Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 112 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people encountered significant issues with customer service, describing it as unhelpful, incompetent, and difficult to reach a human, often experiencing long holds and a lack of follow-through on promises. Customers also reported problems with payments, including unexpected increases, being charged multiple times, and difficulties processing online or additional payments. Furthermore, several consumers received products, such as vehicles, that were not fit for purpose, had recurring faults, or were misdescribed. Conversely, a small portion of people felt the process was quick, easy, and straightforward, appreciating the helpful staff and clear explanations. Some customers found the interest rates affordable and payments manageable, leading to a positive overall experience with the service.

5hitshow !

What an absolute shower !

They won’t accept clearance of contracts unless it’s a debit card ?

Words fail me , even above and beyond that the APR was 12.9% ?

My bad , but the ombudsman has them bang to rights and not before time.

Poor Phone Support and Portal Performance

If you can do things through the portal, and it works, that is great. Don't expect to contact them by phone though if it goes wrong, awful menu experience where "talk to a human" isn't a menu item and the wait time is excessive.

Moved from 2 to 1 star after a non apologetic call with customer services. Made an additional payment in October, they didn't process it but didn't bother to tell me that on the portal, just kept me hanging on the phone for 20 minutes instead when I queried why it wasn't showing up.

Black Horse Finance - Process relatively smooth.

Black Horse Finance very quick and efficient in their credit checks. Very quick in their decision making for approval. Not transparent enough to explain their decision on the APR and what customers need to be aware if they run into issues with the car purchased and finance agreement, i.e.gap insurance etc. Overall process was relatively smooth.

❌❌Do not deal with these people

❌❌Do not deal with these people, They don’t even deserve half a star.❌❌

My entire experience with Black Horse Finance has been a complete nightmare, and I feel it’s important to warn others. This has been going on for 4 to 5 months now and they are still unable to finish this matter

From the start, they failed me. I was sold a faulty car through a dealership, and because Black Horse financed it, they became equally responsible for the vehicle under consumer law. Yet instead of supporting me as a customer, they constantly dragged their feet and left me to fight alone.

The car broke down within days of purchase and continued to suffer serious faults. I reported these issues straight away, but Black Horse did nothing proactive to help. Instead, I was left dealing with contradictory statements and unprofessional behaviour from Volkswagen Romford, who even told me at one point there was “crash data” proving physical damage — only to later deny it. Black Horse allowed this back-and-forth to continue without stepping in properly, showing zero urgency in protecting their customer.

To make matters worse, my case managers Chloe and Danielle were consistently unavailable. I was constantly told they were “at lunch” or “not available” and promised call-backs that never happened. This lack of accountability shows how little they value customers.

On top of everything else, I also need to highlight how unreliable and unprofessional the communication has been within Black Horse Finance. Every time I called, I was told there were no recent notes on my file, as if didn’t even exist. Different people gave me different answers, and there was clearly no proper communication between their own staff or with the third-party companies they were supposed to be working with. This left me repeatedly chasing updates and doing the work they should have been handling.

The car I bought, was supposed to be an energy-efficient electric vehicle, yet on my Wales trip alone I had to pay over £230 just for charging to make a round journey. That is far more than what should have been reasonable, and it proves again how defective the car was from the very start.

When it came to refunding me, the unfairness continued. Even though I was paying my finance in full monthly instalments while waiting for them to resolve matters, they are only refunding me on a daily basis, which means I am still losing money I should never have had to pay in the first place.

To make matters worse, Black Horse dragged out the refund process by mishandling the vehicle collection. They told me the job had been sent to their third-party agent (Anglia), which turned out to be untrue. I had to intervene personally to chase updates between Black Horse, Anglia, and the workshop — doing their job for them — because no one seemed to know where my car even was.

This entire ordeal has caused me enormous stress and financial hardship. I lost my job due to the unreliability of not having a car and the pressure this situation placed on me. I also suffered greatly with my mental health, and Black Horse showed absolutely no care, compassion, or urgency to resolve matters.

Even the so-called resolution has been dragged out and handled poorly. They quibbled over expenses I proved with receipts, they refused to fully acknowledge the impact this has had on my life, and they’ve treated me like an inconvenience instead of a customer.

Finally, Black Horse Finance claim they give “extra support” to vulnerable or mentally unwell customers, but in reality this is just empty words. If they had taken the appropriate measures and treated my case with seriousness from the start, there would have been no need for me to beg for support later. The way they handled this has only made my situation worse.

If you are reading this and ever have problems like mine, I strongly advise you to contact Citizens Advice immediately. They will guide you step by step on what to do and will also pass these matters on to Trading Standards. Do not waste time relying on Black Horse Finance to act in your best interest — they will only delay, deny, and drag the process out while you continue paying.

Avoid. Double check who your financing from

Cinch and Blackhorse are a perfect match for each other.

I had a car from cinch that cost me £5000 in repairs.

I had a finance agreement with Blackhorse. That’s about all I need to say! Loop hole after loop hole.

Avoid both! Made my life hell for 2 years.

Do not bother starting a complaint with Blackhorse

It started when I first notified Blackhorse about the issues with my car and Stoneacre Derby. I was contacted by a very rude man called Alex who never explained to me the process and just wanted to argue with me.

Weeks went past with no communication from them. I called many times to try to get an update and when I did finally get through the complaints team were a waste of time.

Eventually I received a call from Danielle who seemed to be helpful and understanding. She promised me an answer by Monday 1st September. Two weeks later. (obviously not as helpful as I had hoped)

I called many times yesterday and when I did get through I was put on hold and then cut off. I was expecting a call back but this did not happen.

I have now received their decision and they have not upheld my complaint which I am astounded by as the car was sold to me with a breaking system warning light and they have told me the car is still drivable.

I don’t believe they have looked at or even read every point in my complaint and taken the side of the lying dealership with no evidence.

The car was miss described as it said it had Car Play which it does not.

They have sold me a car with worn out brake pads. Then lied to me, telling me they have been replaced by putting their hand under the wheel arch which it is not possible to gauge by doing this, the pads have not been replaced. This has been confirmed to me when a sales person called me trying to sell tyre and brake insurance (the irony). Looked on the system and the pads were not new. Stoneacre head office told me that every car is serviced before it is sold but they have managed to miss/ignore a warning light and not check buttons that do not work or scratches on the door.

I assume they are happy for me to drive around in a car that is potentially a risk to me and other road users?

The final nail is that Blackhorse have promised a resolution by Monday and I am still waiting.
