I recently finished working on an editorial assignment for Book Writing, and I can confidently say that the entire experience was quite enjoyable. I was regularly informed of any changes in the schedule by the project manager, and editors did a great job of catching any structural issues that I could never have seen myself. While it many be true that the process took more time than I had anticipated due to the editing involved, it was very much worth it.
