Will Operate Without Legal Approval and Then Not Even Deliver on Promises
On September 17th, my brother created a BillFixers account using my email address (without my knowledge or authorization) in an attempt to lower a bill with Mediacom Cable. Because I do not trust companies like this (or okay the transaction), as soon as I received a welcome email, I reached out to BillFixers via email and asked them to close the account immediately. They stated that they could not do that because "negotiations"had already begun. I told them that was irrelevant as I never okayed nor authorized it, and I didn't want an account with BillFixers.
This kicked off a series of combative emails between myself and the company representative where we both began saying the same thing back and forth. My position, "Close the account. I didn't authorize it, and I don't want it." Their position, "Someone authorized it, and that's enough for them. They negotiated the bill. They weren't closing the account."
This continued until I mentioned that I spoke with my attorney. At that point (September 23rd), the account was closed, but not before charging the card on file for the full amount of a year's worth of services rendered, in spite of the fact that up to this point, not a single month of service had been rendered -- and there was nothing to say that it would be aside from their suggestion that it had.
Now, two months later, just as I had feared and precisely why I don't trust companies like this, and why I was upset that my brother opened the account without my approval, these supposed discounts are already gone. Keep in mind that neither the charges nor the interaction would have been ok if the bill remained lower for a full year, but it most certainly didn't. The "savings" lasted one full month before reverting back to where it was prior, after the company had charged for 12 months of "service."
Their claim is that they lowered the bill $330 at a 50/50 split. In truth, $30 in total was "saved" with BillFixers at a total charge of $165.
