Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 142 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the company's service, particularly regarding unexpected charges and the application of payments, which often led to confusion about their balances. People frequently reported issues with promotional offers, finding that interest was charged retroactively if the balance wasn't paid in full by the deadline, sometimes at very high rates. Reviewers also faced problems with their credit limits being decreased unexpectedly, even when making timely payments, which negatively impacted their credit scores. Customer service was a significant point of frustration for many, with reports of unhelpful agents, long wait times, and difficulties communicating with representatives who did not understand English. However, some people were satisfied with the service, finding it helpful for managing medical expenses and appreciating the availability of interest-free payment plans.

Disabled Veteran was Scammed

Put it this way. They said I made a late payment 2 days late back in 2023 while I was in the hospital for over a year with a stage 4 pressure sore. They were charging me interest fees since then. I told them I was in the hospital and recovering and was late. This is the only company that doesn't give you a grace period. Every other company as well as my mortgage, electric, water, and other household stuff as 2 other major credit cards I have a grace period. And since I am a Quadriplegic disabled Veteran in a wheelchair with now stage 4 pressure sore, and on a fixed income, I went from a $2000 dental bill in 2023 to over $5411 now. And they now blocked me out of my account where I have to call it in to make a payment. Which today on January 3rd 2026 was on hold for over 2 hrs with 3 different agents from India. Which I think is a scam. Whatever happened to customer service in America. All these Live agents are rude hang up on you or transfer you to someone else since they don't want to take the time to help you. They will never help you to fix the problem for that 2 days I was late for. And told me I should of paid it on time (even though I was in the hospital and can prove it as well). Please stay away from this company!!!! They are very much a scam company. I just don't understand why this company still exist after many complaints to the BBB has been reported by many victims that have been scammed by this horrible deceitful company!!!! Please be advise and STAY AWAY!!!! And if Vet Hospitals, dental hospitals or other companies tell you they use them cause you can't come up with the funds, just tell them HELL NO I don't want to be scammed

This company is inconsistent

This company is inconsistent, unorganized and sounds like a SCAM!!!! I’ll pay a bill real early and call to make sure I’m good and on time, I’ll check two weeks later and see extra charges on my card, I’ll call them up , and speak to a so called manager, and they tell me, I was charged for insufficient funds, MAKES NO SENSE!!!! Pay as quickly as you CAN, It’s sorry to say how companies like this one takes advantage of who ever gets involved, STAY FAR AWAY FROM CREDIT CARE!!!!!!!!!!

Care Credit charged me $2900 on a $1100…

Care Credit charged me $2900 on a $1100 balance, saying it was interest owed that had been deferred. They said they had sent me notices. They had not. They said it was on my statement; In VERY FINE Print, that I had to search for twice. I understood the interest wasn't deferred but removed. I had been paying off this account. Now I will be taking out a personal loan to pay off and close this account. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CARE CREDIT. THEY ARE VULTURES.

DON’T DO IT! EVEN IT ITS FOR SICK CHILD OR PET!

I was paying the last payment on my account - called because I see $1300 “interest charge”. I thought it was a simple error. Nope! “Oh, you didn’t pay last payment within the 2 yrs time so now you get to pay all your “deferred” interest at once!”.

I’m a nurse and am very very very disappointed in this company!

Can’t believe I recommended CareCredit to patients.

Don’t do it! Borrow from friends, pawn something, OF (lol), ANYTHING!, but do not sign up for this….

I’ve had my CareCredit card for years. Won’t be bothering with them again!

To me they make up charges

To me they make up charges. I paid $5.83 for a item at Walmart, they charge $45.00 for purchase and then $32.00 for Credit Card Security. I never asked for that they automatically added it to my Bill. Their tactics feels like a scam, or Something isn't right with these people. Find another card Don't apply. It decreases your credit score.

Horrible company !!

