Super responsive and was able to…

Super responsive and was able to deliver my new BuxomBox to me in time for an upcoming trip.

Bike (and box) has been through multiple connections and inter country transits without a scratch.

High quality and protects a bike like none other.

Should be the industry standard for bike travel.

The Rolls Royce of bike boxes

The Rolls Royce of bike boxes, guaranteed to generate bike box envy amongst plastic and soft bag users. Compared to previous Bike Box Alan, offers better protection and minimal bike disassembly (eg seat post & pedals off; handlebars stay on frame, brake discs & cassettes stay on wheels). I've bought adapters so can handle Thru Axels and QRs. I have the larger Ventoux (134x87x36) which is well within BA's max (190x95x65), though one short flight on an Italian plane did cause consternation until they decided it would fit in their hold. So no issues, just one to watch. 1 year into ownership, multiple flights later and no regrets, just a few dents and scratches which make it look more authentic!

Can't be happier! 5min to pack, solid and looks sick!

I bought the Ventoux Box and can't be happier! It takes 5 minutes to pack and the box is supper solid! I had a cheaper box before and it was super annoying to remove handlebar, etc. With the Ventoux I basically just remove the wheels, lower the seat and I'm good to go. Bonus points because the box looks sick! best box in the market.

Blindingly obvious design flaws.

It amazes me that no one has mentioned the obvious flaws with these boxes in all the reviews I’ve read. So I’ve decided to review it myself. I’ll start off by saying that if I had the time before my trip to return this box and buy something else I would have.

The first most glaringly obvious flaw is the hundreds of razor sharp rivets on the inside of the box just waiting to either scratch your beloved bike, or your hands while packing your beloved bike! While placing your bike in the box, the razor sharp rivets turn this seemingly simple task into a game of operation (like the children’s game). Only instead of hearing a loud buzz when you touch the sides, the penalty here is a scratched derailleur, frame, fork, or brake calliper. These rivets should be smoothed off, or coated with some kind of rubber compound (just like they do in the real world). I’ve actually coated these myself with a soft rubber compound to stop the box from attacking my bike while packing. I shouldn’t have to do this when paying such a large amount of money!!!! I’m amazed no one else has noticed this.

Secondly the wheels bags create a significant problem. They have a hole in for the box’s spreader/support bar to fit through. The bar fits through the bags, through your wheels, through your frame, and locates into the inner sides of the box. This gives the box strength, and stops it from being crushed. All well and good. Only problem is a customs official has no idea that the spreader bar is there as the bags obscure it (they’re not see through) and they’re not bike experts. So when they yank the wheels/bags out of the box to have a look around they can cause all kinds of damage to your spokes and or frame. Customs officials do look inside bike boxes. This is common when going to the USA. Luckily I spotted this flaw and decided not to use the wheel bags. My bike box was searched both times I went to the USA when I wasn’t there to observe. I know this as they left me a note. If you decide to use the wheel bags, the only thing stopping your wheels rattling around inside the box is the spreader bar hitting your spokes! I certainly don’t fancy that. Also I’m not convinced that the bags wouldn't scuff your frame (like bike bags) do with any sort of movement. I can’t confirm this as I’ve never used them for the above reasons.

Thirdly, despite phoning Buxom box and telling them exactly what bike I had and the dimensions of it, the box is too small!!! After hours of trying to pack my bike in such a way that no part of it wasn’t rubbing on the inside of the box and failing, I phoned Buxom box to see where I was going wrong. It was then that they informed me I need to go and buy some pipe lagging to wrap that around the brake/gear levers as they do rub on the inside of the box!!!!!! If they're aware of this why not make the box bigger, or included some sort of protection???? So after spending £1000 on a box to protect my bike during travel, I had to then go out and buy protection to protect my bike from the thing that I bought to protect it! That’s on top of all the razor sharp rivets I had to make safe! Crazy!

After another phone call they decided to tell me about the chain tensioning device that didn’t come with the box, and wasn’t mentioned on their website at the time if purchase either. With no tension on the chain/derailleur due to the rear wheel being removed, the rear derailleur was touching one end of the box. Not good for obvious reasons. I thought I was going to have to remove it, so I phoned them (again) to make sure I wasn’t missing something. It turns out I was missing something, the chain tension device that they were keeping secret. Hopefully they now include this with every purchase.

Having said all of that this box could be excellent if they ironed out these flaws (I’ve owned this box for a while now so maybe they have). However, these flaws should already be ironed out when you’re paying such a large amount of money. I’m amazed that in all the bike media reviews I’ve seen on these boxes none of the above is mentioned. Especially the razor sharp rivets, it’s blindingly obvious. In this day and age of health and safety I can’t believe it’s gone un noticed.

So to sum up in my opinion this bike box is not worth the money until they sort out all of the above.

Hi Guy. Thanks for the feedback. Here’s a few points on what you mentioned that we feel would be good to raise in response, just for clarity’s sake.

We don’t use sharp or exposed rivets - ours are closed-end and finish flush, the same spec used in aerospace applications. If a bike is contacting them, it hasn’t been packed using the internal supports as intended, or the actual act of inserting the bike into the box was done in unstable conditions. Even so, the rivets are as flush to the panels as practically possible.

Our wheel bags are designed to accommodate the spreader bar and prevent movement. In our experience, customs officials typically remove the lid rather than pull components out, but we understand not every inspection is the same. However, we can’t say we’ve had any issues raised by other customers in regards this.

Pipe lagging or extra padding isn’t normally needed, but in an email to us at the time of purchase you expressed particular concern for your bike during transport, so we simply suggested it as an extra layer. The same goes for the chain tensioner - it’s an optional item able to be added at the time of purchase (selectable when speccing your box, and useful for bikes with 1x drivetrains or large jockey wheels) and was sent out to you at no extra charge after it had been left off your initial order.

It's extremely rare that we receive negative reviews or unhappy feedback from customers, so we hope this helps clear things up. We’re always happy to guide customers through packing if needed, and we’re confident in the thousands of successful trips our boxes complete every year.

Carlsberg doesn't do bike boxes, but if it did they still souldn't be as good as a Buxumbox

Despite the best efforts of various baggage handlers, our Buxumboxes have done exactly what we bought them for - kept our bikes intact when we travel! The boxes are light, well-designed and most importantly tough. I am also impressed that the company has changed the designs of what might have been weak points, such as the wheels, in response to feedback.

No more bike travel works

After my soft-cover Scicon bike box was damaged by airlines, I decided to invest in a buxumbox for my gravel and road bike. They were easy to work with as I ordered from the USA and the box was surprisingly light, given the protection factor. Now that many airports are moving to automated security systems for even big boxes, this new box gives me calm that personnel can throw the box around so that it fits in their machines -- and I'll have a safe bike.

Peace of mind when travelling

I've been transporting my bike in a Buxumbox since 2019 and the quality of the box gives me confidence every time I travel. I'm a professional rider and have been to races all over the world, using my box for road, gravel and also a TT bike.
I've recently upgraded my box from the Tourmalet to a Ventoux and Buxum were incredible to deal with from start to finish. The customer service and communication were both exceptional and I'm thrilled with the finished product.
