Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 301 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the customer service, finding it unresponsive, unhelpful, and difficult to reach a resolution, often describing it as having "zero customer service" and staff who "can’t be bothered to help". Reviewers also frequently encountered significant issues with their orders, including prolonged delivery times, lost parcels, and incorrect items, with some waiting weeks for their products to arrive. The delivery service itself was a major point of contention, often described as terrible, unreliable, and expensive, with many blaming the chosen couriers for delays and non-deliveries. Regarding product quality, while some customers praised the comfort and appearance of their purchases, a significant number reported a decline in quality, with items breaking, cracking, or peeling after minimal wear, and issues with sizing being erratic. Conversely, a few other people also felt that the shoes were comfortable, fit well, and appreciated the quality, with some having positive experiences with quick delivery and good customer service for returns.

I already left a review for Evri

I already left a review for Evri, but little did I know that Birkenstock are similarly regarded.
You'd think that because of the brand name, there is no need to check Trustpilot.
Needless to say, I've learned my lesson.

Long story short:
- Parcel couldn't be delivered, didn't find my address, got instructions to place a new order.
- I foolishly put in a new order, this time with a more reliable company.
- 2-3 days later the original parcel is suddenly arriving, turns out it got lost somewhere in the depot?
- I'm doing my utmost to get in touch with Evri and Birkenstock, but none of the absolute robots read any of the messages and just keep saying "Yes the parcel is coming we're sorry beep boop."
- I couldn't refuse the parcel because the Evri driver said, and I quote "Well it could get lost *shrug*".
- I started a return with Birkenstock now.

Don't use this company.
If you really want some Birkenstocks, use a third party seller.
Or probably google some alternatives to whatever product you want to buy.

October 2025 I purchased a pair of black leather Arizona softbed sandals. They are still turning my feet BLACK from the dye on the straps. I have been dealing with this black dye mess for 6 months. I have purchased many pairs of the black sandals before and not one pair ever did this. Customer Service told me this is normal, which it's not, and to wear black socks so the dye won't get on my feet. That was their solution to the problem with my sandals. I will never purchase anything from Birkenstock again. These sandals are excellent until they're not. Don't count on Customer Support for anything. So very disappointed with what I thought was a quality company.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service, and I can see by the reviews that this is the universal experience. Terrible chat bot, dismissive customer service agents, poor response times, they do everything to make it difficult for the customer. Member Vouchers that don’t work. Really poor.

Sharing my rather shocking experience with Birkenstock customer service.

I wanted to share my experience with others. I have procrastinated in doing so, but with sandal season almost here again in Southern Ontario it seems like an apt time to scratch this off my "to-do" list.

In October I purchased the spouse a pair of sandals for my wife. They were CND 270.00. Not inexpensive by any means. She loved them - even into late fall as she loves going barefoot. In the spring, I purchased two more pair for my daughters.

In Sept, on a beautiful summer day, my wife tripped and took a horrible fall on a sidewalk. The cork on the left sandal had completely split/cracked 1/3 across half the shoe. She was bruised badly on her left elbow and knee, but no broken bones. Surely the sandals should have lasted, at the very least, a complete single season? (approx. May to Sept?)
I wrote to the company and asked, at the very minimum, for these sandals replaced. I offered to ship the sandals back for inspection.

The company responded asking for photos. ["To proceed, could you please provide photos of both footbeds and both soles of the sandals, including close-ups of the areas where the cork has split or cracked? Once we receive the photos, we will review them and inform you of the next course of action.']

I provided the photos as requested.

After going to these lengths, the corporation responded, not with an apology, a replacement, or both, but with this text:

"Thank you for writing to Birkenstock Canada.

As each person wears their footwear differently, Birkenstock footwear does not have a specific warranty or guarantee.

Many factors contribute to how long the footwear lasts, such as: how often they are worn, the conditions they are exposed to, the level of shoe care they receive, how they are stored, and the individual walking pattern of the wearer. Some people may get less than one year of wear while others may get two or more.

Unfortunately, your footwear is over 6 months of purchase, this is unfortunately outside of our return policy. Any wear and tear is not considered a product defect.

For this reason we are unable to offer a replacement.

Birkenstock footwear can also be repaired at a footwear repair facility, depending on the extent of the damage. Birkenstock does not offer repairs, and we do not cover the cost of repairs."

Needless to say I was shocked and expressed this to which they did not respond. Needless to say I have not and will never buy another pair of Birkenstocks.

Peeling soles; poor customer service.

I ordered the black leather Utti shoes and really like them: they are comfortable and look good.

However, after less than a week of wear the sole started peeling off. I reported this to Birkenstock and they said I would have to return them and wait while they were examined before receiving a refund. This was frustrating: returning the shoes was obviously an inconvenience, and I was left without work shoes in the meantime.

Birkenstock offered me quite a paltry £5 voucher as an apology. Not very comforting.

Nice shoes though.

Do not trust Birkenstock to stand by their products. They sent me broken sandal and refuse to send me new ones that are actually usable ❌❌❌❌ hugely disappointed at the lack of quality but also the absolute unwillingness of Birkenstock to rectify the situation and send me useable sandals that I paid for.

Oliver Reichart CEO , shameful leadership

I continue to be sent around in circles from Birkenstock’s “lack of customer services department “ and every time I receive a reply . It inevitably states, that it’s, not handles by that particular department. I need to take them back to the store in South Africa, where I purchased them from , although one response said that Birkenstock do not supply South Africa … Google that you idiots! But in any case , regardless of all of the above , and get this. The fact that the due has run from my shoes and as such the colour is now washed out, is evidence and testament to the high quality of natural products that Birkenstock use in their products, and as such this does not constitute a fault or claim. Totally nuts ! Mr Oliver Reichart the CEO, should be ashamed at how this company operates its customer services department and policies.