I have had this credit card for vet expenses and other medical expenses. I owed 14,000 on the card. I went to use it at vet when I got my dog spayed and it would not work. I thought that was odd since I had a 22,000 credit limit. I went online and found out they added $ 12,398.00 back interest to my account and charging 32% interest. So now I owe about $24,000. I called and the lady on the phone was rude and said there was nothing she could do about it. I told her I did not get my statements in mail and I did not know that the 775.00 a month that I had been paying was going toward another balance. I am sick over this. They did not care at all. I have never ever missed a payment. I immediately used my other credit card with 0 percent interest to pay this off. But now I am paying almost $13,000 in back interest I will never ever use this card again. They want you to not see your statements so they can deceive . Terrible card to have. I told my vet what they did and to let all their customers know how deceptive they are. It would of just taken a phone call from them to tell me that I needed to pay off balance. I would of saved $13,000.00.

SCAM LIKELY !!

SCAM LIKELY !!! SYNCHRONY/CARECREDIT - Be cautious with this company. Their representatives provide inconsistent and misleading information that makes customers believe they are being helped when they are not. From my experience, the practices feel confusing, unclear, and designed in a way that makes it difficult for customers to get straightforward answers about their accounts.
In the past, I worked for an e-commerce company with similarly questionable practices, customers were automatically enrolled in subscriptions and only received full refunds after filing formal complaints. Once I saw how wrong that system was, I left.
Based on the lack of transparency and accuracy they will easily take advantage of customers vulnerability.
SYNCHRONY/CARECREDIT customer care will give you inconsistent and misleading information. Supervisors/escalation team is unprofessional - particularly a representative named Valerie, who identified herself at various points as an Account Manager, Supervisor, and Escalations Representative.
I called after noticing my automatic payment of $100, only deducting $50. The first agent I spoke with was unable to assist, so I requested a supervisor. I was transferred to Valerie, who confirmed that my auto-pay was originally set up at $100 but then stated that it had been changed as of the same day. When I asked for clarification regarding how or why this change occurred, she told me that I would need to subpoena the records if I wanted that information.
Throughout our conversation, Valerie was dismissive and unhelpful. Her attitude was combative, and instead of trying to resolve my concern, she appeared more focused on arguing. When I asked for a supervisor, she first stated she was the highest-level authority available, while I was still in mid sentence, Valerie abruptly disconnected the call.
I called back and was escalated to Kevin, who identified himself as a manager. After explaining the situation, I was given a balance payoff amount and made to believe, similar to the previous agents I had spoken to, that if I made a lump-sum payment by a certain date, the account would be considered resolved. I was told that as long as payment was received by one of several dates provided (Dec. 12, Dec. 13, or Dec. 14), and I called back to confirm the payment was made, my account would no longer have a balance. This information appears to have been inaccurate and misleading.
Eventually, I reached an actual manager who, within five minutes, was able to explain everything clearly, accurately, and professionally. She demonstrated patience and provided accurate information without being misleading. This interaction highlighted the contrast between proper customer service and the experiences I had earlier in the day.
Stay away from SYNCHRONY/CARECREDIT, THEY ARE A SCAM COMPANY!!!

Predatory Company!

Tanked my credit score - had a 760 score and immediately went down to 653 after getting this card. They also charge a late fee for paying early. Yep you read that right! I paid $1000 on the 4th of the month for the first payment due towards my account. They told me since it was before the 5th of the month it was too early and therefore I got a $30 late fee. What!? I had not had the account before November 1st, so how could it be for the previous month? It’s so hard to connect with a real person on their website and their customer service agents are passive aggressive and rude. Please do not use this company - a normal credit card from your bank is much better and probably has a much lower interest rate!

Decrease in limit

I have had Care Credit for over 10 years. Never late on a payment. Always paid over the minimum. Gradually made my way to $11,000.00 credit limit over time. I log on today and see my limit was deceased to $1,000.00. They say it was due to non-use and that I should have received a letter. I did not receive a letter or warning. Them cutting the limit so drastically will destroy my credit score. Thinking about closing this card and applying to another company.

CARE CREDIT BIRTHDAY WISHES -- WORTHLESS

Just found out Care Credit socked an extra $1500 on a $2500 bill. The catch. We were never advised that we had a promotional balance. We pay online so we never got an actual statement. No one sent anything to advise the expiration of a promotion. They just upped the bill and payment and then ask us if we needed help keeping up with the larger payment. What a terrible company. These sap suckers should look at the Golden Rule when writing their fine printed policies. I will tell everyone about Care Credit... BTW, they didn't forget to wish my wife a Happy Birthday on the statement I found on their website. Birthday wishes along with an added $1500 con job are worth nothing.

