator concluded that there had not been any breaches of the code.

We can appreciate that this outcome would have been very disappointing for you, however our adjudicators are required to remain neutral and follow what is set out in the Code.

Thank you,

Absolutely useless

Absolutely useless in a straightforward case of cancelled flights by BA and delayed rebooked flights with Iberia their parent company. Over a year later am still awaiting the compensation I am owed. Iberia simply keep breaching the response deadline they continuously ask CEDR for an extension while they 'await advice from their legal team' and CEDR continuously grant these extensions. At this rate I might get compensated in time for the next Ice age...

Overall very poor

Review of CICAS Services

Overall, my experience with CICAS was very poor. I felt that CICAS lacked transparency regarding time delays and extensions. Despite committing to deadlines, extensions were still granted to both my communications provider and CICAS themselves, which happened in my case on multiple occasions with both parties.

I didn’t feel that CICAS genuinely listened to my concerns. Although I “won” a monetary settlement, I had made it clear to CICAS that my account setup with TalkTalk (my previous provider) was severely flawed. This setup prevented me from accessing any billing information, and I was very clear that I wanted a net zero balance and compensation (thus clearly any early termination fees any other fees TalkTalk choose to apply on the account) — especially as one of my issue had been that the contracted service had never even been installed.

Unfortunately, I still ended up having to contact TalkTalk to settle these fees, in order to be able to discuss them, as CICAS did not explicitly state that these charges would be cleared as part of the settlement. In fact, CICAS advised me that this would be my next step.

This process has felt like a complete waste of time, especially as I spent an additional 10 hours going back and forth with TalkTalk to resolve an account setup that was never done properly. Ultimately, I ended up paying them more than what I received in the settlement due to late fees and other fees TalkTalk applied without transparency!

This experience has been deeply disappointing and frustrating.

Dear Anita,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry to hear that your experience using our CISAS service was not a positive one for you.

Whilst we understand that delays to your case can be frustrating, the CISAS scheme rules do allow for extensions to be granted by both CISAS and the Adjudicator. It is important that each party is given the opportunity to take part in the process fully and on occasion, this will mean that additional time is required. Customers are also able to request extensions of time if they need to.

Settlement offers are provided by the communications provider, rather than by CISAS. CISAS are unable to influence a settlement offer. The customer is of course able to reject an offer and the matter can then be referred to adjudication for an Adjudicator to review and make a Decision.

When reviewing a case, the evidence provided by both sides and the outcome sought from a customer, the Adjudicator may decide to award everything that has been requested, part of what has been requested or make no award at all. The outcome will be dictated by the merits of the claim. In this case, I can see that the Adjudicator awarded you financial compensation, albeit not the amount requested.

Thank you,
The CEDR Management Team.