I would give their customer service a ZERO

I would give their customer service a ZERO rating if I could. I purchased a pair of sandals that lasted 3 months with minimal wear. The strap ripped. When I contacted customer service- I was given the phone numbers for out of state cobblers to get them repaired. I submitted pictures of the rip, the footbeds, and the soles. I received the same canned response as other reviewers on this site. Basically the run around and avoidance of taking responsibility for faulty manufacturing. After paying $150 for a pair of sandals, I will throw them in the trash before I spend a cent to get them repaired. This is ridiculous from a company of this size that prides itself on long lasting, long quality footwear.

Zero Care about quality of product

First time Birkenstock buyer here. LOVED my shoes. After 9 months...only 9 months, the sole/footbed cracked. When I followed up with Birkenstock.com, I was told "... our Product and Management Team has reviewed your photos, and based on the time frame you have had these and the overall condition of the footwear, this does not appear to be a manufacturing defect."

Does this seem normal? The shoes were $155 and after 9 months, the sole cracked.

I would steer clear. I plan on trying an alternative, of which there are now many.

Deceptive shopping policy

Deceptive shopping policy. Order early on a Friday with a shipping policy of 1-2 days for metro areas other than peak periods. The checkout process didn’t indicate it was a peak period but the email confirmation states it is a peak season, on a normal week. No way to contact the organisation and the new expected delivery date is a week after the policy and after I leave the country. Won’t be buying again

Slow shipping and poor customer service

Have over the years probably bought around 10 pairs of Birkenstocks, mostly Arizona and Boston and been happy in the past. Although poor / slow deluvery was already an issue last year. This year, I wanted to stock up on new summer sandals (Arizona), but am still waiting for their arrival. I - stupidly- chose to to pay the extra £9.95 delivery fee for parcelforce, as thought more reliable than evri, however what's not reliable seems to be Birkenstock themselves. All I got, and that was not even promptly, but even a few days after ordering ordering, was an email saying the shoes had shipped and a tracking number. The tracking never got updated and the shoes didn't arrive. I phoned customer services 2 days later who advised that because they had used parcelforce 24, the parcel should be with me that same day and to keep an eye on my tracking. There was nothing they could do from their side. Tracking still hasn't moved and parcelforce haven't even received the parcel yet. Unbelievable in this day and age, they charge premium prices, but then don't stick to their timelines.
Update: emailed customer service who confirmed shoes haven't even left their warehouse yet. That is 7 days after the order date. I requested, that should the shoes ever arrive, at least a refund of the expensive postage, but have got no reply to that yet.

Unacceptable quality and breach of UK Consumer Rights Act

I am writing this to highlight a serious issue with both product quality and customer service regarding Order #2112662034.

I purchased a pair of Boston Shearlings for £160, and in less than 12 months, the metal fixings have already failed. Despite this being a premium product,
Birkenstock’s support team suggested that I pay for my own repair—a clear disregard for the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, which covers manufacturing defects for products that fail within a reasonable timeframe.

To make matters worse:
Support has now stopped replying to my emails.
My previous social media comments highlighting this issue have been removed instead of being addressed.
I am not prepared to pay for a local repair on a faulty item that is less than a year old. I expect a premium brand to stand behind its craftsmanship.

Birkenstock: Please respond to my email immediately and resolve this matter.

UPDATE 22ND MARCH 2026

After spamming comments on Birkenstock's Instagram posts, customer service reached out. In fact, several different people reached out.
This is what they said…

09th May 2026 @13:31
Dear Mr. Davies,

Thank you for your inquiry.

We do apologise for the inconvenience, but we do not have a repair service in the UK.

For legal reasons, we are unfortunately not allowed to recommend a repair service that is not contractually with us connected.

You are welcome to search for yourself with the search terms: Birkenstock, repairs, England on the Internet. Surely you will find a repair service or a good local shoemaker.

A repair through us in Germany for your item is unfortunately uneconomical, as the costs with postage would exceed the new price.

As repair in the UK is not possible, we do kindly ask to return the back to us as the item is faulty.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

09th May 2026 @16:59
Dear Mr. Davies,

Thank you for your feedback on our social media channels.

We regret that this misunderstanding has arisen. It was caused by the fact that we do indeed offer a repair service, which unfortunately does not apply to the UK.

We therefore offer you a free returns service for your order 2112662034, as the broken rivet does not meet our quality standards. Please use the return label attached and enclose a copy of the invoice with a brief note.

Please accept our apology voucher worth 20 GBP as compensation. You can redeem this voucher with your next order at wwwbirkenstock(dot)com

The voucher code is: CS-4scu-IX39-XhyH-AxxH
It is valid until 31 Dec 2026.

Please enter the code in the “Campaign code” field in your shopping cart when you place your order. Then click “Apply” to confirm.

This code can be redeemed once. It cannot be combined with other vouchers or discounts.

Thank you for your understanding. We wish you a pleasant day.

…… I then asked: “what happens when I return them to you?”

To which, they replied….

Dear Mr. Davies,

Thank you for your message.

Once your item has been received, it will be assessed by our team to determine whether the issue is related to a manufacturing defect. If the claim is accepted, the item will be refunded in accordance with our warranty policy.

If the claim is not accepted the item will be returned to you.

Please rest assured that every case is reviewed carefully by our team according to our quality and warranty guidelines.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to let us know.

Which leaves me in the following situation…

My footwear has to be sent to Germany in the hope that the experts determine that the broken fixings are indeed a manufacturing fault. If they deem it to be, I get my money back. If they deem it not to be, I get my broken Birkenstock's back!

Who can I report this to in the UK as it's clearly not following the law around customer protection in the UK.?