I don't know where to begin...

I don't know where to begin! I had opened an account as a recommendation by my surgeons office to pay help pay down payment. They gave me $3500. limit. But I only Utilized $2000. I made on time monthly payments that were 3x minimum payment. I was almost done, then they hit me with a almost $2000 expired promotional fee. Shout out to Rocket money for catching it! I asked them to show me the proof of this promotional that they claim I was made aware of. They could not. They just extended a 30 day grace period instead to pay off the what was left which somehow jumped from $800 to $1900, again with no real explanation. They just kept sending me from Rep to Rep. Most Rude and some hung up on me. I finally called them from my bank, with bank manager on the phone because they were claiming that the account I was making payments from wasn't valid. Even though on my statements it showed being withdrawn. The Bank manager said that they would be reporting them for fraud and then that's when they offered to waive to some fees. We settled on paying the owed amount and closing it. Only to find out a few days later that they kept it open and charged me yet another fee. Mind you all this a less than a month. I called yet again, and the Rep had every audacity to say that they were being more than gracious to me for having waived fees previously. I reminded her that I no longer wanted this account open nor desire to do anymore business with them. I, again, requested a letter be sent to my email of my account closure or I was going to take them to court. She said she was not able to do that. That I could view it on the app. I said "on the app, you guys keep closing me out and have to call it to get it reset." I reminded her that all calls are recorded and it will prove their inconsistencies of misinformation and I that have witnesses and bank statements to prove it. She hung up on me and sent me a letter. I updated my bank on this most recent occurrence and they said they were going to report them. Like others, my credit score dropped but so did my blood pressure. Not worth it!

Worst credit card ever through…

Worst credit card ever through Sychrony. I had a 2000.00 credit limit for over 2 years. I always paid my bill each month early. Finally the interest they were charging me and the games they were playing with their promotional purchases were killing me. So I took out a small personal loan to pay off my credit cards and I paid the balance on this one of 687.00. Once it posted my credit limit dropped to 690.00. Nice way to treat a customer who always pays early. This also happened with another sychrony bank credit card I had with Belk Department store. 500.00 credit limit paid early every month never carried a huge balance. When it did get up to about 300.00 I paid it off and they dropped my credit limit down to 140.00. Stay away from anything that comes out of this bank. They also even charged me 6.24 for purchases made after I paid in full. They can stick this card where the sun don’t shine.

Incompetence and stupidity.

Yesterday 11.19.2025. I called care credit simply to get a card for my wife who is an authorized user on my account. Instead an incompetent agent closed my account. My wife had a dental appointment scheduled that same day. I never reported my card lost or stolen. Why would I order a card and then close my account.

0 out of 10 CareCredit is a JOKE!

0 out of 10 CareCredit is absolutely worthless.
I’m beyond pisssed with CareCredit after my latest experience. We make well over six figures, have multiple established credit cards, pay our bills, and needed a simple $1,500 approval to take our dog to the vet. That’s it. And somehow these people can’t manage to approve even a basic limit like that.
The whole “application process” is a 10 second joke, a couple of vague questions and an instant decision that tells you nothing about why you’re denied or how they supposedly evaluate your creditworthiness. It feels shallow, judgmental, and completely disconnected from real financial responsibility. You absolutely cannot judge someone’s entire financial picture from a bare-bones questionnaire, yet that’s exactly what they do.
In my opinion, CareCredit comes across as a money grubbing, out-of-touch service that offers nothing but frustration when you actually need help. When a company that advertises itself as a lifeline in emergencies can’t approve a straightforward, average limit for someone with solid income and credit history, it says everything about their priorities.
If you value your time, your sanity, or your pets’ well-being, stay far away from CareCredit. They failed when it mattered, and we won’t forget it.

Useless customer service

After spending hours today talking to FIVE agents (4 on the phone and 1 in live chat), after verifying myself repeatedly, after jumping through every hoop, I’m just told that they can’t give out the info that I’m calling for. Wasted the majority of my day on this. I was told they recently changed some policies. CHANGE IT BACK. And please train your people better. Ton of conflicting information and still zero resolution. Thanks a lot for spiking my blood pressure and adding to the health issues that I was trying to use the card for.
