Depends on the day of the week you shop
If you visit B&Q on a weekend you get the young uninterested group who have better things to do with their time than answer your questions! But our local store in Abingdon has few secret weapons, I must catch his name but he is a retired gentleman, always approachable and always unfailingly polite and helpful.
Avoid
Poor quality and expensive, staff are always very helpful. Use Jewsons.
Non existant customer service
Brought 3 rolls of wallpaper online using click and collect at the Bournemouth Castle Point store
Went to collect it at the click and collect desk located down stairs, very nice, very polite young lady told me that as it had been there for longer than the stated 14 days it had been returned to stock
She phoned upstairs to speak to a manager who said that as I hadn't yet been refunded I could pick up 3 rolls from stock ,take them to the refund desk who would be informed and that they would give me a receipt
I wandered around and finally found the item collected them and took them to the refund desk as instructed, before I had a chance to say anything other than "hello" the stroppy caisher said " I know why your here, you have to repurchase those items first then I will take your details and pass them onto the online services who will sort out the refund which will take up to 10 days"
When I tried to explain that unfortunately that wouldn't be possible as I didn't bring my credit card with me so was unable to repurchase, she slapped a scrape of paper on the desk tutted very loudly and dramatically wrote down my order number and said she would get in touch with online services the next day , I asked if she wanted my name etc again rolling eyes dramatic sighs and a very offensive and off hand reply offers " well IF you ordered online they already have them WON'T they, she then waved me away ushered the next customer forward and ignored me
I have tried to ring the store ( 21 times in 3hrs) no answer, customer services went through all options ( all our advisors are busy your call is important to us so please hold BLAH BLAH BLAH) was kin hold for 38 minutes the first time and an amazingly dreadful 51 minutes the second time
I have emailed the store and customer services asking them to contact me, still nothing.
I have ordered wallpaper from another supplier and have no faith I will ever get my refund from B&Q
The website makes it really easy to spend with them but do so at your own risk as they have no customer service skills at all and in fact treat customers as an unwanted nuisance
Poor collection service
I ordered x4 Internal doors on the 26th March. Very excited because I thought B&Q were a trust worthy company. A few days later I had to cancel x2 doors because we decided to have an open plan instead. I called to get it cancelled before it got despatched but the gentleman on the other line said it was to late and that drivers would take them on the day of delivery 30th March. The day of delivery the drivers said they cannot take the doors and I would have to call to arrange a separate collection. I called to arrange this. I got my mum to stay on the first attempt - no show. Second attempt my sister - again no show. 3rd attempt I stayed in and still no show. At this stage I was furious! How can such a company be so unrealisable. All I want is a collection of these two doors. Jack the manager promised me they will collect today (12.4.16) that they will be collected. This would have been the 4th attempt. They lied and said no one was in. I am so furious with B&Q because I asked my mum and sister to stay in all day on all 4 days and no one came. Eventually my partner called through to talk with Jack who has been dealing with this query. Still have two unwanted doors in my hall way. Will not be ordering from this company again. I wanted to buy my bathroom this week but will source elsewhere. Disappointed.
Bad service
Ordered a light told it could be up to 28 Days to arrive. After 35 days called into store, customer services sent me to lighting department they said Customer service have the info, Told customer services could have dealt with it but would see where my order was, guess what my light was at the customer services desk had been for 4 weeks and not one of the staff had thought to call me and let me know it was in, B and Q Huddersfield totally useless
bathroom
i had my bathroom fitted ,by b&q ,, there not what they say,, they promise you a good job , we paid over 5.000 , the guy started another job befor he finished ours.. we were left without a wc for almost 2 days,, and his cilacon job was scruffy and unfinished , im not satisfied,,, we had to put the toilet seat back on after 2 weeks that came off, but i never bothered telling band q as iv complained enough.. the pipe outside was un finished , so they had to send another guy out to fix the problem, and the anoying thing is ,, as long as they got there money they do not care about anyone, you would of thought they would send an inspector out when the job su[pose to be finished to see if any snagging needed to be done.. if this was the council i think they would of took more care,because i know they send inspectors around,, i am very disapointed and wish we never had the job done ,, it was not worth 5,000
B&Q kept my refund for too long
Do not shop at B&Q. I ordered a product on-line but never received. It took approx. 12 weeks and a lot of time and expense to me for B&Q to refund my money which they kept illegally. Their customer services is appalling. I have reported B&Q to trading standings ( I cannot be the only one who had to wait so long for my refund. I suspect many just gave up). I will not shop with this company again, there are plenty of similar retailers with much better customer care. If there was an option for no stars that is what I would have given!
Excellent Customer Service
On visiting my local B&Q today at Aintree to purchase 10 rolls of wallpaper at (£20 each)I asked the first assistant I ordered it from about the price promise but was told I couldn't have it, as I was buying lots the difference came to just over £60! On speaking to a young girl called Cassie working on the returns desk she looked into it but unfortunately she said she couldn't do it! Next day I arrived to pick it up and Cassie came up to me and told me that she had gone through all of the paperwork and I could buy it at the £13.99 a role! She went out of her way to help me, the customer which is something I have never had the good fortune to experience before as I had left the shop convinced that I was paying full price! Well done B&Q for hiring such a curteous and dedicated young lady!
B&Q Home Delivery Service
Ordered an internal door on the 8th January, Web site accepted the order and confirmed they had stock and delivery would be made on the 13th.
On the 11th January I received a call from B&Q informing me the item was out of stock, they apologised and we re-scheduled for the 18th January. This incidentally was the earliest date they could offer.
I took a day off work in order to receive the delivery, the timing of which was between 08:00 and 18:00, by the time 17:00 came there was no sign of the delivery, nor was any contact made by B&Q. I called their Delivery number at 17:10 and spoke to a helpful and apologetic individual who checked and informed me the item was out for delivery, however he would track it and identify where it was and call me back. I specifically asked him to ensure he called me back even if there was a problem, guess what, no call back, and no delivery.
I called them again at 09:10 this morning [19th January], explained the situation to another apologetic employee, and was then kept waiting for 11 minutes whilst she checked with the person I spoke to the previous evening who was apparently on the phone. When she came back she told me that person I spoke to yesterday was not in the office yet, but she had checked with the carrier and the door would be delivered tomorrow.
Conclusion, consistent untruths from B&Q, poor communication and follow up, and 10 days delivery time from placing the order, also the two days holiday lost by me having to remain at home for the delivery.
The staff are quick to apologise, but it has little or no substance, making the whole experience very poor
